Yao Tang gazed at his scar thoughtfully.

Seeing her furrowed eyebrows, Cheng Yan tilted back. “Is there something wrong?” he questioned, snapping her out of her reverie.

“Your scar…”

However, before she could even continue with what she was about to say, her phone started to ring.

She turned on her phone to see Yao Yan’s name popping up on her screen. “Hello,” she greeted as soon as the call was connected.

“Are you alright?” His panicked voice came through. “I heard you were attacked. Were you hurt?”

“I’m fine.”

As soon as Yao Yan received a message from the bodyguard, he immediately called up his sister.

While the bodyguard had reassured him that she wasn’t injured in the process, he still wanted to make sure. He took a deep breath, finally calming down after hearing her response.

“I’m here for you, okay? Always.”

While it was just a couple of words, Yao Tang couldn’t help but feel warm inside. She had been so used to taking care of everything on her own that relying on somebody else felt unusual.

A genuine smile grew on her face. “Okay.”

“You’re almost home, right? I’ll wait for you.”

She hesitated for a moment as Elder Guan crossed her mind. Had he already left? “We’re almost home, but…”

He didn’t need to ask anything more, understanding the meaning of her words.

“Don’t worry.” He stared out the window. “He’s gone.”

Only then did she sigh in relief.

“Then I’ll head back now.”

When Yao Yan heard that, he couldn’t help but feel amused and concerned about her situation. He rubbed his forehead and shook his head.

His sister still wasn’t an adult yet, yet she had already achieved so much. However, if it weren’t for her high-intensity work, she wouldn’t have to keep hiding from him.

He didn’t really know how else to protect her.

If it weren’t for the fact that she was too exhausted, she wouldn’t have run out like this. “I’ll wait for you then.”

After hanging up the phone, Yao Yan pursed his lips, appearing to be deep in thought.

He needed to find a way to fix this so that his sister could finally be at peace, but how? He tilted his head, drumming his fingers onto the table. So many things to consider…

On the other side of the city, Yao Tang had finally arrived at Cheng Yan’s house.

She stretched out her hand to support the man sitting beside her, and Cheng Yan leaned against her shoulders. Even then, she didn’t feel as if he were too heavy.

His breath tickled her ears.

Yao Tang originally wanted to hand him over to Qin Hao, but when she arrived, she realized that no one else was there.

She had no other choice but to assist him up to his bedroom and place her own pill bottle on the table. “Change the dressing on your wounds every day, and make sure to apply this, okay?”

“The wound’s on my back.” He frowned. “I can’t apply it on my own.”

“Then have Qin Hao apply it for you.”

“I gave the kid a holiday! He’s probably off celebrating somewhere.”

Yao Tang tilted her head. “Cheng Yi then.”

“He’ll be investigating the flower pot incident for the next couple of days. I don’t think he’ll be coming back quickly.” Cheng Yan appeared helpless as he leaned onto the cushions.

“Don’t you have a secretary?”

“Not available.”

“Family doctor?” she tried again.

He should be here by now, right? Why would a family doctor take a leave of absence?

As soon as he heard her words, Cheng Yan sighed and closed his eyes, not wanting to look at her.

Seeing that he didn’t have any other reaction, she added, “How about this? I’ll write a note here and you can hand that over to the doctor.”

Cheng Yan finally brought his attention back to Yao Tang. There was a flicker of loneliness in his eyes before it vanished. “Forget it,” he murmured. “It’s just a small injury. I don’t need the doctor to come over.”

Yao Tang stopped, pursing her lips.

“It’s fine if you don’t apply for the medicine,” she responded flatly.

“However, your recovery would be slow and painful. You also aren’t able to take a shower.”

Her voice was casual as if she was explaining things to a young boy.

Cheng Yan gritted his teeth. “Yao Tang!”

Even then, Yao Tang pretended to be oblivious.

“What’s wrong?”
