Name:The Fallen Merman Author:
“The PBB army is still evacuating the last batch of citizens. Once they confirm that all citizens have been evacuated, they will send a helicopter here.” Bai Chunian wiped off the blood on his rifle. “Now, the entire city of Enxi is empty and the PBBw Storm Forces are cleaning up the infected people that are roaming around the city. Currently, the most concentrated place for infected people is in this hospital.”

Firefly asked cautiously, “What about the others?”

“I’ve finished clearing the patients from the safe passage, so there should be no problems if they take the safe passage.” Bai Chunian tested the signal of the communicator to see if he could contact the other three special trainees. “Tell me how the Alliance Anti-Explosives Squad was destroyed.”

Firefly recalled the scene where he followed the seniors from the Anti-Explosives Squad and could still remember the despair at that time. For this rescue operation in Enxi City, the PBB military was responsible for the evacuation of citizens and high-level officials. The Storm Forces led by Major Xia were responsible for removing infected people from all corners of the city. While the Alliance Medical Association, which was led by Professor Zhong, was to disperse and treat the injured from the riot. And the Alliance Anti-Explosives Squad was responsible for infiltrating Enxi Hospital where the infection was most concentrated to investigate the source of infection and rescue the trapped medical staff.

When they entered Enxi Hospital, it was eerily silent, and not a living soul was in sight. When they pushed the door and entered the waiting area, a dense number of infected patients swarmed in. The seniors from the Anti-Explosives Squad covered the front and let the special trainees protect the several doctors from the Medical Association to evacuate.

But at that time, it was already too late to evacuate. The doors and windows were locked, and infected patients were swarming in from all directions, biting and scratching violently and indiscriminately. The four special trainees faced this condition in their first actual combat, so no one knew how to deal with it. Without closing their eyes for three days, they protected doctors to hide in a safe place desperately and avoided infected people all the way. In the moment of crisis, keeping doctors without casualties was already the result of their all-out efforts.

“The chief of the Anti-Explosives Squad has been slacking off lately, and the group members aren’t active in participating in internal drills.” Bai Chunian swept off the ashes from his sleeves. “The president will definitely get angry again. I hope it won’t affect us.”

Firefly was still hung up on the matter of the previous joker access control card. He wanted to ask but didn’t dare to ask. Bai Chunian could see it and briefly explained it. “Four wards, two large wards, and two small wards. Ward 4 can see the pattern under the beds of Wards 2 and 3. If your pattern is the same as Ward 2, it’s a small Joker card. Of course, Ward 4 knew that you have a big Joker card, they’re not stupid.”

“No one went out from Ward 4 after 15 minutes had passed. They couldn’t tell because you have different cards from Ward 2.”

While speaking, Bai Chunian remembered something. “By the way, I’ve finished checking the theory monthly preliminary exam. You got the entire logic part wrong. When we go back, find me alone.”

“I’m going to find a doctor named Lin Deng who works at Enxi Hospital. However, he is trapped, and I only know the approximate location.”

Bai Chunian connected the modified chip phone to the cryptograph, then the phone’s locked screen lit up and indicated that it was being decoded. The progress was at 1%.

Han Xingqian threw him a sideway glance. “I remember that you’re not good at electronics.”

Bai Chunian stared at the screen and smiled slightly, revealing half a canine tooth. “I found a new tool man recently. A great hacker and a computer expert.”

Han Xingqian asked, “Who?”

Bai Chunian replied, “Crawler omega.”

Set on the lock screen was a particularly high-resolution image of Rimbaud lying on the fish tank while his fingertips twirled the bandage on his belly. Han Xingqian usually wouldn’t pry on other people’s privacy, but Bai Chunian didn’t try to hide at all, so he saw it clearly.

There was a blond merman in the photo. He had a high brow bone, a high nose, a pair of crystal clear gem-like blue eyes, and light-colored eyelashes. From the bone to the skin, he could be described as a cold beauty. However, as a devilfish, his eyes held no seductive charm but instead, they reflected a sense of arrogance and coldness.

Han Xingqian said, “It seems he doesn’t have a low status in the merfolk clan. It turns out that you like such a wild appearance.”

“Ai, what’d you say?” Bai Chunian increased the screen brightness and brought the phone closer to Han Xingqian for him to see. “Look at these big eyes, pink and small lips. So beautiful, I like this the most.”

Han Xingqian pushed up his glasses. “It’s not as if the Alliance’s little omegas don’t have big eyes and small pink lips. You also reject them very simply.”

“It can’t be put like that.”

Han Xingqian wanted to say something but decided not to when he saw that Bai Chunian’s eyes were dead set on the omega in the picture.

The decoding progress bar reached 100%, and the coded door slowly opened to the sides. A rotting stench from the long period of confinement reached their faces. More than a dozen infected people in white coats were wandering in the five-meter wide corridor. Some were holding medical records, some had stethoscopes hanging around their necks, and some were walking while holding a CT image. When the coded door opened, the dozen or so infected doctors looked at the door at the same time. They all showed the identical vicious smile at the same time before they frenziedly roared and rushed over.

Bai Chunian turned around and asked Firefly. “Do you have spare ammunition left?”

Firefly shook his head.

