Chapter 165 Old Tale

After dinner, Lexus headed to the castle on foot, and later, Aion and Artemisia went flying. They landed in front of the entrance of the building, and Lexus quickly opened it for them. There were few guards around, so people really wanted to keep that as hidden as possible from the others. Aion felt that things still could be more secretive, though.

Much to Aion's surprise, they were guided to the library of the castle. It was a weird place to have a meeting, and yet, the new king, Sauros, Seris, and a royal guard were there. Only seven people would participate in the meeting, that wasn't a high number of them, but a secret between them could already be considered information.

"Thank you for coming so soon," Sauros said. "And I am sorry for calling you two without telling much more. We couldn't risk sending a message using a raven. It was too dangerous."

"As long as this meeting doesn't show itself to be a total waste of time, I won't mind," Aion said.

"First of all… one gift to make my brother's debt be paid," Seris said and then passed a silver bracelet to Aion's mother. "Since you are constantly worried about her safety, we decided to give you that. It is an old relic that can repel physical, magical attacks, and negative effects."

Aion couldn't see a gem, and while the bracelet didn't have much mana in it, it increased a lot after Artemisia was equipped. Her mana was being drained, but not at the same rate as the bracelet was gathering mana. It seemed like a really old but powerful relic.

"Thank you very much. I will give you something very valuable in the future as well," Artemisia said.

"No need. This is to repay a debt," Seris said.

"Oh no, please, I insist," Artemisia said while smiling.

Aion sighed. He could imagine that his mother was thinking of giving him a present… She really wanted a grandchild as soon as possible.

"Let's start with the real topic for why we are here," Vangel said. "I have a feeling that this will take a while, after all."

"Certainly, Your Majesty," Sauros said. "Before telling the reason for our visit, I would like to explain a few things. The specifics have been lost in time, but our family is direct descendants of the god that saved the world in the past, and we have been doing the same as them for generations. We make sure that no one is able to perform anything related to time and space magic. While the main path to perform it has been sealed, there are still other ways, and our mission is to stop everyone from using it since it can damage the seal that the god created a long time ago."

"Is it true that the god suddenly vanished one day?" Vangel asked.

"Yes, we don't know why though," Sauros replied. "Our main theory is that he decided to stop others beyond the sky from using the same type of magic."

"Beyond the sky…" Lexus said while frowning.

"It may sound ridiculous, but we have proof that people beyond the sky came to this world. We even use to this day some of their technology," Sauros said. "The most advanced magic relics are things created by those visitors…"

Sauros didn't mention if they came in peace or not… the other thing about them forgetting the specifics as to why their mission was that. That sounded like bullshit… if they forget such a thing, they should have stopped with the mission a long time ago as well. Still, that was a good sign that they weren't completely stupid.

"Back to the topic, aside from us, there was another family that was close to the goddess," Sauros said. "Their descendants eventually founded the Sauros kingdom. Those two families have been using the techniques that they have received from the god and goddess for many years. That is why our people are born with the power to use certain types of magic much better than others, and we have our own style. You can call it a mutation that took over our bodies after generations of constant use of those types of magic. That being said, the Mileris royal family is even more special. After living for many years, the goddess decided to live a normal life again and abandoned her powers. The reasons are unknown, but she became a human again and lived like one, and even had a family. Her kids are the Mileris royal family. While she sealed her powers, her descendants still inherited her potential. Thus they prospered and eventually became the largest kingdom in this world until a few years ago."

To think that such a story was true… Aion wondered if he existed in that world because of the lineage of his mother. Usually, in that kind of story, a goddess or god would make someone reincarnate or give them powers straight away to save the world. Aion's lineage on both sides could be considered a cheat, but the world never needed to be saved. It was saved from the greed and insolence of his grandfather even before he was born. He also didn't meet the god or the goddess, so something was off.

"Some people believe that the goddess will return if enough blood of her descendants is spilled, but that isn't true," Sauros said. "She died of old age, and while she had the means to become immortal, she decided not to do so…"

"Why?" Vangel asked.

Vangel sure was interested in that topic, to the point that Aion couldn't help but frown. Aion also was a bit surprised. If they had the chance, most people would choose not to die… perhaps they would change their mind a thousand years later, after seeing all of their family and friends gone, but… Aion understood why she did that.

"She lost everyone, both of them lost everyone…" Sauros said.
