Chapter 649: 12.51 Unknown Star – Modern ABO World: First Case – A Rainy Evening

The night just after the sun had set.

At the Suburbs, Abandoned Church.

Everyone had gathered once again. They need to try solving the case as soon as possible so the gathered information would be shared with the team for the second time. When Officer Ying Wu, Wei Lou, and Jie Yun arrived at the scene, they saw Ye Yuyan and Hua Heiyu fighting over a burger. With Hua Hieyu half lying down on the wooden bench and Ye Yuyan pushing him with one hand and pulling a paper bag with the other.

That burger happened to be one of the three burgers for the three people who hadn’t arrived at the venue. Inspector Yi Rouya on the other hand had left immediately after getting someone to send the five burger sets to the abandoned church.

He was terrified that Hua Heiyu might lose control over his craziness and kill him on the spot. He also didn’t believe that Prosecutor Ye Yuyan would save him if the psycho indeed jumped on him. He knew how much Ye Yuyan disdained him. He wasn’t even looking human in the eyes of this mad Prosecutor. Now he guessed that these two get along a bit well since they both had problems in the head. He is a normal person and he doesn’t want to get involved with crazy people.

Ye Yuyan said, “Give that to me! You ate three burgers already!”

“No! I already gave you one. The rest are mine!” retorted Hua Heiyu.

“You even ate the other’s set!? Are you not afraid of getting fat as a pig!?” said Ye Yuyan.

Hua Heiyu pulled Ye Yuyan’s hair like a child and said, “Who are you calling a pig! You are the pig. Your whole family is a pig!”

“Idiot! If you say that then you are a pig yourself!” said Ye Yuyan as he thought no one else was inside the church aside from the two of them.

When Wei Lou and Jie Yun noticed that their boss had slipped up for a moment. Wei Lou kicked the wooden bench to show their presence.

THUD!

Ye Yuyan and Hua Heiyu froze.

Wei Lou said, “Oops~ You want to continue flirting go ahead! Don’t worry about the burger. I already ate outside.”

Jie Yun and Officer Ying Wu who hadn’t eaten all this time looked at each other and sighed.

“Don’t worry I will order some more food,” said Officer Ying Wu.

Prosecutor Ye Yuyan felt he lost face and was stunned that Hua Heiyu got him off guard. He got kicked in the stomach and fell off the bench. Plus the burger they are fighting over was taken by Hua Heiyu who ran off with a large cup of coke and didn’t even forget to grab another set of fries.

Ye Yuyan failed to catch him and said, “You come back here! I only ate one!” he shouted.

Officer Ying Wu commented, “I’ll order you another set, Prosecutor Ye.”

“Then... Okay,” said Ye Yuyan as he averted his face. No one knows if he is pissed or shy.

Hua Heiyu said, “Me. Wuwu, buy me some Ice cream!”

Ye Yuyan twisted his body and glared at Hua Heiyu and said, “Don’t eat anymore!”

Hua Heiyu rolled his eyes at him as he grabbed Officer Ying Wu’s sleeves and then let go.

“It’s raining. Don’t eat something cold in such weather. It’s not good for your health,” commented Jie Yun. “Change it to hot chocolate instead.”

“Sure. What about you?” asked Officer Ying Wu to Wei Lou.

Hearing this reply Hua Heiyu happily sat down on a wooden bench where he left his burger and fries and resumed eating.

“Coffee with milk,” replied Wei Lou.

They waited until the order for delivery which Officer Ying Wu had booked arrived. They ate as the meeting continued.

Prosecutor Ye Yuyan said, “What have you guys found?”

Officer Ying Wu was the first one to speak.

“I’ve just returned from one of the victim’s houses. The other victim doesn’t want to get involved with the police and told us to stay away from her. So I no longer cared about the first one and went to the second one.

The second victim is the sister who survived when her elder sister was killed. They aren’t related by blood but they treated each other as one. Like the same targets, she met all the requirements. Single parent, pregnant, and lives alone. I was told that she was awake when her sister was killed a year ago. But sadly, she didn’t see his face in the dark.

But she heard his voice and was not willing to identify him because of trauma and fear of being retaliated if she told the police.” said Officer Ying Wu.

Wei Lou asked, “Doesn’t that mean she recognizes the killer by his voice? Why doesn’t she tell the police? Is she protecting him?”

“Maybe not. In case of immense fear, you need extreme protection to get her out of her mental fear. It seems the police cannot give that to her,” said Jie Yun.

Ye Yuyan was frowning as he tried to think deeper about the case. It looked creepy as he was munching on a burger while he kept staring at the bloody photos of the victims pinned on the wooden board in front of him.

Then he suddenly glanced at Hua Heiyu, “If you’re done eating, do your job!” said Prosecutor Ye Yuyan.

Hua Heiyu was currently drinking his hot chocolate. But for someone with a cat’s tongue like his, drinking hot beverages is not possible. He will just get his tongue burned. He had to wait for it to become lukewarm before he could drink it.

“Who is her doctor? The one who checked her current state as a pregnant woman. She didn’t go into a big hospital. I’ve seen that victim Wuwu mentioned.

