Chapter 130 Surprise Attack To Desperate Defense

[Vampire Detected]

Wait, what was this now?

Didn't I just kill the vampire?

I looked around.

???

What was this...?

I wasn't in any state to fight a Marquee.

I was just barely able to defeat an Earl.

I just wanted to go back and collect my rewards.

"Oi, did you just kill one of my underlings?"

Underlings...?

Slowly walking towards me was a tall black-haired vampire with a beige-coloured cape. Marquee was the rank above Earl, meaning this vampire is supposed to be even strong than the one I just fought. From what he just said... the vampire I just fought was one of its underlings.

"Hey, you know I can't just let that slide."

I looked at the vampire in shock.

There was no way.

There was no way I could defeat a Marquee.

I placed both of my hands on the grip of [Mayuri-Luc-Ei].

I tried talking to him.

"There are lots of strong soldiers here, I don't think that fighting me would be worth your time."

"Strong soldiers, you say?"

There was a sense of curiosity in his voice.

"Show me some strong soldiers and I'll let you off the hook for killing my underling," he continued.

Ah, I couldn't actually do that...

"You'll have to wait thought, I can't let you inside the wall."

All of a sudden, his expression changed.

"Yeah, I've decided that I'm just going to make you one of my offspring."

Shit.

I drew [Mayuri-Luc-Ei] as fast as I could but he was faster. In a single motion, he grabbed me by the neck and lifted me up off the ground. The collision was so violent that I ended up dropping my weapon on the ground. I went to grab [Tengen-Ko-Rin] with my left hand but he noticed what I was doing and grabbed my arm with his other hand.

"No resisting."

I could hardly breathe.

His grip on my neck was extremely tight.

Ah, is this where it ends?

Is this the beginning of my vampire story?

His arm was completely immovable. It was like trying to pull away a steel bar, there was no chance. There was nothing I could do but watch as the vampire slowly closed in toward my neck.

Ow.

I was sitting on the ground.

For some reason, the vampire had jumped back and let go of me.

There were a few arrows planted on the ground in front of me.

I turned my head to see a group of elves behind me. From what I could tell, they all seemed to be long-distance fighters, I didn't see any with melee weapons. I guess I couldn't just leave this all to them. However, in the middle of the group, I noticed an Elven girl who seemed familiar. She was holding a very large wooden longbow... and as I observed the arrows on the ground, I figured it out.

Ah, well that saves me a lot of time.

I got up and charged toward the vampire. It seemed that he had been struck by an arrow and was trying to pull it out of his body.

[Rank]: Marquee; [Remaining Blood]: 98%

Well, this vampire was certainly much tougher than the other one.

With covering fire from the elves behind me, the vampire struggled to deflect all of my attacks. Arrows rained down on the vampire with uncanny accuracy. It seemed that those elves were incredibly proficient with a bow... well, then again, that was to be expected considering that...

The vampire tried to defend against my attacks but it was much too difficult with all of the arrows constantly stabbing into his body.

Slowly, but surely, he was losing blood.

"Screw this!"

Sensing that he was fighting a losing battle, the vampire turned and began fleeing. I looked back at the elves but it seemed that they weren't going to give chase.

My body wasn't in the best condition either so I decided to make my way over to the group.

"Thanks."

The Elven girl in the middle approached me.

"It's fine, you should go back and rest, we can take care of the rest."

"Are you Elanor?" I asked.

She seemed visibly shocked when I said her name.

"Yes... how do you know my name?"

I thought she'd be quite famous considering her skill, but her name appeared to be somewhat unknown to most.

"Ain, does this boy know you?" one of the other elves asked her.

She suddenly grabbed my arm and pulled me to the side.

"How do you know my name?" she asked.

Ah, I see what was going on here. It seemed that she had a nickname aside from Elanor for whatever reason. Oh well, this would be quite useful to me, if Elrich was to be trusted, her archery talent should be incredible.

"Elrich told me," I simply replied.

"E-e-elrich told you... how did you..." she was in pure shock.

"He stayed with me when he ran away from the village," I said.

"What?! No... um... is he alright...?"

Ah, that was a tricky question to answer. But for the most part, I guess you could say that he was going alright.

"Yeah."

"W-where is he now?"

I looked down at her.

"For several reasons, I can't tell you right now."

"What do you mean...?"

"It's what I said."

"Well, as long as he's still alright... I'm happy."

"Anyways, there are some things I want to discuss with you, are you free tomorrow morning?"

"Eh? Well, I have to lead the archers since we have a military operation tomorrow."

"Surely you can make some time, I'll tell you more about Elrich as well."

"Huh...? Um, well, I guess I can make time... what's your name?"

"It's William."

"Alright then William, where do you want to meet tomorrow?"

"Do you know the cafe near the guild building?"

"Yeah..."

"Meet me there tomorrow, I've got some things that I know you'll want to hear."

With that, I made my way back toward the wall.

I checked the wound on my side and it seemed that the bandage had managed to heal it significantly, although it was still quite sore after the kick. I was walking with a slight limp as a result of it.

Whatever the case, I wanted to get back to the other side and check what rewards I managed to earn from defeating the vampire.