“I applied for single support and thus didn’t have much weapons and equipment.” Bai Chunian threw his M98B to Firefly. “Take mine. You can come back once I’m done clearing these people.”

With a heavy rifle in his arms, Firefly nodded, then cautiously stuck closer to Dr. Han, trying to use his petite body to protect the alpha behind him.

Bai Chunian took out a tactical dagger from the gun belt on the side of his leg, tossed it up, and held it in his left hand. After that, he walked towards the infected person that was roaring madly.

The infected person who ran in the front grabbed Bai Chunian’s right arm first. The infected then opened his festering mouth dripping with blood to bite. Bai Chunian raised the blade of the dagger in front of that mouth, flipped his wrist, and quickly slashed the blade downward. A sharp cold light flashed, then the infected person’s jaw sliced off and fell to the ground. With the force of the slash, Bai Chunian neatly cut off the spine and the back of the head of the infected person.

Another infected person with a decaying body pounced on Bai Chunian from the side. Bai Chunian took a glance from the side and backhandedly inserted the dagger’s tip into the latter’s neck, easily avoiding the artery from spurting blood. A popping sound came from the loose rotten flesh and the shoulder blade suddenly broke at an unbelievable angle. Bai Chunian raised his hand, brought the knife down, and then the infected person lost his mobility due to a broken spine.

Firefly’s shooting skills were already considered perfect. His shots were all headshots, but he still couldn’t catch up to Bai Chunian’s speed to kill with his tactical dagger. In his eyes, Bai Chunian’s movements were incredibly fast, ruthless, and deadly. Even if the opponent wasn’t an infected person, but a trained sparring champion, that person probably wouldn’t last a minute under Instructor Bai.

The roars in the corridor gradually went down. Bai Chunian swept off the blood on the dagger, raised his foot, and crushed the head of the last infected person who fell to the ground.

Firefly replaced the magazine and escorted Dr. Han as he prepared to quickly pass through the corridor. Han Xingqian looked around at the walls and found some cracks in the stitch pattern of the wall tiles.

The length of each crack was about 10 cm and a width of 1 mm, faintly revealing some red light.

“Xiao Bai, there’s a heat-sensing detector.”

As soon as Han Xingqian finished his words, the cracks in the walls suddenly lit up with red light. The two walls were suddenly covered with thin cracks of red light about 10 cm and a moment later, sharp iron sheets burst out from the cracks.

The thin iron sheets were released so fast that the corpses on the ground were instantly cut to sheets by the dense flying iron pieces.

A huge JOKER card was inserted into the corpse’s head.

These were all metal poker cards with blades on all sides. Once they made contact, they could easily cut through the skin or even cut right through the bones.

What was even more nerve-wracking was that the flying metal poker cards didn’t stop once they landed. At this moment, Firefly discovered that the ground was also full of red light cracks in different directions. The metal poker blades flying out of the wall would fall into the cracks in the ground in a precisely calculated route to be recalled, and shoot in an endless loop until no more heat could be detected outside the setting in the corridor.

The recalled poker blades were stained with infected blood. Once cut by the blades, even if they didn’t die in a while, they would eventually contract the looping virus and become ferocious walking corpses.

Firefly shouted “Instructor, be careful,” then shot at the flying poker card blades with the M98B. However, the card blades were flying so fast that they were indistinguishable to the naked eye, so it was impossible to shoot them down.

The hurricane-like storm of poker cards locked Bai Chunian in the corridor. Bai Chunian nimbly went to the side to dodge a poker card, then turned back and jumped. He sandwiched the two poker cards that almost went into his eyes in between his fingers and into his hands.

His reflexes had reached a level that was impossible for humans. While he was dodging, the rich brandy pheromone naturally overflowed along with the consumption of energy. Firefly was so oppressed by this high-level pheromone that he knelt down, his palms on the ground, and cold sweat dripping from his forehead to the ground.

Han Xingqian calmly carried his lockbox, put one hand in the pocket of his white coat, and watched the movements in the corridor.

Bai Chunian wasn’t just simply dodging those cards but was casually wandering among them, collecting one playing card after another into his hands.

Although he couldn’t clearly see Bai Chunian’s movements, he could see that the number of poker cards fired on the wall was decreasing while the number of cards in Bai Chunian’s hands was increasing.

Soon after, the playing cards in the wall were emptied, and Bai Chunian stopped.

“I already knew it wasn’t infinitely released.” Bai Chunian held the stack of metal poker cards in his hands, fancily divided them, and twisted them apart. It was a whole deck of poker cards from A to K, and its numbers were neatly arranged. “After the first wave flew, I counted it clearly and there was no duplicate.”

Bai Chunian bent down and pulled out the last colored huge JOKER poker card inserted in the corpse’s head. He lifted up the corner of his coat, used it to carefully wipe the card clean, and placed it together with the other cards in his hand. With a smile in his eyes, he said to the surveillance camera in the diagonal corner of the corridor: “Samael, surrendering yourself now isn’t the same as being executed later after I discover it.”

“You’re a brat at best, so please know yourself.” Bai Chunian twisted the gray JOKER card from the whole deck of cards, pressed it to his lips, and kissed it. With the force of his fingers, he flicked the metal poker out. The little poker card spun rapidly and smashed the camera glass, its edge nailed firmly to the wall.
