The Hero Rescues the Beauty (1)

Anna seemed to lie down coolly, but she was a little flustered in her heart.

Although she felt that the demon was very tolerant before, who knew if this incident was the last straw that broke the camel’s back?

She was worried, but she had to slow down her breathing, pretending that she was calm at the moment, but in fact, her ears were upright and listening attentively to the movement behind her, for fear that the demon would suddenly float in front of her and say, “I’m not playing with you anymore, go die.”

Fortunately, the worst possible outcome that Anna thought did not have happened.

She overheard the sound of footsteps from behind her, but they did not seem to be approaching her; rather, they were moving slightly away, and then the demon probably sat down, because after that, he made no sound.

Anna lay stiffly for a while. She only relaxed after making sure that there was no movement there.

This time Anna wanted to get over the situation quickly. Thus, she could no longer be like in the past and tell him that he was a good person, etc.; this would only give the demon the illusory hope that he could successfully use this body to deceive her.

She just wanted to tell the demon plainly that she doesn't like Dubian at all, and she was completely using Dubian. She wanted him to know that it would be useless for him to possess Dubian, so that he would give up the idea of possessing the latter, and Dubian could finally reunite with his teacher properly.

Before when the demon possessed other people, Anna couldn't stop it. At the time, due to her own identity, she couldn't make any drastic actions.

But Dubian was her friend. She really didn't want to see the demon doing strange things with Dubian's body, so she took the risk and said this.

Fortunately, Dubian would not remember what happened tonight, and she also told the demon that she would treat Dubian as if nothing happened tonight and treat Dubian as before. Neither the demon nor Dubian would have any doubts. Perfect!

As for making the demon mistakenly think that her character was like that...anyway, what he was after was her soul. What her nature was, he probably didn’t care at all. At most, he’d be surprised. It wasn’t like he was a superfan of hers; could this deter him from chasing after her?

If he really became her “antifan,” she would celebrate.

Anna was afraid of being suspected by the demon, so she did not dare to check whether he had left Dubian's body. She closed her eyes, but after laying there for a while, she still couldn't fall asleep. She could only meditate to assist with sleep.

After a night of sleep, the next day had arrived. Anna yawned and turned to look at Dubian.

Dubian smiled and greeted Anna: "Morning, Anna."

Seeing that the demon was gone from Dubian’s body, Anna couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. It seemed that she made the right choice!

Because she knew that the demon must be still watching, Anna didn't make any unusual reactions. She yawned again and replied, "Morning."

"By the way, last night..." Dubian wanted to ask when he had swapped shifts with Anna last night. He didn't seem to have an impression, but Anna only smiled at him.

"We’ve already agreed not to mention it." Anna forcibly stopped Dubian's words, lest he ask something that would cause the demon to be suspicious.

Question marks circled Dubian's head. What did she mean, already agreed not to mention it? Did he sleep so deeply last night that he even forgot what he had said?

Anna didn't give Dubian a chance to continue thinking. She pointed ahead of them and said: "Dubian, let's part ways over there."

There was a fork in the road ahead; one led to the confluence village where Dubian would be meeting  his teacher, and the other led to Black Cloud City.

Dubian was slightly surprised, not caring about the question he had just now, and quickly said: "It will take nearly a day to get to Black Cloud City from here. You may be in danger by yourself. Why don’t I escort you to Black Cloud City?"

If the situation with the demon didn’t happen last night, Anna would of course be willing for Dubian to escort her. She also felt that it would be dangerous to walk alone on the road.

But because of what happened last night, it seemed inappropriate for her to agree to Dubian’s offer. She hoped that Dubian could leave the demon's sight as soon as possible.

"There’s no need." Anna shook her head, "This is far enough from the line of life and death, there will be no demonic creatures, and if it's just ordinary people, I can use spells to scare them away."

As long as one became a one-star wizard, they would be an aristocrat. Ordinary people would  have a sense of awe of the nobleman, and the power of a wizard was far beyond ordinary people. As long as Anna took out her spells, how would ordinary people know whether she was a mage’s disciple or a one-star wizard? As long as she showed a small flame, they would be scared away.

The separation was imminent. Although Dubian originally said that Anna should not follow him and his teacher, it was him who was feeling reluctant in the end.

He originally thought, at least let him walk the last part of the way with her.

Dubian had never been the type of person to force someone against their will. He thought over what Anna had said and it made sense, so he reluctantly smiled and said, "Okay, then."

He paused, remembering the six gold coins, and jokingly said: "Anna, you have to study hard as a mage; I will come to you to collect debts in the future."

"Well, you are welcome to come and collect the debt. I promise to prepare the interest as well!" Anna smiled and received Dubian's joke.

The two walked to the intersection; Dubian went to the left side of the road, and Anna went to the right.

After walking for a while, Dubian couldn't help turning his head back. Anna was in men's clothing, but she did not look like a man. Her long reddish brown hair was tied into a braid for ease of movement, and it swayed as she walked. Underneath the light of the sun, her slender figure disappeared further and further into the distance.

One year...no, at most half a year, he would come to see how Anna was doing.

After Dubian made up his mind, his footsteps became much lighter.
