CH 20

The assassin and I walk hand in hand under the starlit night. We walk along the dark, soundless road, relying on the dim streetlights.

“If there weren’t so many people around, it would be like we were the only two people left in the world.”

“If Sagami and I were the only people in the world, I would take my life without hesitation. How could you say something so embarrassing so easily?”

Says the assassin, lightly kicking a stone off the ground.

“Of course I’d be excited if I could walk on such a beautiful road with the person I love.”

“S-someone you love… geez-. ”

The assassin sighs. A spring night breeze blows over us. It’s just the right breeze to cool our burning bodies as we hold hands.

“It feels cool. I guess it will be summer soon. I don’t like summer because it’s hot.”

“Really? The pool and the ocean? There are also festivals and stuff. I always liked it.”

“Did you like it? ”

The assassin tilts her head back. I’m a little nervous at such a cute gesture, but I try my best to keep my composure.

“Well, I haven’t been going anywhere at all lately. It’s lonely to go alone .”

“I don’t have any friends. So neither do I. ”

The assassin smiles dryly. A self-deprecating smile. In my line of work, I don’t need connections, and neither do the assassins, and we’re better off without them. I used to think so, but not anymore.

“Let’s go to the beach, the pool, and the summer festivals together this year.”

Maybe she remembered that I had threatened her and made her do it. And she looked at me with a little bitterness.

Then the assassin spins her words as if she expects something from the night sky.

“I want to go to a summer festival. Because I’ve never been to one.”

“I’ve only been once. I wanted to go again, but usually, I have a lot of work to do.”

While we were talking such nonsense, the place where she tried to assassinate me came up. In other words, the place where the assassin and I met.

” …This is kind of awkward.”

The assassin tightens her grip on my hand. I looked at the assassin fearfully and saw that she had a big smile on her face.

I tease her a little with a look that says I’m ready to go at her anytime.

“How can you threaten me with no panties on?”

The assassin lets go of my hand and moves away from me, then she curls her back and shrinks away from me.

“I’m sorry.”

“I’m sure you’re not sorry. Anyway, I’m going to buy it quickly. ”

I run after the assassin, who then runs away. But the assassin doesn’t know the way, so she stops and stands beside me again silently.

“Quick, show me the way.”

“I can’t walk unless you hold my hand. To be honest, it’s easier for us to do it if you’re not wearing them, you know? ”

When I said this to provoke her, she put her hand in my direction and mumbled quietly. Her face is still staring at the asphalt,

“Come on, can we hurry up? ”

“Oh, okay.”

I clasp her hand back as if in answer to the hand offered to me. Between her and me, my heart was definitely beating faster than the assassin’s.
