Chapter 162 A Better Father

The season coming to an end meant that the building was going to be scanty but there were a few staff there like the maintenance team who were there to make sure that all the equipment was intact for next season.

The hallway was empty when he entered the building so he went straight for his father's office but when he entered the office, no one was there.

<I guess he isn't here yet>

The goalkeeper didn't say anything and just stared at his desk for a while before turning his gaze to the pictures of past presidents hanging on the wall.

After going through the pictures with his eyes, he turned his gaze to the right side of the room which had the pictures of all the legends of the club hanging on the wall, and among the pictures was the picture of his grandfather.

Most of the pictures were in black and white because they were taken a long time ago in 1985, that was Unique FC's best team in history and almost all the players on that team were considered to be Unique FC's legends

He made his way to his grandfather's picture which was a picture of him holding the Europa league golden glove.

<You don't have much of a resemblance to your father but you have some of his features>

'Yeah.' The goalkeeper said subconsciously as he got closer to the picture. 'He was my inspiration, too bad I couldn't get to see him.'

<But he saw you>

'I was only a year old when he passed away so I don't really remember meeting him.'

After looking at the picture of his grandfather for a while, he looked at the pictures of all the recognized legends in the team, after that he turned his gaze to the other side of the wall to see the current team pictures that were from 2015 till date but there was a team picture there that wasn't a picture taken in the twenty-first century and dated way back to 1985, it was the picture of the best team in Unique FC's history so it had to be there.

After scanning all the team pictures with his eyes, he turned his gaze to the trophy cabinet a little to the right behind his father's seat.

He slowly made his way to the tall cabinet which had only two trophies at the top, these trophies were very special to the club as they were the only European trophies that the club had ever won.

The UEFA Europa League trophy and the UEFA super cup trophy, that season went down as the best season in Unique FC's history. Winning the super cup the next season was a very special moment for the club as they held down a star-studded AC Milan side to a goalless draw and then went on to beat them on penalty shootouts all thanks to the heroics of Devon Richards who kept out AC Milan's first three kicks and secured the win for his team.

Below those two were the fifteen Bilbeth Premier League trophies that Unique FC had won throughout its history, the league trophy had a resemblance to the champions league trophy, the only difference was that it was shorter, gold-colored, and didn't have hands.

And in the last cabinet were all the league cups and other trophies Unique FC had won throughout its history which consisted of twenty Bilbeth Super Cup trophies.

Despite being a weak team for the past decade, Unique FC was the second-best team when it came to competing for the super cup. The best team in the competition was Supreme United which had twenty-three trophies overall, it was nice how two teams from the same state were dominating the competition.

While Dave was still looking at all the trophies in the cabinet, the door was pulled open for Tom to enter the room with a single-hand crutch in his right hand.

"I see you're already here." He said, causing Dave to quickly turn his gaze to him.

Dave didn't say anything and just watched as he made his way to his seat and sat down there.

"You could take a seat or you could just stand there." He said.

Dave didn't say anything and just stared at his right leg which had bandages wrapped around it for a while before he made his way to one of the seats up front and sat there.

"How's your leg?" The goalkeeper asked.

"It's healing just fine, I'm just lucky that the fractures weren't that serious."

"Okay."

"So, what did you want to talk about?"

"I thought you said you knew what I wanted to talk about," Dave said.

"Yeah, but I still want you to say it."

Dave didn't reply immediately and just stared at him for a while before taking in a deep breath.

"I heard you guys are planning to send me out on a loan transfer to Benfica." He said.

"There you go using that tone on me again even when I'm trying to be nice," Tom said before letting out a sigh. "Firstly, Benfica submitted a loan transfer deal for you and we haven't made any decision on it yet so I don't think it's right to say that we're planning to loan you out."

"But you're considering it."

"Of course, we're considering it, why won't we? That money will help in clearing the club's debts and we were going to try and get feedback from you but I guess that's what I'm doing now." Tom explained.

"So, what type of feedback do you want?" The goalkeeper asked.

"Just one."

"One?"

"Yeah."

"And what is that?"

"Do you want to leave?" He asked. "If you ask me, I would tell you to go because something like this will help you to gain more experience but it's all up to you."

"It's all up to me?" Dave said with a stunned look on his face.

"Yeah, if you want to go, I'll agree to the deal and everything will be taken care of but if you want to stay then there's no problem about that, after all, you are an important part of the team now."

"You will just say yes if I tell you that I want to stay?" The goalkeeper was still finding it hard to believe what he was hearing right now.

"Yeah," Tom said with a nod.

"Are you doing this because Clark asked?" He asked.

"Clark started by beating around the bush like he always does whenever he wants to get something for you so I figured out what it was and told him to tell you to call me so technically, he didn't ask me for anything," Tom said.

After saying that, Dave just stared at him as he didn't know what to say.

"Well, you still haven't made your choice."

"Why are you doing this?" The goalkeeper asked.

Tom didn't reply to that question immediately as he stared at him for a while before he slowly brought down both of his hands on the table.

"Because I'm your father and I should have acted like one a long time ago."
