Chapter 589: Inner Disciples continued

All the other undead Hao Xuan had seen so far resembled normal human beings quite closely. The most significant differences were the elongated limbs and deformed heads.

But this one was completely different. It was more of a monster in the shape of a human rather than something that was once a human. Even from far away it was giving off a dangerous energy that felt like death. There was no other way to describe it, it just felt like dying.

And Zou Huan was fighting it alone while the other guards kept the rest of the undead creatures at bay.

Hao Xuan had looked at the creature for less than 20 seconds when he felt a prickling sensation in his eyes and quickly looked away.

Seeing the sudden movement Han Rong came closer, "You're awake! Good! What's wrong?" he asked seeing Hao Xuan rubbing his eyes.

Hao Xuan gestured towards the white undead, "That thing, what is it?"

Han Rong glanced towards it, shaking his head in dismay, "A proof of our failure. If only we came a little sooner," he said with a sigh, "It used to be a human at some point but now it's a minor demon."

"A demon?!" Hao Xuan repeated in shock.

Han Rong nodded blankly with a hint of genuine surprise, "You...didn't know? I can smell a demon's aura on you so you must have been very close to one not too long ago, or did you not know it was a demon?"

Hao Xuan's forehead unconsciously creased up listening to Han Rong. He still couldn't remember what happened in the cabin but there was only one demon that came to mind.

Yet looking at Han Rong's rather carefree expression, he decided not to mention, at least for now, that a Demon God might be walking amongst them in some shape or form.

Hao Xuan stayed silent after that and Han Rong didn't say anything either, chalking it up to shock.

The lightly falling raindrops never ceased but the fire still burned in the background. The number of undead creatures steadily rose until they completely surrounded the guards like an ocean of rotting death.

They couldn't move a single step forward.

There were close to a thousand undead creatures, as far as the eye could see.

Some of them even stood in the fire trying to get close to them, jumping over one another to get a taste of perhaps the only living beings left in the area.

Other than the Han Rong, Hao Xuan, and the two injured guards that were carrying him everyone else was engaged in a life and death battle.

Hao Xuan looked at the guards that were fighting for dear life and forced himself to stand up. But he had greatly overestimated himself and quickly lost balance.

But Han Rong extended his hand just in time and lent him a shoulder, "You are still too weak," he warned and tried to put him back on the stretcher but Hao Xuan firmly refused. Even the two injured guards carrying the stretcher were in bad condition, how could he just lay there when most of these people were in worse conditions?

"I can fight. Just need to...eat a little...If I can just get...a little bit of energy back," Hao Xuan couldn't help but mumble.

A wry smile escaped from Han Rong's lips as he chuckled lightly, "If and buts, huh. If we were a little earlier, none of this would have had happened. If we weren't being restricted by the world spirit then we could have cleansed all of them with ease. But we were late, and we are still restricted."

Hao Xuan looked at him in confusion, "You guys just got here? What are your realms?"

Han Rong smiled sheepishly, "Yeah, a little late like I said. I'm Profound Realm Stage 7, he is Stage 9," he pointed towards Zou Huan, "We came as soon as we heard about the strange phenomenon."

"So you can't even use your Qi right now?" Hao Xuan asked, getting a nod in response.

"No one can use Qi right now. The bloody rain that you people experienced before is called hells tears, among other names. It saps away spiritual energy from the air and if a cultivator comes in direct contact with it, the same happens to their Qi," Han Rong explained.

Hao Xuan acted surprised but not for the reason Han Rong thought. Hao Xuan's Qi was already in a disarray due to the Law of Chaos so he hadn't even noticed a difference, but it made sense now that he thought about.

Of the over 20 cultivators here, only 2 were using Qi, and even that barely.

He looked towards Zou Huan who was engaged in single combat with the minor demon. His arms were covered in a dim golden light, the same as the one coming Han Rong had used to heal Hao Xuan's injuries.

But while Han Rong's energy felt warm and gentle, Zou Huan's felt hard and sturdy.

Hao Xuan could see whenever Zou Huan landed a punch on the minor demon's body, that energy would leave a black mark there.

Whatever it was, it was deadly to demons.
