Chapter 8-11. Planning the Defense

Several hours after heading out to investigate.

I’ve grasped most of the surrounding terrain, etc., and checked to see if there are any magic crystals buried using land spirits.

Now we’re gathering at Satella’s mansion to discuss what we’re going to do.

From what I could find out, not a single magic crystal was buried.

Due to the evolution, the amount of soil that can be moved and the area that can be examined have increased, and I was able to survey the entire Bamil territory.

The accuracy had also improved to a certain degree, and it was possible to identify creatures in the soil.

Nonetheless, there were no magic crystals or anything else of concern.

Since not many days had passed since the attack on the Kingdom of Salettana, they had probably not made any preliminary preparations.

Perhaps they were just a little too prepared at that time.

Since the Bamil territory is just beginning to rebuild, they may have assumed that the defense facilities were not yet in good shape.

Could it be that the other side can afford to do so? ……

“There is one thing I have to tell you before we discuss the matter. ……”

Satella looked a little serious and said so.

It was unusual for Satella to have this kind of expression on her face.

Varadim thought so too, and looked a little surprised and worried.

Everyone listened to what Satella was going to say next.

“The devil was here.”

“”What?!””

The devil was here!? At this moment?!

Why would the devil need to come to this Bamil territory just now?

The only people who know that the devil is coming are the people in this territory.

Since they didn’t have that information, I thought they were high on the idea that they could surprise us.

However, if the devil is here, the chance is high that the ambush will be meaningless.

With the appearance of the devil’s presence, the people of the territory should be on their alert.

……So they didn’t intend to ambush us?

“What happened to that devil?!”

“Ah, um, Alena fought it briefly, and then it fled. But …… he went on to declare war on us ……”

According to Satella’s story, when she and Alena shared information with the local people that the devil was going to attack their territory, suddenly a small devil appeared behind Alena, who was floating.

Then he declared war.

The contents of the declaration were strange: if they escaped, they would not be killed, if they did not escape, they would be killed. (TLN: This part is changed in chapter 337)

Furthermore, they said that they would destroy the city whether they escaped or not.

This is something that seems to be very necessary, and it seems that even if they don’t take all the lives, they will definitely do something about the damage.

Hearing this, Alena immediately used her skills to finish off the devil.

The three locals tacked the demon to the ground and tried to beat it to a pulp. ……

“The heavy weight worked once. Then they all hit him while I was in the air,…… and then they were blown away by …… some weird skill, and the heavy weight I was applying was also bounced off of it, and then the heavy weight was on me. The skill he used was called reversal.”

“Reversal ……? That’s a skill that is very obvious when written in kanji.”

“It’s most likely a counter skill …….”

Judging from Alena’s story, it’s probably a skill that repels the attacks and skills that you received and returns them to the attacker and the caster.

Alena’s heavy weight was placed on her.

There is probably no mistake.

Perhaps all the physical attacks were counter-attacked, and those three villagers were blown to bits.

I really wonder why the devil has such troublesome skills.

How can I attack it?

“But you see…. That makes Alena too much of a bad match for that devil.”

“Yeah. ……”

Alena’s skill to stop the opponent’s movement with her skill is a very bad match for her.

If you want to defeat that kind of opponent, it would be best to aim for suffocation or pressure kill.

Though I can’t say for sure since I haven’t seen the opponent’s fighting ability.

“Perhaps I can handle that kind of opponent. If the devil dies, there is a possibility that even the attack will be returned.”

“I see. You’re unable to die, aren’t you?

“Exactly. Although I don’t like pain, I would be the right person for the job.”

That possibility is certainly undeniable.

If it is Houen that has no problem at all dying, he can survive even if he is hit by his own attack.

He would be a little boy again, but not to die would be really convenient.

At any rate, the countermeasure for that devil has been decided.

The next step is to set up a defensive facility.

Since we don’t know what kind of force the opponent will come up with, we have no choice but to predict and make it up as we go along. ……

“The enemy comes from the air and the enemy comes from the land. We have to consider them.”

Everybody present nodded in agreement with Varadim’s statement.

Broadly speaking, they would be divided into these two categories, but the land-based ones are not a particular problem, he said.

The soldiers I have just summoned are my direct subordinates. They are capable of command, so they will not be outdone in the ground battle.

The demons’ reinforcements will be coming, too. The ground forces will not be a problem. What about facilities?

There are many people who can use earth magic. It is also possible to make moats and other structures on the spot, so they can be used without problems even during battle.

“So it is a matter of being flexible depending on the situation at the time?

If that is the case, then there is no need to go to the trouble of making any predictions.

Instead, we need to spread out our forces.

We don’t know which direction the enemy will come from.

The strength will be reduced, and it will take time for the enemy to converge in the direction from which they are coming.

Regardless of how quickly we discover the enemy, it takes a considerable amount of time to move.

We have no way to counter this on our own, but …….

“This is just a guess, but aren’t the Oni different?”

“A- …… ah, I see. I see what you mean.”

Indeed, the Oni have different physical capabilities than humans in the first place.

They specialize in close combat and their mobility exceeds that of humans.

The human soldiers who can use earth magic surround the Bamil territory, while the Oni are standing by in the center of the Bamil territory.

As the direction from which the enemy is coming will be known before the battle begins, the Oni will be able to provide a reasonable amount of strength if they are the first to move out in the direction of the enemy as reinforcements.

The more time spent, the more reinforcements will be assembled.

That is if the enemy comes from one direction.

It might not be a bad idea, though.

With me and Houen, we can be confident that the annihilation battle will be left to us.

“The rest depends on the number of reinforcements from the Kingdom of Garott.”

“Then, are the forces on the ground and the ground defense facilities sufficient?”

“Well, we’ll make a few changes. Now, let’s talk about the enemy from the sky.”

Varadim spread out a large map on the table.
