Chapter 106.2. Kamakura

-Mashiro’s POV-

“It’s too early for the guerrilla team, Vice Admiral. If anything, the guerrilla team may catch a large group of monsters. In that case, the base guards will be sent into battle, and there will be no small amount of confusion. We’ll recruit the rest.”

“Ha! Understood.”

He nodded in agreement to the Admiral’s revised proposal, because it was based on his experience, and returned the salute with a pithy salute.

“If you’re going to form a guerrilla team, take me with you, Mashiro-aniki!”

With a zwick, the large man leans forward and vigorously taps Mashiro on the shoulder. Mashiro chuckles and turns to face the man.

“Was this your first battle, Nagamasa-kun?”

“No, I’ve already conquered several dungeons, and this ain’t my first battle. I’ve killed a large number of monsters, too.”

The one who smacked his thick chest plate with a thud and smiled with his jaw set confidently was Gengami Nagamasa.

He’s the second prince of the royal family, a boy who will turn 14 this year, but he has grown remarkably, standing nearly 2 meters tall.

“I know your magic. I know you’re invincible, but you mustn’t let your guard down. There are no absolutes in combat. Besides, isn’t this your first long-term assignment? Mashiro-kun, you had experience in England, didn’t you?”

“Yes, for a maximum of two months.”

“Yes, a few days is the best, but a few days or a few months won’t make any difference. I have an inexhaustible supply of energy!”

The Admiral gives him a sharp look, but Nagamasa, oblivious to his gaze, laughs gaily. Mashiro notices Nagamasa and smiles weakly with a tahaha.

“You are young. Nagamasa, do you understand the meaning of the Emperor’s taking time off from school to include you in this mission?”

“It’s a foil, right? He added you to this mission to lead the army in the future! Isn’t that what Mashiro-aniki did? You’re suddenly been appointed vice-admiral for this operation. Then I’ve got to play an active role, you know.”

The old admiral is impressed by Nagamasa’s honest answer, which shows that he’s an honest warrior, not unlike a member of the royal family. But he also decides he must correct his young, shortsighted thinking.

“Yes, there will be a foil. But long-term assignments like this are rare. It’s a kindness from the Emperor to you, to give you a valuable experience.”

“Anyway, we’re just going to defeat the monsters? I don’t think it will be difficult.”

“No, this time our mission is to investigate the current situation in Tokyo and, if possible, to welcome the druids who have settled here as our subjects. Negotiations between people are very difficult. If possible, I would like to avoid the use of force.”

Nagamasa scratches his chin as Mashiro interjects with a serious face.

“That’s why I’m here. It’s not for me to let you play around as a guerrilla team, Nagamasa-kun.”

Nagamasa is intimidated by the Admiral’s smile, which is so awesome that he bows his head.

“Besides, this time you’re the deputy commander of the security forces. What are you doing on the bridge, sir?”

“That’s, uh, you know, ……. I wanted to know what was going on too. ……”

Nagamasa shrugs his large frame, interlacing his fingers and looking awkward. He can tell it’s a bad development, and cold sweat drips from his forehead.

“Then go back to your post! You shouldn’t be selling oil in a place like this!”

“Understood, sir! Gengami Nagamasa, I’m returning to my post!”

After saluting, Nagamasa left the bridge as if fleeing in a flurry of footsteps.

The Admiral laughed and turned to look at him.

“He’s young. At that age. Maybe he thinks it’s a field trip.”

“The Admiral doesn’t give Nagamasa-kun special treatment, does he?”

“I don’t want to give him special treatment here and help him make a fool of himself in the future. He’d be the head of the military or the warriors. No, the military. And Duke Kanna’s army is out of the picture for this operation.”

The old admiral knows what that means. What it means is that Gengami Nagamasa will be the head of the army.

He would be trying to keep Duke Kanna from the seat of power. He also had his thoughts about this mission, saying.

“No one knows what the future holds. Let’s put it that way. Hmmm?”

Mashiro smiles and is surprised when the bracelet on his arm trembles.

“Hmm? Is it a transmission?”

“Yeah, it’s amazing what thought communication can send so far… Who is it? May I confirm?”

Even though it was thought communication, he hadn’t told anyone he was here, and it was hard to believe that anyone other than the warriors or his people could fly to this place without a repeater.

“Oh, I’m a little curious myself. Who is it from?”

“Let’s see, ……… I know someone from the Magic Tower.”

“The Magic Tower? Did you fly all the way here from there?”

“Yes, she’s only 10 years old, but she has tremendous talent. For some reason, she misses me very much. And she contacted and asked me if she could come to Japan for the summer vacation.”

Operating her bracelet with a beep, Mashiro confirms the contents of the thought communication and smiles.

“She surely has tremendous ability …… to send a thought communication just for that.”

The Admiral and Mashiro laugh at each other.

“Hmm, Yamiyo is here, so I wonder if it’s okay. [I’m not here, but if you don’t mind]………Reply.”

“What a lovely girlfriend. Well then, let’s pull ourselves together and start building a base.”

“Yes, we’ll move on to building the base as quickly as possible.”

And so, the battalion of warriors that Mashiro and the others had joined started to make a base in Kamakura.
