Game

I was walking around the city alone.

Department stores, theaters, coffee shops, amusement parks.

I was gravitating toward the places that I wanted to visit with Toyotomi-kun.

“This is not fun…….”

I begin to wonder if my desire to visit these places is actually not that strong in the first place.

It’s like when you thought that something was delicious but it ended up not to your liking when you actually ate it……..that kind of feeling.

“……a game shop.”

I don’t usually play video games.

Still, I remember that Toyotomi-kun loved playing them.

I see.

If we went on a date then not only the places I wanted to go, we would have gone to places where Toyotomi-kun wanted to visit too huh.

“…………….”

Just for a little bit, let’s take a look inside.

I occasionally play games on my phone but I’m not exactly a big gamer so this feels quite fresh to me.

With some excitement, I started exploring the game shop.

The video games boxes lined up on the wall may not have the actual disc in them but it’s still exciting to look at their cover.

“Ah, this is cute. This one has such a handsome character too! ……..but, Toyotomi-kun is also handsome.”

When I first saw Toyotomi-kun’s face, I thought that he looked like a normal boy rather than someone who’s especially good-looking but right now it seems that my standard for calling someone handsome is already him.

After a while, I found it.

“This is……, [Breaking the Chain of Sadness]……”

The game Toyotomi-kun mentioned on our karaoke date.

It seems to be a PC game so I should be able to play it with no problem.

It was a game with a lot of pretty girls so it was a little embarrassing for me to bring it to the cash register.

Did Toyotomi-kun also endure this same embarrassment……..?

As I thought, Toyotomi-kun really was strong!

*It wasn’t until sometime later that I discovered there’s a downloadable version.

“I bought it! It felt like I just did something bad though.”

I also paid 3 extra yen for a smokey black shopping bag to conceal the game package before I ran back home.

It would be too embarrassing if I got into an accident while carrying this. To be exact, it was [even if I survived it might be better for me to pretend to be dead] level of embarrassing.

Thinking so, I hurried home and ran up to my room so that my mother wouldn’t spot me.

Why is it such a big box though!? When I opened the box, I was surprised to find that it came with the first bonus visual fan book (I will have to be careful about spoilers), and 2 boxes of game discs.

“So many fillers…….”

In a bad way, I was surprised by how much they overpacked this with box fillers like when you order something from a certain online-shopping site.

I want to share this feeling of excitement before opening the box and the bummed-out feeling you felt once you opened it with more people.

“Alright, let’s turn on my computer.”

I boot up my father’s old laptop which was given to me for my private use and immediately inserted the discs inside to install the game.

Once I booted up the game, the title [Breaking the Chain of Sadness] was displayed on the screen with cheerful BGM before the screen was filled with pretty female characters from the game.

For the uninitiated

“Ohh, so this is what Toyotomi-kun played! Kyahh, so cute!!”

With my tension high, I pressed start immediately.

This Juumonji Takeru person must be the game’s main character.

It’s weird that he’s the only character that isn’t voice acted, maybe they didn’t have enough budget to hire a voice actor for him?

“Ah, I think I can vibe with this character. So cute.”

She doesn’t come out much but there’s this babyface character called Sasaki Emi that stood out to me.

It seems that she loves her boyfriend, Akechi Hideyori very much and she depends on him a lot.

Coming from someone who depended so much on Toyotomi-kun like me, it would be impossible for me to stop being so dependent even if someone told me to. (I am well aware of my dependence on him.)

[[You sure so cute Emi.]]

I can understand why this Tsugaru Madoka character wants to flirt with her.

She’s super cute after all!

Seeing the other characters treat Emi like a younger sister just somehow made me want to protect her as well.

“Akechi Hideyori is supposed to be her boyfriend right, why does he keep flirting with other girls like that? This guy is just impossible.”

Her boyfriend looked like complete garbage to me at first glance but he would always appear to save Emi when she was in trouble. I simply can’t understand him.

I can’t even empathize with his character.

As I continued the game by progressing through its various choices, dark clouds started to loom over the game’s story.

Moreover, the heroines that appeared in the game began to fade out of the story, and for some reason, the game just focused only on Juumonji Risa, the younger sister of the game’s protagonist.
