Chapter 54 Jade's Coming

Arthur went to the porch of the house, waiting for his aunt's car there.

The moment it entered the courtyard, he could already see Jade's figure. The woman was driving while Isabel sat in the back.

She wore a black suit, looked quite neat even though her hair was still difficult to tidy up.

After stopping the car, she got down and moved directly to the back door to open it. In the process, she didn't even glance at Arthur who was standing quite close.

Isabel then got down from the car. Different from usual where she looked tired after coming home from work, this time she looked still relaxed, as if there was no burden at all, which was clearly a result of her magic power.

She showed a smile on her face as she looked at Jade.

"Thank you, I've never seen a young person as diligent and thorough as you at work, come on in," she said before turning her gaze to Arthur and taking a step.

A compliment from Isabel still didn't change Jade's expression, she followed behind her. Only after that did she look at Arthur.

"Arthur, come on in." Isabel also said that to Arthur as he was still standing still while she almost passed him.

Arthur didn't respond, he still stared at Jade and stepped into the path she was about to walk to block her steps.

Jade has no other choice but to quit. Her expression turned slightly doubtful.

"The military sending spies is something I wish for, but why are they sending you?" Arthur asked, causing Jade's expression to change even more.

Before she could say anything Arthur added, "please don't say something cliche like 'I was sent because I am the best fit to protect Mrs. Isabel.' Tell me the truth!"

"E-em..." Jade lost her composure slightly, her eyes blinking rapidly.

It was beyond her expectation that Arthur would ask such a direct question, even asking her not to make cliche excuses.

She took a deep breath with her lips pressed together before finally answering. "I volunteered."

"Oh, you volunteered? Why?" Arthur thought this was something strange. He met Jade's eyes, which seemed to have calmed down after answering the first question.

"To protect Mrs. Isabel," she replied with the cliché answer Arthur meant.

However, Arthur felt like she wasn't lying at all.

"Arthur, she's a good woman, I know that, no need to keep investigating." Isabel suddenly chimed in.

That she was being friendly and even complimented Jade indicated that she liked her quite a bit. Arthur couldn't help but wonder what had caused that.

As Arthur stared at her, she motioned for Jade to enter first. The woman was completely obedient, she went straight into the house.

But of course, Arthur didn't speak right away. He waved his hand, creating an invisible spiritual wall all around. Evolvers might not be able to compare to magi, but they were still no ordinary creatures, their hearing was quite above average.

Isabel who became a magus can feel the spiritual wall. Before Arthur could ask, she said, "I've done some investigations, and asked a few friends for Jade's data. — What I've found is that she's a clean and dedicated warrior, never having committed any offense. She will always do what she thinks is right even though sometimes she has to challenge her own superiors."

That's somewhat unexpected information. Of course, that couldn't be relied on to trust her.

Arthur still didn't get to speak when Isabel continued "we're not going to tell her about magic, of course. However, there's no need to put too much pressure on her, just make her unable to talk about magic if she accidentally encounters it."

"Looks like you've decided on a plan for her." Arthur sighed, no longer saying anything about Jade.

Silently, he sent his spiritual bird into the woman's body.

Of course, just because she was a good, honest, loyal, and dedicated soldier, didn't mean she could be trusted completely, like what if their ideologies clashed.

Arthur had no plans of including her as part of his group unless she actually changed her object of loyalty, from being loyal to the country, to being loyal to him or even to his aunt.

If she was loyal to him, he wouldn't mind teaching her magic. This was quite a good thing considering she was an expert in combat.

"Come on in," Isabel said again.

At this time, Jade was standing by the sofa, not sitting at all.

Until Isabel sat down on that couch and even beckoned to her, she was still standing.

Isabel ended up not forcing it. She said, "later, you will live there." Isabel pointed at one of the windows.

Outside not far from that window, there were three dormitories, which couldn't be said to be small.

They'd been there a long time but it was always empty except for some days where Isabel's assistant worked late at the house so they had to stay the night.

They were indeed prepared for that or for bodyguards who were also ordered to guard the house.

Jade calmly nodded. She then asked, "Are there any other rules I have to remember?"

"The important thing is not to enter this house without permission unless you have a good reason. When it's time for breakfast and dinner, you can enter. I'll send a signal later."

"Mmn," Jade replied in a low, wordless voice.

"Right..." Isabel then looked up. "Carla, are you there? Come here," she said in a loud voice.

Carla who was followed by Bella immediately appeared at the top of the stairs. The two of them were slightly confused as they looked at Jade.

They could guess why Isabel had called Carla, to introduce Jade to her. It was precisely that that confused them because it was unusual for her to introduce someone who worked for her to her family members.

And when they glanced at Arthur, the man suddenly made a quick movement with his hand, as if signaling them, letting them know that Jade was quite a special guest.
