Chapter 226 The Last Straw

POV ???:

Crowds mingled on the streets cold streets. Children were laughing, and traders were loudly announcing their offers.

A massive shadow passed through the streets, something blocking the sunlight.

All of the people on the streets stopped what they were doing and turned their heads towards the sky as a massive ship flew above them. Its hull threw shadows over the streets while blinding everyone who looked at it with the reflected sunlight.

"Ohhh, no, this again." the people turned back, running into their homes as if their lives depended on it. The shutters on windows closed with the doors creaking in their hinges as they closed.

Everyone already knew what was going to happen. They were going to attack the wyrm and potentially awaken a new and colossal conflict that would sweep through their town.

Multiple smaller ships followed right after, their hulls not even close to being as imposing. They looked much cheaper, lacking the thick metallic armour.

The ships evenly spread, forming a fan-like shape, all of them slowly sailing towards the imposing black tower on the horizon. The massive metal rods under their hulls glowed with energy surging through them.

"Graaah!" a loud roar shook the land, the windows ringing and all dogs barking in fear.

The silence fell upon the streets of the town. No one dared to even peep.

The rods under the ships glowed even brighter and then, even more, brighter with immense energy flowing through them.

Blinding blue flashes of light flashed across the sky, each and every one of them so bright that it outshined even lightning bolts during a storm.

Massive energy charges exploded out of the rods, looking like bright blue comets. They shot straight towards the clouds-covered black tower on the horizon, drawing blue lines on the winter sky.

Loud bangs shook roofs with powerful shockwaves sweeping through the lands and rising thick clouds of ash, dust and snow. The blue charges of pure mana hit the tower near its roof, exploding in blinding explosions of mana and light.

The tower shook, massive cracks spreading through its black walls all the way from the roof to its base. Giant boulders started to fall down, the whole tower crumbling and turning into rubble.

The dark clouds around the tower parted away, swept out of the way by the powerful shockwaves.

A furious and cold voice spoke. It was so loud that everyone could hear it. "Now, you have done it, mortals! I wanted to be merciful, but you have come to my home without invitation and vandalised it!" The rage contained within it sent shudders down everyone's spines.

POV Captain Anaphoras:

The captain stood on top of his massive warship in his blue cloak and shining armour, watching in satisfaction as the tower crumbled through his magical monocle. The crewmen around him loudly cheered as they watched dust clouds rise from the rubble.

'How could these draconic brutes compete against human ingenuity?'

He even wanted to laugh at the plain threats of the wyrm.

'As if it could do anything. It couldn't even protect its tower.'

Suddenly a large shadow rose out of the dust clouds. The bright blue light radiating out of it felt so unnatural. The two golden glowing orbs ignited in the dust, looking straight into the captain's eyes. He froze on the spot, all of his confidence vanishing.

But he immediately woke up out of his shock, "What are you waiting for? Shoot again!"

The glow of mana rods under their ships started to intensify again, all of the ships turning towards the wyrm obscured by the dust.

POV Vesuvius:

The dragon rose high into the sky, his eyes glowing with immense rage. He already expected an attack on him, but this went far beyond what he expected.

His armour was cracked, the energy in his scales still turbulent, with pieces of it crumbling and turning into dust. The blue, glowing magma leaked out of his body, raining upon the ground and loudly hissing.

The scales and broken crystals on his body slowly regenerated, regrowing and reforming with the stabbing pain all over his body.

He already planned to abandon his tower, but it was too much for some mortals to come and destroy it. This was too much even for him. He could only feel rage and pain from his injuries.

The lights flashed all over the white snow-covered ground, and hundreds of physical and magical projectiles launched at him, swarming the whole sky. He expected this when he detected mortals building their contraptions around his territory, not a small fleet of skyships.

The shock and surprise of the massive skyships appearing were still vivid, his heart still loudly beating, 'Someone really wants me dead to send a fleet of skyships. Someone powerful.'

He flapped his still-tattered wings and shot forwards, the clouds already whirling and gathering around him. The explosion sent ripples through the air as he accelerated, even more, hundreds of glowing projectiles passing by him like during new year celebrations.

The few hit him, exploding all over him, creating even more cracks in his armour. He just refused to acknowledge that mortals tricked him. He was too angry about it.

The sky kept darkening, with more and more clouds of dark smoke rising out of his body, slowly obscuring the sun.

The massive blue rods on the skyships far on the horizon glowed again, the vibrations of intense magical energy reaching all the way to him. He felt immense power coming out of each of them.

He opened his mouth. A doubled square split into four started to form in his mouth, followed by a beautiful shiny four-pointed star. The warmth of mana flowed through his body into his glands and magical circuits.

He was determined to shoot them down first.

The glow of the rods intensified even more and more, the vibrations of mana becoming more and more rapid. He focused, even more, hastening the flow of mana. The bright blue flames erupted out of his throat, flooding into his mouth and the magical circuits.

At the same time, the blue light flooded the sky, the magical vibrations reaching their peak. He felt it. Immense waves of energy were moving towards him at neck-breaking speeds.
