She regarded Han Qingsong’s contribution to the family as his love for her and hence, believed that she was of a different rank in her third brother’s heart. That’s why she wanted to act like a spoiled child whenever she had a chance to see Han Qingsong.

Han Qingsong, “Do your own tasks.”

The youngest aunt  stomped her feet, “What do you mean ‘my own tasks’? Why is this my business? Besides, why can’t you do it for her and not for me?”

Only then did Han Qingsong turn to look at her with a light gaze, “Who is she? That’s my wife.”

Lin Lan felt bad about her children going to work for the autumn harvest at such an early hour, so she tried to find ways to improve the food they ate.

The half a catty of meat that Han Qingsong brought back had been consumed long ago. Besides, he wouldn’t be able to buy scraps of food that didn’t require tickets all the time. At most, he would only be able to do so once every couple of days.

Lin Lan didn’t force him either. After all, his position was still high and his personality was not very flexible, so he must’ve always felt like he was misusing his power for personal gain whenever he was asked to do something like that. However, he was willing to reserve them in advance for special days. For example, Lin Lan said on the day they were to erect the beams and on the Mid-Autumn Festival, their food must be good. Hence, she got him to make a booking for pig heads, pig hooves, pig tails, etc., and buy them at normal prices.

Lin Lan also basically made dishes out of all the eggs that were laid by the three hens in the family. If the eggs weren’t enough to eat fried, she would make egg soups and stewed egg pickles for the entire family.

Due to the economically friendly ingredients, she would have to put more effort into the cooking process if she wanted the food to taste better. After going back and forth for such a long time, Lin Lan’s cooking skills have improved a lot.

The upright Sanwang could testify to that claim as he would never tell lies to make other people happy.

In the blink of an eye, on the 10th day of the eighth lunar month, it was the day to erect the beams for the new house.

Lin Lan brought Erwang and Maisui to prepare the offerings one day in advance. She also asked Han Qingsong to go to the butchering team to reserve a pig head in advance. Eldest brother Lin sent two carps that were reared in their village as Han Yongfang delivered them a bottle of wine.

The eldest sister-in-law of the Han family came to help Lin Lan make the carps into a dish and a few other delicacies, explaining the reason for eldest brother Han’s absence. The old lady was stirring up trouble at home. If the eldest brother Han were to come and help Han Qingsong set up the beams, she threatened that she was going to jump into the river.

Naturally, Lin Lan didn’t care. Anyway, if the eldest brother wasn’t able to come, there would always be someone else. With Han Qingsong’s admirable reputation, it wouldn’t be hard to find someone to help them.

The eldest sister-in-law was relieved when she saw that Lin Lan was not angry and put more effort into helping her cook the dishes.

Lin Lan praised, “Eldest sister-in-law, you are really good at cooking.”

The dishes were completed in an array of colours, flavours waiting to burst with every bite.

Eldest sister-in-law said with a smile, “On such an occasion, you have to spend some time on it to make it good.”
