About a week has passed since then.

My life during that time is pretty much the same.

After waking up in the morning, I bought some fruits at the store and went to the dungeon to bash open some goblin skulls. Afternoon, return to the town and scour for information in the guild’s library.

The selling price per monster is cheap. However, once you get used to the routine, your efficiency should have improved. Now, there are days when I can get more than five silver coins in a day. Since I had some time to spare, I bought more daily necessities and I also bought the Grimoire of [Light Ball].

Leveling up, it was quite a mysterious phenomenon that I have experienced more than once. I should be level four now.

It feels strange that I experienced it twice on the first day, but only once a week ago. I’d like to learn more, but I can’t think of a good way to analyze the phenomenon, so I’ll put it on hold, for now. Perhaps it is difficult to level up when battling lower-ranked enemies. I feel that it is one of the rules level-ups follow.

I am now promoted to E-rank in the guild. Since my guild card is now copper, there are no problems even if I moved to another town. Still, I stayed in this village because I wanted to learn as much as possible. Perhaps if I go to a guild in a bigger town instead of such a smaller village, I will find more learning materials. However, there may be materials that can only be found in this village. More than that, I wanted to get as much information as possible in a place where my standing is much more stable.

However, there are still some things I wanted to do now.

Today, I came back from Goblin Sale, which is already part of my daily routine. The routine of splitting multiple cheap goblins’ skulls in the dungeon. Goblin Sale for short.

The name sounds like goblins get a fifty percent discount when they shop. Too bad for them, I’m the one going on the sale. [T/N: The author is making a pun/wordplay/joke of a sale/discount “割” “Wari” and breaking open/splitting “Wari”. It is hard to translate the joke. I’m sorry. orz. I can only do really bad dad jokes.]

The reason why I go to beginner dungeons daily is that even solos adventurers can earn a safe and stable income. Even if it is a beginner dungeon, it is still a big deal to be able to fight one-on-one without any accidents.

I tried to accept a request to collect medicinal herbs, once. However, after looking at the request and checking the book on medicinal herbs in the archives, I gave up immediately. It was quite a hassle. Identify the medicinal herbs, proper harvesting technique, and right time for harvesting, and so on. The initial preparations were too much; multiple tools were also needed, such as specific tools for harvesting, storage, treatment, and so on.

In reality, far from what games show, it would not be possible to just casually accept a request to collect medicinal herbs, pluck the herbs, throw them into a bag, and bring them back to the guild then get paid.

However, if I think about the future, it is an advantage to remember the types of herbs and how to harvest them. I should study it soon.

As I proceeded through the dungeon with that in mind, I encountered the first goblin of the day.

As usual, it runs straightforward while saying “Guga! Guga!”, so it is easy to predict the attack even if it is dark and I can’t see it.

“Well…”

At this point, the goblin’s head, charging towards me, would have been bashed with my cane. But today I wanted to try something different.

Lifting my cane in front of me. I aim the tip of the cane in the direction of the goblin’s attack.

And I begin to chant.

“Light, shoot down my enemy.”

Then, something warm flowed out, from an area on the body called the “TanDen” at the pit of the stomach, through my heart and arms, and gathered at the tip of the cane. [T/N: So the TanDen “丹田” is the soft part of the abdomen unless you have shredded abs. Then it is the area between the pubic area/waist then below the sternum and ribs. It plays a significant part in Japanese martial arts and meditation. Google-sensei has more info if you want more.]

But I delayed shooting it out. I haven’t seen the goblin yet.

I stare at the darkness and wait. And wait. And wait.

“I see you! [Light ball]!”

The moment I saw the goblin’s silhouette, I cast the spell.

The ball of light released from my cane flies straight toward the goblin. Hitting the goblin’s face, then light exploded. The goblin was thrown and slammed into the ground its head facing backward. The half-turned head had me choking on the bile rising up.

Ugh… I really do not want to see the aftermath of the attack on the goblin…

I can see that it is quite battered even from a distance. How terrible.

“… If this was a human.”

Suddenly, I began pondering about chants.

Chants are mysterious, and when they are uttered, they give meaning, power, existence, and influence. I have just chanted a spell.

Will I ever have to fight other humans in this world?

I might. Bandits and wars are not rare in this world. Unless I find a regular job in a secure and stable city, stay, and live there quietly, that time will come someday. Especially if since I am an adventurer and this is a profession, where the probability of encountering such situations are high.

When that happens, can I attack other people without hesitating?

Well regarding that… I do not know for now. At least I do not think I am stupid enough to die without reacting when I am in that situation. However, I can’t say anything unless I experience it. Whether or not my body will be able to act quickly in such a situation.

The reality is that things unpredictable situations can and might still occur.
