Chapter 385

385 Vincent is envied and admired

The journal had a couple of diagrams and theories on how to heal patients, but it felt as if they were written many years ago by a young healer. Some ideas felt a little too unrealistic when seen by a person like Vincent, who heard about modern medical procedures.

“We will need to thank Marquis Darwin Griffinheart when we have the chance.” Vincent thought the blushing excited Lilith with a pair of faintly foggy glasses looked cute. He chuckled and continued with a smile on his face. “This journal has a lot of theories and thoughts about how to heal a person with mana. Kazumi can help you later with some of the medical knowledge from our world.”

There was one book remaining on the desk. It didn’t have a title but a bookmark with words poked from its side. Ester saw Lupa interested in what was in the last book, but she didn’t know how to read.

Ester picked the book and pulled out the bookmark.

“Every Sigil Mage turns to Glyph magic in the end. As you learned by now, unlike Mages, the other three types of Mages, which are the Sigil, Scribe, and Glyph Mages, can interact with the four primary elements at the start of their Class. This book was given to many Sigil Mages who aspired to become something... but they lost their motivation or their lives in the end. However, as Ester Lionheart can’t be hurt by her mana, this book might finally never return back to me. PS: Backstory aside, this book contains basic Glyph diagrams and theories of all elements written and corrected by many aspiring Sigil Mages.”

Ester read both sides of the bookmark. She thought it would have been better to write it on a page, yet she understood Darwin didn’t want to ruin the blood, sweat, tears, and lives of those who contributed to the book.

[I thought Darwin was going to give us a mediocre gift, but this gift is more than I ever expected after humiliating his daughter.]

Vincent felt the same as Kazumi. Furthermore, he would find out how Sakura also received a gift in the coming days.

Lupa was unhappy after she didn’t receive a gift. She clung to Vincent’s arm and asked to explore the island together.

.....

Plow raised her ears and barked while wagging her tails cutely to join them. She didn’t want Lupa to attract more attention than her.

Vincent and Kazumi became curious now that Darwin’s gift was opened, and the subject changed to an intriguing one.

“Can I come too? I want to see the nature around her.” Iris said. She blushed and averted her gaze. After mustering her courage, she asked, “Can I also plant seeds? I... I don’t want to be an inconvenience, though...”

“Ester. Lilith. Do you two want to come with us?” Vincent asked.

“No.” Both replied at the same time.

Ester and Lilith looked at each other and smiled as if they were in synch. Their eyes landed on the books gifted explicitly for their improvement. Now, their intention to read a few pages before going to sleep was set.

Lupa was happily wearing a maid outfit like Ester and Iris. She fixed her dress and followed Vincent with Plow on his shoulder and Iris with Zero on her head to explore the island. Ester and Lilith remained in the mansion with a book in their hands.

Ester didn’t have any problems reading because she knew how to read. Only her handwriting was on a different horrible level. But now that she has six months stuck in the mansion, she could use the time to improve.

Later, Vincent reached the edge of the island. However, there was only sea in sight. He extended his hand as a test, but as he imagined, he felt his fingertips touch an invisible wall.

The island appeared to have a handful of small critters that ran away upon being seen. The more they examined the invisible barrier and how it worked, the more ideas flashed in their minds.

Vincent had simple thoughts such as the animals couldn’t like them and how certain elements like rain and air could be allowed to pass unhindered.

On the other hand, Kazumi had a more presumptuous train of thought. She thought to the point of believing about how critters such as birds would sense a bizarre presence while approaching the invisible barrier.

Thus, if anyone were outside, they wouldn’t see a bird suddenly disappearing nor slamming against the barrier as if it crashed into a thick though glass. The island would remain safe and unnoticed this way.

However, in the end, Kazumi had no way to prove her claim.

[It is as we thought. We can’t leave the island as we please. Only by teleportation can we come here as we please.]

-It feels like we are trapped in an aquarium. We can see the outside through an invisible wall, but we can leave as we please.-

“Does this mean the only food we can have is the ones we grow ourselves and the food the humans are going to send to us tomorrow?” Iris questioned as she placed her hand against the invisible barrier.

