CH 57

Name:No Moral Author:
Realizing too late that he burst into the room without thinking after seeing Yoonshin being shaken by his collar, Sehun let out a hollow laugh. This had never happened in his entire life.

He retorted cynically at Yoonshin, who was waiting for his answer. “Even though you were getting beat up?”

“I didn’t get hit yet. And now that you gave a warning, it’s not going to happen either. This much help is enough. I can do it.”

Sehun made an inexplicably ambiguous face and heavily patted Yoonshin’s shoulder. He seemed to bring himself together through his rough contact. Then, he glared at the other lawyer, who was anxious and at a loss for what to do. He glowered long and hard before turning around. The middle-aged man respectfully bowed, and Sehun left the conference room without looking back.

Upon leaving the room, he stomped irritably to his own office. Secretary Tak wanted to follow him but stopped himself upon seeing that Sehun’s face was different than usual. He could only look down at the mug left behind.

Yoonshin followed Sehun out of the room. To the slim back getting further, he shouted, “Thank you! I’ll wrap things up well. Please take care of yourself as you work. Don’t get sick ag—… Senior Attorney Kang!”

Despite being at a range where he could hear, Sehun didn’t respond. He stomped away and disappeared into his room. Near the secretary office, Secretary Tak and Yoonshin exchanged looks. Secretary Tak said, “Did Attorney Kang say he felt sick?”

“It seemed like his condition wasn’t good for a few days. He said his head hurt. I don’t know if he took any pain medication.”

“Did he happen to say he had a pain in the neck?”

“Yes, and he asked for medication. Since you didn’t know, he must not have taken it. Maybe he’s all right then.”

The secretary’s friendly and sincere eyes pierced through Yoonshin. Then, he smiled kindly and shook his head, indicating that there was no need to worry. Yoonshin felt a bit relieved and asked, “Well, that’s that, but did he say anything about me? He seems to keep watching what I do.”

“For starters, I think you met his standards. You can consider what just happened as an exception.”

“Thank goodness. To be honest, that other lawyer was looking down on me because I didn’t have that many years of experience, so the discussion was going nowhere. I started aggravating him slightly, and he came out like that. In any case, I think the rest will go smoothly since Senior Attorney Kang helped me. I’ll try my best to the end.”

“You’ve pulled a lot more out of Attorney Kang in a few months than what I’ve observed in years.”

“What are you saying all of a sudden?”

“It’s exactly as I said. You’re one type of person that he’s never experienced before, so he doesn’t know how to handle you very well. Really, this is so fun. Please work at our firm for a long time, okay?”

Yoonshin met Secretary Tak’s refreshed eyes before the secretary walked away without further explanation. Yoonshin tilted his head in confusion, attempting to decipher the meaning, but the secretary had already returned to his seat and resumed his work. Left standing alone in the hall, Yoonshin’s eyes inevitably stopped at Sehun’s office.

As he pursed his lips and recounted what Sehun had said back in the room, his cheeks stained pink and twitched.

‘My associate… who I taught?’ Then, his mood quickly deflated. ‘A type of person he’s never seen before…’

Could it be a good thing that the two polar opposites had at least one commonality?

Yoonshin also felt that Sehun was novel. Even though his eyes always chased after the other man, Yoonshin had no idea how to deal with him. He also had no idea why his mind kept straying toward the other.

Maybe Sehun was the same.

For the last time, Yoonshin looked at Sehun’s closed door and took a few deep breaths before returning to the conference room.

In a meeting room of the annex, Yoonshin skimmed through the documents relating to the day’s free consultation clients and fell into thought.

The law regulated the baseline of ethics.

That was one of the important rules of civil law that Yoonshin learned. To say it a different way, the law didn’t prescribe anything more than a modicum of ethics. At times, the world presented several unfair things to people, yet there was no way to help them through civil law. Each time that happened, Yoonshin felt bad about it. This situation reflected in his consultation documents was the same.

“This will probably have to go through litigation. I wonder what the family thinks about it.” After he tapped at the paper with his pen, Yoonshin pressed the intercom, ending his deliberation. “Please let the next client in.”

Not long after, there was a knock and the door opened. Yoonshin got up slightly and gestured to the other person to sit across from him. The client was a man around his late forties to early fifties. He looked like a nice person, but his face had traces of the many troubles he faced in his life.

“You came to talk about your inheritance, correct? I looked through your note. You took care of your aunt until she passed away.”

“Yes, I did. Not her children—but me, her nephew. But she didn’t leave a will in the end, so all her assets went to her children, who she was estranged from the very end. But I was the one who took care of her in her later years, for several years. I was wondering if I could ask for a monetary return for my contribution through a claim for a legal portion of an heir.”

Where should Yoonshin start?
