Chapter 101 Lineage

"It seems I showed up at one hell of a time," Aion thought.

The pirates arrived and headed to the slave market. Those who tried to run with slaves were attacked by them with Water Arrows… Aion didn't think that it was magic since all of them were used in the same way. He assumed that it was an inherited mutation trait… still, it seemed like pirates were using magic, so it was indeed a weird show to see.

"The arrows are… easily piercing the bodies," Aion thought. "The pirates don't look different from humans, though. I guess their mutation affected their spirits and mana."

A lot of guards began to come from the city, armed with rapid-fire crossbows. That was a weird weapon to have all the time. Unless they are often attacked by pirates.

Aion approached a bit and noticed that the slaves weren't in a terrible physical condition, so he concluded that they had been captured pretty recently and the pirates were their friends since they weren't targeted and jumped to the ships without hesitation.

"I can't assume everything… they might be pirates as well," Aion thought.

In any case, Aion shouldn't join such a fierce fight like that. While looking the most suspicious of the parties, he certainly would become the target of all of them. Instead of that, he just observed until he ran out of mana and then hid on a random hill and watched things from afar.

The fight lasted for a while, and both sides fought like madmen. A lot of people died, but none of them hesitated. Aion wondered why he had never heard or read about pirates… while fighting like that, they were bound to be famous.

The slave market had around fifty slaves, and the pirates lost at least half of that, but they kept going until the guards of the port town began to retreat without any other choice. While they were a bit different, Aion thought that they were similar to Vikings… magic Vikings.

"Anyway… it looks like I wasted my time here, but this knowledge might be useful in the future," Aion thought.

Aion could rest for a while, but he decided to catch up to the groups and make sure that they would be fine. Even now, it didn't look like the death knight of the heavy fists didn't suffer any damage, but there were other things that Aion had to consider, like pursuers that only wanted to know where the slaves were heading.

Since he focused only on flying, when night came, Aion found Sauros' group resting. They were near the border and were hiding behind some hills. While it was cold, they knew that using a bonfire would be too dangerous.

On the morning of the next day, Aion found the first group already on his territory and only twenty kilometers away from his town. It seemed like a bit too soon to assume that the mission had been a success, but Aion was too tired to care otherwise.

"I guess I will make Caelis watch the border, just in case…" Aion thought. "In any case, I used a lot of mana, but the class barely leveled up…"

It looked like leveling up the classes now with training alone will be a lot harder… unless Aion uses the skills that are related to the classes equipped. With those thoughts in mind, Aion got home and confirmed that nothing had changed during those three days…

"You are already back…" Artemisia said, visibly surprised. "I am relieved to see that you are fine, only tired. Did everything go accordingly to your plans?"

Aion explained what had happened to his mother. The part where he met the gray-haired man and the pirates sure interested her. While she wanted to talk more about them, she decided to let Aion rest first. Aion could do a lot, but he was just eleven… a growing child still needs his sleeping hours.

Aion woke up with the thought that he had to make his death knights disappear. His mana was still unaltered, so they didn't fight. At that point in time, the former slaves had reached his territory as well… the last thing that he needed was for them to be seen with his death knights.

After a couple of hours, Aion received the report that some strange individuals had been found. So, Aion sent Jairo and the guards to bring them to the town. Heading there and talking with them himself would look suspicious.

"Man… this sure is a pain," Aion thought. "I can see why some protagonists of stories go nuts and decide to solve every single thing with violence… while they make enemies left and right, it is a little better than worrying about every single detail."

If Aion weren't an adult and he didn't have to worry about the life of his mother for so long, he probably would have taken such a path as well. Regardless, after a couple of hours, Aion received the word that the first group had arrived.

"It is a small group, but I suppose that slave traders wouldn't keep them for so long…" Artemisia said while she watched things from the window of the office. "Back to what we were talking about earlier… It seems that the gray-haired man is from a family that has a history like mine. He is one of the leaders of a family of rulers that have been forgotten over the years…"