“Food?” Vincent quickly asked.

Iris blushed after she remembered how she, Lupa, and Ester forgot to tell Vincent and Lilith about this.

Previously, Ester, Lupa, and, Iris were too preoccupied with helping to inform Vincent about the five supply crates the academy was going to teleport every Monday morning starting from tomorrow.

“Ahh. Yes.” Iris answered while averting her gaze. Later she informed Vincent and Kazumi of the necessary details.

[Well, at least Iris remembered to tell us how ingredients will be teleported here every Monday morning. We will have no problem with food and drinks that way.]

-I hope one of my wives knows how to cook delicious meals...-

[...]

Vincent and Kazumi stopped for a moment of silence. The idea of having a wife that can cook appeared in their thoughts.

Ester might have some levels of cooking skills, but on the other hand, Lupa only knew how to cook meat while Iris only knew about vegetables since her goblin tribe didn’t do too well when it involved hunting.

However, Lilith never cooked in her entire life. She was the only wife who couldn’t help much went it involved cooking food.

Vincent went over to Iris and pulled her onto him by her hip. “How about we find a good place to make a small garden filled with herbs and the Sage Apple trees?” He asked.

Iris raised her head and replied, “Yes!” with a bright smile. Her heart fluttered as she kept staring lovingly at his eyes.

Later, they arrived at the back of the mansion. The vast empty, and cleared space brought a smile to Iris’s face. There was only a handful of wildflowers and wild grass here and there. It appeared to have been taken care of a couple of weeks ago.

Vincent summoned an empty cup and filled it with soil. He bit his finger and pressed on his wound to drop a small amount of blood in the soil.

“Zero, you can stay in here for now. Later you can live in the garden Iris will make. I will feed you regularly. You don’t need to worry.” Vincent said as he waved the cup in front of Zero. The lazy Zero suddenly came to life after noticing the scent of Vincent’s blood.

Zero saw Vincent giving the cup to Iris. It slowly climbed down Iris’s hair and went on the cup. It planted its roots and said (Zero. Happy.)

Vincent and Iris smiled since they and Kazumi were the only ones who could hear it speak. Lupa and Plow tilted their heads with a frown on their faces. Both felt a little left out.

Shortly, the small group entered the mansion. Nick was in the living room with Vivid when he saw Vincent enter. On his face was an envious expression.

Previously, Nick wanted to ask if Vincent wanted to go to Duke Biro Hawkins’s class together. When he was searching for Vincent, he saw that a bedroom became a dressing room, another bedroom became a study and relaxing room, and two doors led to the same large bedroom with three beds.

Nick greeted Ester and Lilith while his eyes couldn’t move away from the three beds beside each other. His face soon blushed after his innocent mind ran rampant with ideas.

‘All at once? Impossible?... but... he is my friend after all... he must be special? Right?’ He thought as his face blushed like a bulb.

Nick quickly left and went to the living room to ease his mind. Beside him was Vivid, grinning about Nick’s single life stabbing his heart. Nick received critical emotional damage this evening.

“Vincent, you lucky bastard...” Nick mumbled when Vincent entered his sight. The emotions of a single life he managed to subdue returned. He felt envious of Vincent’s luck once again.

“Hey, Nick. We went to look around, and the invisible barrier is interesting.” Vincent was about to get sidetracked, so he asked, “Do you have any problems if my wife Iris grows a garden of herbs, vegetables, and trees at the back of the mansion?”

“No, I don’t mind. ” Nick replied.

“I will go to ask the others if they don’t mind. See you for tomorrow’s lesson Nick. ” Vincent said before he left.

Lupa, Plow, and Iris with Zero in the cup went to their bedroom while Vincent when to ask the remaining two nobles of his team. He knocked on the door, and Pussy greeted him.

Pussy was with Clair. There was enough stuff in the room for two people to sleep together. It appeared the two of them were going to share the same bedroom.
