139 Shark plushy

“I..... I um..... I,” were the soft-spoken stammers coming from the silver haired girl as she nervously held out a gift and pink envelope. Her slim glossy arms were trembling as she stood there almost questioning why she decided to do this in person.

She had admired Zi Han from the first day of school when he fought in class one. It was a bit of an odd situation for one to realize their feelings but she couldn’t help it.

He was like a beacon in the dead of night shining a mesmerizing light upon the masses. She was into the crazy fun type so after learning he was single through the grapevine she made her move.

Zi Han on the other hand wasn’t interested in what she had to say. Rather he was more interested in the shark plushy in her hand. It was just like the diagrams of old earth’s sharks but with an evil grin and bright eyes.

He liked fluffy things, to begin with, so he couldn’t help but keep staring at it. This is why he always agreed with his mum to wear those cute comfortable onesies. He liked hugging fluffy things just as much as he liked wearing fluffy things, well, in private of course.

He still liked sleeping naked but on those cold winter nights, he would drag one of his fluffy onesies out of retirement. Apparently, he just discovered that he also likes plushy sharks with evil grins.

While he was thinking of ways to get that shark plushy without accepting her confession, Shorty and Shaun were craning their necks through the crack of the door while whispering to each other.

“You think he will agree with her and date?” asked Shorty in a low whisper while pushing Shaun’s body away to get a clear view.

“Stop fidgeting otherwise we will get caught,” whispered Shaun while pushing him back, “I thought you were his best friend? You should know him better than me.”

.....

Shorty sulkily craned his neck while whispering, “She is pretty.

... I hope he says yes.”

“Yes to what?” said a cold steely voice behind them. Having been caught in the act their bodies stiffened as they turned their backs to the door.

“No, nothing.... we are doing.....,” said Shorty his voice tremulous.

“Absolutely nothing,” continued Shaun finishing off Shorty’s sentence.

Yi Chen’s eye twitched before he pushed the door open. At the base of the stairs were two figures one of which he was very familiar with.

A boy and girl on the staircase with a pink letter and gift, this scene was familiar to him. It only happened to him once and after ruthlessly rejecting the girl no other girls came to bother him.

He didn’t see anything wrong with what he said but apparently, his words made her cry earning him the title ‘Heartbreaker’.

It was only normal that Zi Han would be confessed to. He was very handsome and his personality was like nectar to bees. This was the reason he fell for him in the first place. It’s just that he didn’t expect Zi Han to accept the girl’s gift.

Seeing this scene a sharp knife stabbed right into his heart. He knew that Zi Han wasn’t his, to begin with, but he had subconsciously hoped he would stay single while slowly falling for him (Yi Chen). At this moment he wished he was a girl who could openly express her feelings without being rejected mercilessly. He envied her at this moment.

He jerked back and let go of the door. This attracted Zi Han’s attention. He raised his head in that direction and saw two people snooping while a familiar figure disappeared.

Shorty gave him two thumbs up having assumed that he had accepted her confession while Shaun also had slight approval in his eyes. Like Yi Chen, they had misunderstood him.

Zi Han was just interested in the little shark. Thinking he could catch up with Yi Chen he hastily said, “You can scan this code for the transfer.”

The girl who had been rejected was on the brink of tears but she couldn’t lose her composure in front of this person. She swallowed back her emotions and straightened her back as she scanned the code.

Zi Han smiled happily as he shook the shark in his hand. “Thanks..... and I hope one day you will meet someone who will love you,” he said not even sure if his words were appropriate or not.

He immediately rushed up the stairs and the pair made way for him. “Which direction did the class president take?” asked Zi Han while striding in the corridor. Shaun pointed to the left and Zi Han bolted with the shark plush n his hand bouncing happily.

“Where are you going?” asked Shorty and Zi Han turned around walking backward while replying,

“I have something to do. I will see you in class,” before vanishing.

Shorty tsked while saying, “It must be nice falling in love. How exci-,” but before he could finish what he was saying Shaun nudged him with his elbow. When he looked over he saw the shy girl sitting on the stairs looking dejected. They finally realized that this heartless friend of theirs was excited just now because of the shark plushy. How sad.

While Shaun and Shorty were trying to figure out whether they should comfort her or not, Zi Han caught up with Yi Chen and pulled him into the janitor robot’s closet station. The space was tight but Zi Han didn’t care.

He felt like ever since the blind date thing Yi Chen had been very moody with his emotions fluctuating on both extremes of the spectrum in short intervals. This was very concerning thus he wanted to have a heart-to-heart conversation with him.

With his shark poking at Yi Chen’s chest he asked, “Why did you walk away just now?... Are you still upset about the shower thing?”

Yi Chen who was leaning his back against the wall with a despondent look didn’t look at him. He just answered, “We will be late for mech repair class,” as he moved his body like he was about to walk out.

Zi Han pushed Yi Chen back with the face of the shark squishing onto his chest before responding, “You have been getting really upset with me lately. It seems like one minute we are on the same page and then bam!..... Out of nowhere, you are upset with me..... Tell me what I can do so I can fix this.”

Yi Chen glanced at the shark pressing on his chest before looking back at him with an expectant gaze. Zi Han had an ominous premonition when he saw those dark eyes staring at his new prized collection.

He withdrew the little shark while Yi Chen simultaneously asked for it, “Give it to me.”

Zi Han, “.....”
