“We’ll take the first watch today.”

“I understand.”

Today I changed the order of the watch from yesterday. It may not mean anything, but some people may prefer to be first and some may prefer to be last.

“I’ll take a break first.”

“Oh.”

Sophie and Shana went into the tent.

“I’ll take the watch then, we’ll probably be busy, so please take care of me.”

“Busy… you don’t think those monsters from the day are going to show up, do you?”

“No, I don’t think so.”

Even near the wall, Elira gave me a troublesome look when she heard that the guards would be busy. It would be troublesome to deal with those monsters of the daytime on such a pitch-dark night. But the monsters that appear are not them.

“The monsters that appear at night are different from those that appear in the daytime. Most of the monsters that will appear are zombie skeletons, skeleton zombies and undead.”

“Wow…”

“Ah…”

By the way, the difference between zombie skeletons and skeleton zombies is that the former are skeletons with a little flesh and the latter are zombies with a little bone. In other words, there is little difference.

The two looked bitter when they heard about the monsters that would appear.

This is because undead monsters cannot be defeated by physical attacks. They can only be defeated by fire magic, light magic, or holy magic. That’s why they are highly ranked for their status.

Furthermore, when one is attacked by zombies, poison can be passed through their bodies. Of course, the poison can be cured with recovery magic. However, if the poison is left untreated and the person dies, he or she will be the next one to become an undead.

But these two are not the reasons why the undead are hated the most.

“Ugh…I can already smell it… My nose hurts…”

The reason they are hated the most is because of their strong smell. Most of the reasons why people are killed by the undead are due to the smell, which makes it difficult for them to concentrate. Carina is a beast, so she can sense the smell that we can’t yet.

“Yug, ready.”

“Yes.”

“”Barrier.””

I used my spirit magic to put up a little glowing barrier over us.

“Ah, the smell is gone.”

“If you can do such a useful thing, you should have told me sooner.”

“The barrier isn’t very strong, by the way. If too many undead bang on it, it will crack, so please attack.”

“Eh?”

I’m not that good at putting up barriers. If anything, Sophie is better at barrier magic. I can only block the smell and keep the undead out. I can’t use barriers to damage the undead. So we have to defeat the undead that gather in front of the barrier by ourselves.

Moreover, since the barrier is a little shiny, the more conspicuous the barrier is, the more monsters will come close to them. We can earn more experience this way. Of course, when Sophie and I came together, we kept the barrier colorless and transparent so as not to stand out. That’s why few monsters came.

“Oh, um…what should I do?”

Carina cannot use magic. Rather, most of the beastmen cannot use magic. But they can use magic in a very small number of cases. I have a feeling that Carina can use magic too…

“Well then, use this to slay the monsters that approach the barrier at least three times. We’ll take down the first one we slay.”

“Okay!”

I handed Carina an ordinary sword that I had bought at the time of the shopping spree in the magic ring. This will give Carina some experience when she defeats the undead. In addition, Carina herself would move around quite a bit and attack many times, so her status would also go up by the maximum amount.

“Ah, yes. You should observe the monsters carefully when you slay them.”

“Huh? Yes. I understand.”

I said this in the hope that it would awaken some kind of magical eye-like power. Well, it won’t have much effect, but it’s better than nothing.

“That’s what I’m saying, so Elira, take care too.”

“I understand.”

Thus, we slashed the monsters that gathered in our barrier and Carina slashed them, and before they could regenerate, we finished them off.

“Ugh……”

“Keep it up.”

Carina was about to cry because of the sword that got more stinky with each slash and the undead that were becoming more and more numerous. The sword inevitably goes outside the barrier when slashing. That’s why it smells of undead. Furthermore, the closer it gets to midnight, the more of them there are. I clean the sword with magic every 10 minutes.

Incidentally, the wraiths that appear from time to time are completely ineffective against physical attacks, so we defeat them with magic before they notice Carina.

“I’m tired…”

“Good job.”

“You did your best.”

Carina was working so hard that even Elira was honest enough to praise her. She had done it until it was time for the others to take over.

“Did it appear, Nii-sama?”

“No, it didn’t.”

“I’m glad.”

There was one time when we were both here, me and Sophie, and even though I was asleep, the high speed crisis reacted and I jumped out of bed. The cause of that is still unknown. We don’t even know if it was a monster, a demon tribe, or something else.

When Sophie said, “It appeared,” she was referring to the cause.

“Good night.”

“Good night.”

After I saw that Sophie had put up barriers similar to mine, I released the barrier and went inside the tent. The tent was lined up the same as yesterday, but I got used to it, or maybe I was just tired, I fell asleep more quickly than yesterday.