Orphaned. Single parent. Deceased sister. Living alone. In short, she is poor with no family or husband to lean on. There is no way she would go to a big hospital to check on her child. But slums had so many alleys, there should be clinics at least.” said Hua Heiyu.

At this point, everyone except Ye Yuyan was looking at Hua Heiyu as if asking what his brain is made of. How can his thinking be that elaborate when he was in this church all this time and only had Officer Ying Wu’s statement and the victim’s information alone. Jie Yun commented, “Geniuses had a different way of thinking than ordinary people like us. Don’t think too much about it? You’ll just make your head hurt.”

“Are you indirectly saying I’m an idiot!?” said Wei Lou.

Jie Yun said, “You are the one who said that. Not me!”

“You... bastard!” said Wei Lou about entering a fist fight with Jie Yun but was stopped by Prosecutor Ye’s sharp glance. He could only click his tongue in anger and went back to his seat.

Ye Yuyan said, “Continue.”

“Yes, Sir. Her doctor is someone called Doctor Shen. As Heiyu speculated, he is a doctor in the slums area.” said Officer Ying Wu.

Hua Heiyu said, “Doctors usually give pregnant women some supplements before birth. Since you came back late you must have the results of her medicine. Does it have forced sleeping effects like sleeping pills?”

Officer Ying Wu no longer acted surprised and he already expected it but... It still left him speechless. Officer Ying Wu was confused on the other hand.

“Why can we bring him down?” he asked.

It was Jie Yun who answered his question, “The medicine is not enough evidence to say he is the killer. After all, that victim is as you said traumatized. She must at least suffer from depression and insomnia. He can use this as an excuse to remove suspicion on himself.”

“Ah~,” said Wei Lou and Officer Ying Wu at the same time.

Hua Heiyu and Jie Yun instantly understood when Prosecutor Ye Yuyan said such a thing.

Officer Ying Wu asked, “What should we do next, Prosecutor Ye?”

“Send your team to protect the second victim. We will focus on the first victim first. The murderer must already know about your visits and how she declined the protection of the police. She is in danger.” said Prosecutor Ye Yuyan.

Hua Heiyu noticed the loud sound of rain falling and commented,

“It might be already too late. His territory... had appeared. For someone, competing with another killer. He wouldn’t waste any given opportunity.”

“Which is the most possible location of the crime scene!?” asked Ye Yuyan who suddenly grabbed Hua Hieyu’s collar.

There is a rage painted on his face as well as urgency while there is only indifference and unsympathy on Hua Heiyu’s face.

Prosecutor Ye Yuyan asked, “I’m asking where is the most possible location he would go for a kill!?”

“Based on the current time, day, and the first victim’s daily lifestyle. She might currently be on the road on her way home. Holding an umbrella that blocked her sight under this heavy rain.” said Hua Heiyu.

Prosecutor Ye Yuyan and the rest no longer waited time and went to the car as fast as they could. Officer Ying Wu even asked some comrades of his to go to the location Hua Heiyu had mentioned. Wei Lou even took this chance to capture the culprit and ordered his little brothers to move.

Inside the abandoned church, only Jie Yun and Hua Heiyu remain.

The sound of the rain made even the silent atmosphere inside the church noisy.

Yun Jie asked, “Brother, do you think they can save her?”

“No. It’s too late. She must be dead by now.” responded Hei Yuhua as some theories and probabilities were all calculated in his head.

As the former top undercover agent like him, he had perfect calculation at his every move. He would also choose not to move if the situation is already beyond what he can do. He was trained to sacrifice someone even himself if the situation had a need for it. So he longed to be indifferent to the lives of others that are not important to his life.

But Prosecutor Ye Yuyan, Lou Wei, and Officer Ying Wu are different. They are police officers. This main job is to save civilians above everything. So even though Hei Yuhua had told them it was already too late. They couldn’t give up the hope she might have lived.

Maybe if Officer Ying Wu reported everything ahead of time, Hei Yuhu would have come up with such a situation to save her. But not only did he return late from visiting the second victim’s house. They even took their time to eat dinner. It might look coincidental but it had been a perfect calculation of fate instead.

Hei Yuhua remembered the information about the second victim’s background. The name of the orphanage she came from was familiar to him.

“A’Jie, you said before that in the orphanage you grew up from, you used to have an elder sister right?” asked Hei Yuhua.

Yun Jie replied, “Yes. Is there something wrong, brother?”

“There is a 70% percent possibility that this second victim is the elder sister in your past. Why don’t you... visit her... to check?”

Before Hei Yuhua could complete his words Yun Jie had longed to run out to do what Hei Yuhua had suggested. His lone figure at that abandoned church made him even more cold and lonely. As if he was differently made from the rest. After all, he lacks sympathy for the people he doesn’t care about. To him, their lives had nothing to do with him.

Ring. Ring. Ring.

In that abandoned church, Hei Yuhua who was looking at the falling rain with dull eyes suddenly heard a phone ringing. He looked around the church and saw that Officer Ying Wu’s phone had been left behind in his hurry.

When Hei Yuhua saw the flashing unknown number on the screen he nonchalantly answered the phone call.

Hei Yuhua, “This is Hydrangea. Mission Accomplish.”
