316 The last person on the list

In a claustrophobic dark small room with no windows muffled murmurs could be heard. Sounds of metal clanking became even more amplified and so did the muffled cries.

After hours and hours of crying out and trying to free himself the man finally lost his strength and lay there his eyes closed with his chest rising and falling vehemently.

His fingers that were resting on his side suddenly felt something underneath the bed. It was part of the bed but because it was sticking out it was easy to break off. The people who brought him here were very smart. They had put him in a dark room with an old bed with no electronics because with his identity the security nanoparticles circulating in his body would hack into the digital space and send an SOS signal.

Out of desperation the man pulled and pulled at the part of the old hospital bed that was sticking out. Because the piece was rusted its integrity was compromised.

His entire body was ridden with sweat as he kept jerking at a twisted angle because he was cuffed. His fear of death made him overlook the cut on his palm from tugging at the metal object under the bed.

His heart leaped when he finally managed to break the small metal off the hospital bed. He glanced down at the object his eyes deep like he had found his life-saving grace. His hand trembling he hid the sharp object underneath his body and exhaled deeply trying to calm his chaotic emotions.

What he didn’t realize was that someone was watching his every action. That person was none other than secretary K. He turned to Zi Xingxi and asked, “Should I go in?”

Zi Xingxi’s lips quirked slightly into a sly grin as she glanced at the man through the wide two-way mirror which the man hadn’t noticed because it was dark.

“No... let’s give him some hope,” said Zi Xingxi before turning to the open door and exiting. Secretary K immediately followed after her.

.....

The door that had been shut for more than twelve hours finally opened shining some light through the room. The man’s eyes squinted as he adapted to the light and when he saw two figures walking in he began to make more noises again while tugging at the cuff on his wrists. This was his chance to free himself thus his actions turned frenzied on that bed.

Zi Xingxi slowly walked over to the bed as the door was closed shut and the light from before vanished. The man’s heart sank with each step that person took. His forehead covered in a layer of cold sweat he pulled out the sharp metal object from underneath his body and clenched it in his fist as he gulped.

With a click, the lamp on the bedside switched on and shone at the man. When he saw the face of the perpetrator his chest tightened as his eyes shrank. He knew the people he had contracted in the dark to murder the prince were dropping one by one like flies. He also knew this day would come, the day when the Bloodgarde caught on. But because of his current identity as the prime minister of Lienov, he didn’t think Zi Xingxi would be that bold.

Back then he was second in command in the palace after his father who was the chief steward to the Emperor. This meant he was next in line and would become the chief steward after his father passed away.

Everything about that position was great with so many benefits that left others covetous. But for him, it wasn’t enough. He didn’t want to be like his father and his grandfather who were servants to the emperor before him. Thus when this plan was brought forward to him he took it and executed it with perfection.

He might have been able to operate in the shadows but his father who knew him best figured out what was happening and tried to stop it. Things got heated between them and it didn’t take long for it to turn physical. It was then that he accidentally killed his father. Thus for this position he had spilled blood. He had sacrificed his father.

Recalling what he sacrificed to be who he was today he became courageous staring back at the demon that had just crawled out of hell.

Zi Xingxi’s grin grew bigger seeming pleased with his reaction. Oh, how she loved them feisty. She gently pulled down the cloth covering his mouth and asked, “Is that better prime minister Fortin?”

“You bitch!... You know my identity but still dare! Release me!!” he yelled only for secretary K to take a step forward to shut him up but Zi Xingxi raised her hand to stop him.

“Oh pardon me. For a moment I forgot your identity prime minister,” she said her expression disingenuous.

She was very insincere but she did walk around the hospital bed and caught the keys Secretary K tossed at her.

“When I asked someone to grab you it seems I forgot your identity. Now that you have asked me to let you go how can I disobey your order?” she said while unlocking the cuffs. With a soft click, the cuffs opened and she walked back around unlocking the next one.

The man glanced at his wrist that was free and pulled it out his thoughts unknown. Before Zi Xingxi could fully unlock the other handcuff the prime minister suddenly jabbed at her with the piece of metal intending to stab her.

Before the man could stab Zi Xingxi in the eye, his arm was caught by the person he intended to hurt. His eyes widened as he jerked his arm to free himself but no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t loosen that grip. The disparity in their strength was obvious. He was absolutely no match for her.

Zi Xingxi began to move prime minister Fortin’s arm towards his shoulder. When the man realized what she was planning on doing he gathered all his strength and pushed back while yelling, “No... stop... stop you crazy bitch!”

Zi Xingxi bit her lower lip with slight craziness in her eyes. The word ‘bitch’ triggered her. Without a second thought, she grasped his clenched fist so he wouldn’t let go of that sharp object.

“Aaahhh fuck no no no,” said the man as the rusty object cut through his palm. Zi Xingxi almost crushed his hand.

She drove that sharp piece into his shoulder and the man screamed at the top of his lungs. This was only the beginning of his suffering.

“AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!” he screamed and writhed but there was no one to save him.

Zi Xingxi made him stab into his shoulder repeatedly until the man’s clavicle bone was clearly visible in the pool of blood and mangled flesh.

Zi Xingxi whose face had blood splatters grasped his wrist and forced him to let go of the sharp metal before she took a step back raking her fingers through her hair.
