Chapter 49. [The Test’s Ultra C]

How did I pass the junior high school entrance examination? To explain this, I have to start with the newest educational policy.

As I mentioned in the “Quiz Project,” the Courses of Study have changed in recent years.

As a result, English and programming classes became compulsory in elementary schools.

The purpose is probably to develop human resources in the information field that we can use globally.

That’s also get manifested in the “GIGA School Concept”.

The GIGA School Concept means “individual optimization” and “development of ICT educational environment. Let’s provide each student with a computer to receive a personalized education. Let’s create an environment where students can learn programming and other subjects globally.

And I was in the “borderline” year when the Courses of Study changed in such a way.

In other words, what does that mean?

From this year’s entrance exams, The English entrance examinations have been in full swing.

That’s why this year is called “the first year of lifting the ban on English entrance exams”.

There have been schools that have accepted English entrance examinations in the past.

However, only a few schools accepted the entrance examination in English only.

…………… Yes, this is my ultra C.

I was the only one who could use this trick. In this case, I should say it was a backdoor.

—I had taken the entrance exam with only one subject, English.

From the beginning, I bet everything on English alone.

That’s the reason why I said by any means necessary. That’s why I said I could pass the exam with minimal study.

That’s why I could pass the exam even though I was sick and my score on the second day was not good.

“It would be hard not to pass the exam with such cheat-like abilities.”

Well, I was indeed in a hurry when I fell ill.

I didn’t expect that I wouldn’t be able to take the exam in the first place.

I checked the printouts I had received from the school.

There were scores for five subjects, three subjects, and one subject, as well as rankings for each subject.

This time, I had taken a combination of subjects.

The test I got was based on the subjects with the highest scores’ combination.

In my case, it made no difference whether I took the test or not, except for one subject, English.

Still, I took all five subjects, which was a bad idea.

“Well, this is how it’s supposed to be.”

If I had been another grade higher, it’s doubtful I would have passed.

A difficult junior high school that happened to be within walking distance from my house happened to expand its English entrance exam window this year, and I happened to be allowed to take only one English subject.  I would not have had such good luck.

That’s also why I have narrowed down the number of schools I will be taking the exam.

This was the only school that allowed English entrance examinations.

“I mean, mom knew I could speak English, right? There’s no way I could fail if I only took one subject.”

“Well~! Even so, you don’t know if you’ll pass~!”

I raised the volume of my voice and spoke to my mom in the kitchen.

She was still crying.

From the kitchen, I could hear the sounds of something boiling, and getting chopped.

My mom was excitedly saying, “I’m going to make a feast for the celebration today”.

“Well, I guess I’m not so bad after all.”

I tossed the printout of my grades on the table.

Then I turned to the kitchen to help my mother.

The printout read.

Examination for 5 subjects (Japanese, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, English) —– Failed

3 subject tests (Japanese, Mathematics, English) —– “Passed”

English Exam (Writing, Listening, Interview) —– Passed (Special A)

Japanese and Math are allocated more for the 3-subject examination.

The English score was a combination that shouldn’t have been taken into account.

“So, Iroha-chan—”

“””Congratulations on passing!”””

“Thank you.”

After that, Mai and Ah-nee came to our house with a cake.

The four of us decided to have a party together with my mom’s home-cooked food.

“Iroha-chan….. I’m really glad~. Congratulations~, congratulations~!”

“Mai, it’s okay to cry, but don’t get your snot on my clothes.”

“Heh heh heh, well, I raised Iroha-chan, didn’t I? It’s only natural that you should pass the test! How’s that Kit Katz working out for you?”

“Oh, I forgot to eat it..”

“Gah!”

“Hmmm… …. That’s what happens when you try to run away from the game, onee-chan~! ……. Gyaaaa~~!? I’m sorry I got carried away, so please forgive me~!?”

Mai screamed as she was head locked by Ah-nee.

It gets so noisy so fast when the two of them are around.

I used to find this kind of thing annoying.

Now, I don’t hate it.

—-I wish this kind of daily life could go on forever.

I even think like that.

And then, Ah-nee whispered as if she could see through the voice in my heart.

“But now Iroha-chan has already graduated. Time flies, doesn’t it?”

“”—– !””

I turned my attention to Mai.

Mai was looking at me in the same way.

I was so excited that I had decided to take the entrance exam for the school, which meant that Mai and I would get separated in junior high school.

When I first decided to take the entrance exam, I didn’t care about that.

But now…

“Hey, everyone, it’s time to eat cake…”

My mom brings a cake from the refrigerator.

The cake was the most bitter cake I had ever eaten.
