[Knight Abel’s Feelings]

This flow of events… also happened in the original storyline.

A unit led by Mr. Abel encountered a strong monster and they fell into a predicament.

But in the original storyline, Raul and Tayte, having received a message from Holy Knight Klaus, came to help and turned the tables.

The enemy was slain by Raul’s Demon Sword.

That was the flow of events supposed to be if I remembered correctly.

After that, Raul’s reputation within the Order of Knights soared.

Annoyed by it, the original Barrett acted recklessly during his dungeon exploration with Mr. Abel to gain the glory of conquering the dungeon, resulting in Mr. Abel’s death, which in turn made his relationship with Reina irreparable.

…In any case, wasn’t this too early?

Raul became an apprentice to Mr. Klaus during his student days, which led him to interact with the Order of Knights. From then on, rumors about the great power of the Demon Sword began to spread slowly, but subjugating the monster attacking Mr. Abel and his unit made his reputation blow up in an instant.

But anyway, if my guess was correct, the monster that we would be encountering would be quite tough. Raul was able to take it down in the original storyline, but I was not sure if I could do the same… I was a little worried.

――However, my worry turned out unfounded as we didn’t even find any track of a monster.

“…It seems that it was a false alarm,” Mr. Abel remarked.

“So it seems,” I nodded.

“With that rumor going around, I thought we’d really find something… but glad nothing turned up.”

“Rumor?”

When I echoed with a questioning tone, Mr. Abel covered his mouth with an “Oh, crap!” face.

…But the cat was already out of the bag.

“Mr. Abel…”

“Ah, well, it’s just your usual rumor. Word is, there may be a scary monster around here.”

“S-scary monster, is it…?” Tayte’s expression darkened.

Seeing that, Mr. Abel immediately followed up, “It’s just a baseless rumor, and the credibility is questionable. In truth… our assignment here was half-meant as a vacation.”

“Huh? Is that true?” Tayte tilted her head.

“Yeah. To tell you the truth, I invited Reina so that we can spend time together while I’m here since we don’t see each other very often.”

I see.

Mr. Abel wanted to take this opportunity to close the distance between him and Reina.

His only miscalculation—though, that might not be the right word—was that his worry was needless, as Reina was already madly in love with him, in the first place.

“Sorry for making you worry for no reason,” Mr. Abel apologized.

“N-No, it’s not a problem…” Tayte waved her hands.

I’d been wondering why someone as talented as Mr. Abel was guarding such a peaceful rural town. I’d even suspected that he got demoted.

But as it turned out, he’d received an officially-approved vacation to flirt with his fiancée under the pretext of guard duty.

It also served as a nice change of pace for the other knights after long expeditions. I honestly didn’t expect the Order of Knights to be so considerate.

“When we get back, I plan to go on a date with Reina. There’s a nice scenic spot nearby.” Mr. Abel smiled.

“Oh, can you tell us where it is?” I asked, piqued.

“Yes, please! Ah, of course, we won’t disturb you and Reina!” Tayte said excitedly.

“Hahaha! I’ll appreciate it! …I’m truly glad you guys are my brother and sister-in-law.” Mr. Abel spoke seriously.

But if he said so…

“I’m also really happy that you, Mr. Abel, are Reina’s fiancé—my brother-in-law,” I said.

“Of course, so am I,” Tayte nodded.

“Hehe, it made me happy to hear that, but it’s kind of embarrassing,” Mr. Abel smiled.

It was when we were about to head back in the middle of the peaceful atmosphere.

Riding on the refreshing breeze, an ominous presence caressed our cheeks.

“““?!”””

Tayte, Mr. Abel, and I looked around to search for the presence.

But there was nothing—but no sooner had I thought that than Tayte, looking up at the sky, screamed.

“Barrett! Mr. Abel!”

In response, we also turned our gaze to the sky.

The enemy… was fluttering gracefully in the air, heading toward us.
