Chapter 838: What Lies Beneath

Chapter 838: What Lies Beneath

"If you are willing to walk around the village, then that is fine. I will escort you myself." The tall muscular slime replied. He let out a sigh of relief that the people in front of him were willing to give in and not enter the village.

"Then there is no time like the present." Kana said with a smile before starting to walk once more. Ako and Yana quickly followed after her. Kana really did not wish to cause trouble for those who were not on Ako's hit list. She would only move if Ako asked her to. Since Ako was not trying to force her way into the village but was asking for passage, she knew the slimes in front of her were not the enemy.

Kana did not mind if the detour was going to take longer. She was having a nice chat with Yana and Ako as they slowly strolled through the low lying meadow without a care in the world. On the other side, Angelica was currently furrowing her brow. "This fog goes very deep. Rain, what do you think?"

"From the readings you got, my guess would be at least tens of kilometers before we would be able to figure anything out. I can create a void tunnel that will connect back to this point in a straight line. This way, we can enter the fog and not worry about getting lost." Rain answered.

"Then let's do that. Maybe I can get a better reading the further in we are. Handsome Papa, don't lag behind!" Angelica said teasingly. Creige only shook his head and said nothing.

Rain waved her hand, causing the fog to suddenly part. An arched tunnel was formed within it, allowing anyone to walk through it without issue. The group of three did not hesitate to begin walking through the tunnel. But to their surprise, as soon as they entered the tunnel, the side walls of the tunnel became crystal clear. No fog could be seen on the other side. Only a strange black landscape with white eyes peering out of the darkness staring at them.

"What are those?" Angelica asked out loud even though she knew the others would not know either.

"Rain, open a hole here, and I will go check it out." Creige said as he summoned his sword.

"Handsome Papa, I don't think it will be wise to go out there without knowing the actual environment." Rain shook her head, opposed to her Handsome Papa's suggestion. She did not wish to risk her Handsome Papa's life for their curiosity.

"Let me send a soul wisp. I will be able to see what is out there with my mind's eye through the soul wisp." Angelica suggested as she flipped her hand, causing a small bluish ghostly miniature version of herself to appear in her hand. It had no legs and looked very ghost like as he rose up and waved at everyone.

Rain nodded her head and opened a small hole in the void barrier. The soul wisp quickly shot through it before Rian closed it not even a millisecond after. She did not dare leave the hole open for too long since they did not know if the air was poisonous or not. "Everyone feel okay?"

"Fine here." Creige answered.

"Yep, I feel nothing off." Angelica sniffed the air and tapped her body but did not feel sick or anything.

"If you begin feeling sick, let me know. I will use my magic to seal whatever is causing you to be sick and destroy it." Rain was more worried about everyone's health at this point than what was out there. The three all sat down while they waited for Angelica to finish her investigation.

Her wisp flew out into the darkness up in the sky, making sure not to get too close to the things on the ground. She focused her vision and saw that each of the figures did have a soul and body heat making them living creatures. This meant that they were not undead. But she couldn't figure out what they were. She slowly flew lower to try to get a better look.

What she found strange was that even though the things were looking at her, they made no movements or sounds. It was as if they were stuck in place. The lower she got to them, the more she came to realize something very frightening. The beings she was looking at were indeed alive but were frozen in time, or more like hardened in like black stones, making them unrecognizable to what they actually were. They couldn't move at all. Only their eyes could move back and forth.

"Just what is this…." Angelica probed the surroundings when she suddenly realized something that was even scarier than the last. "How is this possible!?"

The small wisps turned and flew at top speed back towards where its main body was. Once it saw the hole in the wall form, it quickly flew back in and slammed back into Angelica's body. Angelica let out a gasp of air as she hugged her body. "Such a thing should never exist…."

""Angelica, what did you see!?"" Creige and Rain yelled out at the same time.

"A massive soul that was bigger than the realm of the dead, the place I lord over. I can't tell its actual size, but it may be even bigger than the entire universe…. The realm of the dead may be big, but its population is always controlled due to people trying to reincarnate. Only a handful of the billions that come there will choose to stay in the city, and that population never exceeds a few million. But this thing. It was as if it had trillions upon trillions of souls all fused together. I could see their faces crying out for help as they swirled around in a big massive ball. This domain was not originally made for the slimes. It was made to contain this thing…. We need to notify Mama quickly. We have to do what we need to do and leave this place. I do not know what exactly that thing is, but it is slowly consuming all the lives that it freezes with in the fog and using it as a means to grow stronger. If I am right, that thing could break free at any time."
