Tanikawa Sakuya

The kid who came up and talked to me has short, frizzy hair.

She also has a hair tie in the shape of a coffee cup.

I think this one?

She’s rather short as well. (She’s taller than Emi but that’s probably just because Emi is too short for her age…….)

“You, tell me your name.”

“It’s Akechi Hideyori.”

“What’s that half-hearted name!? It’s either Akechi Mitsuhide or Toyotomi Hideyori, pick one!”

(TLN: Both of the names above are the names of the author’s favorite warlords)

“I mean, it’s not like I decided the name myself……….”

Rather, my name in my previous life was Toyotomi Mitsuhide you know.

Bringing it up now would only complicate my feelings so I’d like her to drop the subject.

“I can feel a scumbag aura radiating from you Hideyori.”

“You are just going to insult someone you’ve just met……?”

“It’s not an insult. Just an honest impression.”

“You can’t just be forgiven by saying that it’s your honest impression you know.”

Well, in a sense, her impression was actually spot on.

“And you are?”

“My name is Tanikawa Sakuya.”

“T, Tanikawa Sakuya!?”

That’s the name……….that I’ve never heard of before.

Seriously, who’s this kid?

It’s not like all the people I know are all game characters so I actually don’t know who she is.

Naturally, there was no Tanikawa Sakuya appearing in [Breaking the Chain of Sadness].

“Phew. That was tiring……. Nn?”

That’s when Master came back and saw me and the girl together.

“There you are, Master. I want a cake.”

“Sakuya….., you too huh……..”

“Master, who’s this mannerless kid?”

“You are not exactly the politest kid too you know.”

With a sigh, Master headed to the fridge and took out a cake.

“Sakuya’s my daughter.”

“Eh!? Your surname is Tanikawa!?”

“I see, you don’t even know that huh…….”

Saying so, Master put the cake in front of the girl with a bitter smile.

“Why does your own daughter call you Master too though?”

“She grew up watching TV. It seems she picked the word ‘Master’ up after watching some hard-boiled drama. Her haughty speech pattern came from some historical show she watched too I think.”

“Well, the girl who lives next door to me was also influenced by romance dramas. The inside of her head is probably dyed pink already so we have got the same problem I guess.”

“I will keep in mind not to let Sakuya watch any romance dramas then…….”

In front of his Sakuya, Master really looks like a doting parent.

“That’s how it is. Hideyori, this is not a place where a kid like you should be. This coffee shop is a place for adults to enjoy.”

“Hou, a place for adults to enjoy huh. Care to elaborate?”

“This coffee shop exists for adults who crave peace and pleasure in coffee. They pay for pleasure here and go home feeling good. It’s that kind of adult shop.”

“They pay for pleasure here and go home feeling good!”

“Stop! My shop just sounds shady when you just focus on that part right!”

It seems Sakuya couldn’t understand why her father wanted her to stop when she just repeated what he said.

“So in the words of your daughter, this place is [A shop where adults pay for their pleasure and go home feeling good] huh. She’s got a promising future.”

“You actually know what it means when you say that right? Just what kind of education did my sister give you……..”

I shouldn’t tell him that she was so afraid that she just stood by while I was beaten I guess………

While I was muttering so in my mind, the expresso I ordered was finally served in front of me.

“So, Master! Who’s this kid!?”

“He’s a child my sister took in.”

“Took in? She didn’t give birth to him?”

“My sister and Hideyori have no blood connection so yes, she didn’t give birth to him.”

In other words, that makes me and Sakuya completely unrelated by blood.

While listening to their conversation, I take a sip of the coffee.

“Ahh, as always, your coffee is really good, Master.”

“If you are always this amicable then I would consider you a cute kid though.”

I can tell that contrary to his barbed words, he’s actually happy about my praise.

Seeing the exchange between I and Master, Sakuya started to pout.

“A kid will be happy no matter what they drink right.”

“What? I’m the kind of man who can tell the differences in his coffee you know.”

“Then I challenge you to a game.”

“A game?”

Sakuya walks to the kitchen, prepares two empty cups, and arranges them in front of her.

She then declares.

“It’s the youth-killing coffee game.”

“I see, the youth-killing coffee game huh.”

“That’s right, youth-killing coffee game.”

“To think that it would be such a sinister game……..so a youth-killing coffee game truly exists huh.”

“…….you two sure get along well. You open up to each other so quick.”

Anyway, I will have Sakuya explain what exactly is this youth-killing coffee game first.

TLN: About the game’s name, it seems Sakuya just made it up on the spot

In the raw, it was [Kohii ni waka wo korosu] GAME. Nothing came up no matter how much I searched the terms so I directly translated it as [A Game where you kill your youth using coffee].
