This caused Sanwang and a few other troublemakers to feel envious of the young boy. Unfortunately for them, Han Qingping didn’t go easy on them at all. After a few caning punishments on the palm of their hands, none of the boys dared to show up to school late anymore.

A few days later, Han Qingsong went to the county to hold a meeting on how to deal with Youth Chen before going to see Han Qinghua at the labour reform farm. Other than that, he spent most of the rest of the time at home with Lin Lan, helping her with farming, repairing canals or helping her to earn even more work points.

Lin Lan wanted him to rest, but he stubbornly refused, so she just let him do what he wanted to.

It felt really good to have the entire family working hard together.

Lin Lan was lighting the fire and proceeded to start cooking when someone came in from outside, “Dawang’s mother, it seems like you’re cooking.”

Lin Lan hurriedly got up. Seeing that it was Xiuyun’s mother, her expression had become much more cheerful. As if a large rock had been removed from her chest, her entire being relaxed.

Lin Lan beckoned her into the house and asked in a low voice, “Is Xiuyun back?”

Xiuyun’s mother put a small basket of eggs on the table and nodded, “She’s back. Dawang’s mother, this is all thanks to you hatXiuyun’s baby is safe. You are the great benefactor of our Liu family.”

Lin Lan hurriedly said, “Sister-in-law, you are being too polite. When have I deserved credit? It was the Secretary Head, Brigade Leader and the Women’s Director who did all the work since I’m mainly just a supporter.”

Xiuyun’s mother only thought that Lin Lan was speaking modestly, so she said with a smile, “Your words resonated with our child whereas everything that we said back then fell on deaf ears. If it weren’t for you and Qingsong, our family would have ended up in ruins.”

If it wasn’t for Lin Lan persuading Xiuyun and Qingsong to bring Youth Chen back, the Liu family would truly be turned into a family of broken shoes. If that happened, they would not be able to hold their heads up high in the future.

At present, things were relatively better. Although they were not married yet, Youth Chen personally admitted that he was going to marry Xiuyun. With that, no one would ever accuse Xiuyun of being a pair of broken shoes, so even if the marriage didn’t work out, it wasn’t going to be her fault.

Liu Xiuyun stayed at her grandmother’s house for a few days. After much consideration, she decided to abort the child. Since Youth Chen was going to be sent into a labour camp, there wasn’t any reason to keep it either. Even if she were to give birth to the child, there wasn’t a guarantee that their life would turn out to be happy.

At first, Xiuyun came to discuss with Lin Lan when she still couldn’t make a resolute decision as to what to do with the child. For some reason, she always felt that Lin Lan understood things better than the people around her.

Besides, Lin Lan tended to speak the truth in direct words without ever spreading other’s information without their consent.

Lin Lan didn’t say much as she replied, “Don’t think of the child as a life for now. It is very young and doesn’t even have a conscious mind, so the child won’t be thinking about anything. You only need to consider your situation— will having the kid result in a good conclusion for you and your family? Will you be able to take care and raise the child properly with how you are now? Amongst other things, consider them all and you’ll have your answer.”
