Chapter 6 – An Encounter with the Male Lead

The days passed uneventfully.

Luo Bei went to work in a new company as a clerk. The boss saw her good looks and made her an assistant. Contrary to what you might be thinking, the boss of this company was not a man but a middle-aged woman. Her new boss was formidable, she became rich from her divorce with her husband a few years ago and started her own business. She was skilled and proficient in her job so the company expanded a lot within a few years.

Her salary was only raised 300 yuan from her position as a clerk to her new assistant role, but Luo Bei was already very satisfied.

It wasn’t like Luo Bei didn’t encounter fat male bosses who had less than appropriate intentions toward her when she went to banquets with the female boss. Rather, the female boss talked her ears off afterwards telling her not to stray off the right path before she could even say she was unwilling.

Luo Bei didn’t have the ambition to marry into a rich family and was even more unwilling to become a mistress of these men old enough to be her father.

She just wanted to work hard. After paying off Grandpa and Dad’s debt, she would start saving money to buy a house in the city. When she thought of the debt almost being fully paid off and that they already owned a building they could collect rent from, Luo Bei had no other intentions.

She wasn’t even thinking of finding a partner, let alone racking her brains and spending effort to marry rich.

Luo Bei and Zhao Pianpian’s relationship had developed very well recently. Luo Bei didn’t fawn on her too much, however, it was undeniable that they came into contact much more often than before. Zhao Pianpian’s personality and hers also matched quite well, so their friendship naturally strengthened. Zhao Pianpian also reminded her more than once not to become close to people with money. The world of the rich was different from ours, she shouldn’t insert herself into their midst.

Zhao Pianpian was indeed worthy of being the secretary of a successful CEO. She had taught her a lot of valuable experience in terms of work that her boss was becoming increasingly satisfied with her now.

The only catch was that her boss wanted to introduce her unmarried nephew to her.

These days, Zhao Pianpian really liked eating cakes and desserts. Because she had a good relationship with Luo Bei, she wasn’t shy and asked Luo Bei to go to the cake shop she previously frequented several times.

The places Luo Bei and her boss entertained clients at were basically located in the heart of the city. As long as she went to the city for a business outing, she would make sure to buy a slice of cake from that store for Zhao Pianpian.

Today was like any other day. Her boss did not have a personal driver since their company wasn’t that big. Luo Bei passed her driver’s license test while in college. She didn’t have much experience on the road but because her boss had to drink a few glasses of wine when entertaining, Luo Bei had a new part-time job as a driver over time.

Although she scratched the Toyota several times due to her carelessness, her boss was generous and increased her salary as a reward for being her driver.

With her boss lying in the back seat, Luo Bei got off the car to the cake shop to buy Zhao Pianpian some cake.

What Luo Bei didn’t expect was that she would actually encounter Lei Yuhao in the store.

Lei Yuhao wasn’t a celebrity, that’s why ordinary people wouldn’t be able to recognize him. However, Luo Bei had watched his long love-hate relationship with Zhao Pianpian in her dreams and was too familiar with his appearance.

Luo Bei didn’t dare tattle No matter how the story developed, no matter how rich Lei Yuhao was, at the end of the day she was now Zhao Pianpian’s friend. Since Zhao Pianpian had no intention of letting Lei Yuhao find her, she shouldn’t take the initiative to do anything.

The cake shop had sofa booths. Lei Yuhao was sitting alone on the side, a blueberry mousse cake was served on his table.

It was Zhao Pianpian’s favorite flavor.

Luo Bei bought a tiramisu on top of the blueberry mousse to not seem suspicious.

When she left the cake shop, she once again looked at where Lei Yuhao was seated and suddenly realized her actions were a little redundant. Lei Yuhao was immersed in his own world, he wouldn’t pay attention to a passerby like her.

Luo Bei finally realized why Zhao Pianpian chose to live in the slums.

No one would expect Zhao Pianpian to stay in the same city since she wanted to leave. Even more unexpected would be that Zhao Pianpian, who had taken five million yuan, would choose to stay in a poor area with a monthly rent of 1,000 yuan. This way, Zhao Pianpian would be able to move around much more conveniently.

It’s just that in the world of this novel, wasn’t it very easy for the male lead to find the female lead?

However, even if it was a plothole, it was a plothole to move the story along. Since the plot didn’t allow for the male lead to find the female lead, he wouldn’t be able to find her even if he was capable of it.

***

Zhao Pianpian was happily eating her blueberry mousse cake, her expression charming and beautiful. Not long after, though, her brows scrunched together.

“What’s wrong?” Luo Bei asked.

Zhao Pianpian’s due date was at the beginning of next month, but generally speaking, there weren’t many babies born right on their predicted due date. Luo Bei thought her expression was off and immediately became nervous.

Mmm, blueberry mousse cake!!! It mousse make your mouth water, eh? XD
