Chapter 282 Unexpected Welcome

The storm didn't seem to be slowing down at Frono as all the people were locked up inside waiting for it to calm down a bit and that included Dave who was still sitting in one of the seats in Footy Wears' reception area.

He had been quiet for about three minutes with his phone placed against his ear.

"Okay." He muttered before he ended the call and slowly brought his phone down.

There was no doubt about his cheerful mood getting distorted as his face looked a bit gloomy now.

<She didn't sound that upset>

'But she's upset, she just doesn't want to take it out on me over the phone.'

It took about an hour and some minutes before the rain began to slow down and because of that, people slowly began to fill up the streets again but Dave wasn't in a haste to leave.

He raised his watch to his view to see that the time was 5:53 PM before he slowly got up from the seat.

"The next flight's by 6:20 PM, I have to wait for that one." He said with a sigh before he began to make his way toward the exit.

He made his way to the airport, bought a ticket, and made his way to the plane.

He waited there for the other passengers to get in, and once the time for departure was due, the airplane took off.

Since the distance between Unique City and Frono was quite far compared to the distance between other cities, the flight took longer.

Dave arrived at Unique City's airport after two hours, and just as he stepped down from the airplane, he checked his watch to see that the time was 8:27 PM.

After seeing how late it was, he let out a deep sigh before he stuck both of his hands into the pockets of his pants and continued his walk out of the airport.

Normally, he would have just walked home but he decided to take a cab today so that he would get home faster.

Emma was busy watching something in the living room when she heard the door move, but she didn't bother to look as she already knew who it was.

Dave entered the house and slowly closed the door expecting her to look his way and say something but she still had her gaze on the television's screen pretending not to have heard anyone enter the house.

<I don't think she's mad, or else she would be yelling at you now>

'Keep quiet.' The goalkeeper said subconsciously before he slowly began to make his way to her.

"Three cities in Audiz apart from Unique City and Supreme. Um…we have Blossom city, Rojora, and Halo Ville."

That was the goalkeeper's voice and it was coming from the television, she was watching Unique FC's show which he was in along with two of his teammates.

Dave slowly got closer to her, but she didn't even turn to look at him.

'The cold shoulder, huh.' He said subconsciously before sitting down beside her but still, she didn't want to look at me.

"You know, if you don't want to look at me, you should just turn off the television because that's me right there." He said before turning his gaze to the television, but there was no response.

"Hey, I already apologized and I'm doing it again, I'm sorry, my phone was on silent and I didn't realize it until later when I was about to leave." He expressed.

<I can tell you what she's thinking if you want>

'No, don't do that, I want to hear what she will say first.'

"Hey, are you listening to me?" He asked before he grabbed her by her chin and turned her face to him.

She didn't even try to resist and that was when he saw that her eyes were red and looked a bit sore.

"Why are your….Have you been crying?"

"No." She muttered before she forced his hand off her chin and turned back to the television.

"You've been crying."

<Pregnant women get more emotional than they can get when they're their normal selves so yeah, crying isn't ruled out for her when she thinks something bad might have happened to you>

'I just didn't….'

<What>

'This is worse than getting yelled at.'

"Of course, I was crying, what did you expect me to do after calling you several times with no response? After asking all of your teammates that are close to you, after asking Clark? What did you expect me to do? Smile and positively say that you will return from wherever you went when I didn't even know where the heck you went to and they didn't know either!" Her voice was quite shaky as she said that and tears were beginning to form in her eyes now.

'I wasn't able to sense it through the phone call, but it was there, how stupid can I be?'

After thinking of what to say or do, the goalkeeper slowly put his head down.

"I've caused you a lot of pain today, huh.' He said after putting his head down.

"Is that all you have to say!" She yelled before turning away from him.

"No, but please." He said before slowly pulling her into his arms. "Forgive me, I got carried away."

She didn't try to resist him in any way and just melted in his arms with her tears soaking his shirt.

"I'm just glad that you're okay." She mumbled. "I thought something bad might have happened to you and then…"

"Hey," Dave said before closing her mouth with his fingertip. "When I opened that door, I expected you to yell at me or start scolding me, I didn't know you were hurting, I'm so sorry." He expressed before pressing her body closer to his.

"I leave a note for you every morning before going to work although you know where to find me, you should try doing the same or you can just send a text message." She mumbled in her sobbing voice.

"I know, I just wasn't thinking straight when I left."

<She really can't stay mad at you>

"Don't do it again." She muttered.

"I won't, I promise." He said before grabbing hold of her hand and covering it with his hand.

She stayed calm on his body for a while before she cleared her throat and slowly began to get off his body.

"What's the matter?" The goalkeeper asked.

"My throat's a bit dry." She said before placing her hand on her throat.

"Don't worry." He said before quickly getting up from the couch. "I'll get you some water."

She watched him until she disappeared into the kitchen, and that was when a warm smile appeared on her face.

'I know I've made her cry a few times even before we got married but I've never seen her like this.' He said subconsciously opening the freezer to grab a bottle of water.

<Pregnancy hormones>

'No, it's not just that, my carelessness was off the charts today, she was just worried that something bad might have happened to me, that was the way she was supposed to react but I shouldn't have made her react that way.'

<Then do better next time>

'I know.' He replied as he walked to the kitchen cabinet to get a cup. 'Catherine.'

<Yeah>

'Can you sync with my phone and notify me whenever there's something urgent coming up and I happen to be busy.'

<Sure> She said. <Sync completed>

'Thank you.'
