Chapter 179 Candice’s Past

Name:MMORPG: Crowd Control Author:Idczhen
After giving Howard a subtle warning to never do things without his permission first, Lei Zhen was now chatting with Candice, trying to get an understanding of her background.

Originally, he wouldn't have bothered with her but now that fate decided to bring Candice to him in the end.

It was now his responsibility to understand her and enquired how she ended up being traded in a slave market.

"So Candice, you're a high elf, right? So why did you end up being captured?" Lei Zhen asked straightforwardly.

There was no point in beating around the bushes.

Candice placed down her pen temporarily and turned around. Her head was a bit lowered since she knew what her status was.

"I forgot to remind you, but I hate talking to people who don't look me in the eyes. So if you keep your head lowered like that, then I believe you are looking down at me and taunting me." Lei Zhen warned.

Although it wasn't the truth, he did it so that Candice wouldn't treat him as a slave owner or master.

Of course, that would probably take a long time to get used to it, but at the very minimum, she would talk with him like any normal person would.

And with that command, Candice stopped lowering her head and stared at Lei Zhen directly.

At the same time, Lei Zhen also took out his mask, revealing his facial appearance. Since Candice was his slave, he wasn't afraid of her betraying especially with the slave collar active on her neck.

He had also checked the system to make sure Howard's words were the truth.

After all, you can't just blindly believe everything you hear or see.

One must always double-check the facts to verify them. Otherwise, there would be no place for regrets when one places their trust in the wrong person.

And with the system officially stating that Candice was a slave under his control, Lei Zhen was finally reassured that she wouldn't dare to try to stab him in the back.

Hence, now he was merely trying to enquire about her circumstances and the possibilities of a new storyline to explore.

Missions or quests don't come to you in a silver spoon at Magnolia. One had to actively seek it from the NPC if they wanted to do some amazing missions.

It was also the main reason why Magnolia is so attractive because players have to struggle a lot to get to where they are now.

A few minutes had passed by when Candice remained silent at the question of Lei Zhen.

Based on her complicated expression, it was safe to say that the experience wasn't a pleasant one to say.

"We can stay here all day, but I would still wait for the answer, Candice." Lei Zhen said softly, reminding her that there is no point in trying to keep a secret.

After all, Candice's identity was special and different from the crewmen working on the ship.

Candice nodded her head and began to tell her story.

"I'm from a tribe in Luminous and it was a peaceful tribe that was in touch with nature. My family and the other members of the tribe would usually go out to hunt for food. Until one day, when humans suddenly breached the security formation laid by our ancestors. They burn our tribe and destroy everything, capturing every high elf they see."

"Is there a reason why those humans decided to invade your tribe?"

"No… we didn't even go to the outside world much and hardly offend others. The humans simply invaded without a single word and ravaged whatever was in sight."

While saying that, Candice's hands were slowly forming a fist, clenching it tightly.

Seeing that she was writhing in pain, Lei Zhen decided to pause for now and keep this information into account.

"You can stop for now and resume your work. Although I'm a human as well, you should know there are bad and good humans. Thus, make sure to not lump all humans into one group with your grudges." He kindly advised her and left the Control Room.

As for Candice, she was silently wiping out some tears from her eyes because of the painful memories she had to recall.

Nevertheless, she didn't blame Lei Zhen for asking her such a question.

The unknown is always a dangerous thing, so it was natural for Lei Zhen to want to know her background more considering her identity as a high elf.

Sometime later, Lei Zhen met up with Howard and proceeded to leave the ship.

"Let's go, Howard. Today's the official crowning ceremony of Princess Kate to ascend as queen." Lei Zhen commanded.

He had been waiting in Yors Castle because he wanted to see Kate ascend.

The preparation and the diplomatic people had finally arrived, so it was about time the Yors Castle was gusher into a new era soon.

"During the crowning ceremony, Princess Kate would receive the crown from King Francis. At that time, she would give a speech about her coronation and honorary badges to people she believed they deserve."

And with that said, Howard stared deeply at Lei Zhen from top to bottom.

"No offense, Chancellor, but I believe you'll need to have a change of clothes to a much more formal and brighter one." He added, showing a disapproving look at Lei Zhen's outfit.

Lei Zhen glanced at his own outfit and didn't find it to be as bad as Howard proclaimed.

However, he wouldn't outright ignore the judgment of an experienced guard like Howard, who had served the royal family for quite some years already.

"Well, if you think I should get a change of clothes, then we should hurry up. It would be bad if Kate starts throwing a tantrum at my late arrival and bug me to no end." Lei Zhen joked and requested the carriage driver to hasten its speed.
