Chapter 383: Origin Arts Complexity

“Thank you, aunty.” Compass Carburettor cupped his fists, thanking Mella for showing him to the Clan library.

Surprisingly, he was allowed entry when Mella declared that Compass Carburettor had an Earth Martial Spirit. The Elders of the Opposition Clan were rather glad to form ties with him, thinking that he originated from a hidden Clan that had secluded itself in a discrete location.

Even though there was a lot of sensitive information in the library, it was on the uppermost floor. And, all Compass Carburettor had asked for was present on the ground floor. The information here was something possessed by any decent Clan.

So, they were glad to allow him entry.

Compass Carburettor looked through the countless shelves, browsing through the titles as he was able to easily read them. This was a System Slayer’s advantage that he also possessed as the Main Character.

And best of all, since it was related to the mind, it wasn’t sealed by the Restriction Order. ‘Indeed, the path of the mind is the key to solving myself out of this situation.’

At present, he had an understanding of both the written and oral forms of the language used in the Gaider Realm. There was a lot of useful information here that he planned on browsing later, finding the shelf related to Origin Arts first.

“Origin Arts are techniques applying the Origin Essence to execute a variety of phenomena.” Compass Carburettor began to read through the book, slowly understanding details regarding Origin Arts.

For the next few days, he only focused on learning details regarding Origin Arts, consulting Mella whenever he had any doubts.

As he was the one that gave Ranze the means to solve his marriage issue, bringing the Opposition Clan a lot of benefits, Mella was happy to oblige, answering his questions to the best of her abilities.

Thanks to her support, he was soon able to get a solid understanding of Origin Arts. Though, it had taken him three weeks just to understand it.

It made him realise that cultivation was a vast ocean, “It wouldn’t have taken so long if I still had the Skill of Intelligence.”

He then shook his head, ignoring all the negative thoughts before focusing on his task. In things related to politics, he didn’t have to wrack his head much. He had a plethora of experiences regarding this.

The same could be said concerning Systems too. After all, for the past two years, he had only been thinking about Systems and the ways to destroy them. So no matter the situation, he could directly take a solution he had thought of before and modify it according to the situation at hand.

This was how he was able to bridge the gap left by the Skill of Intelligence. Though, if he didn’t have so much experience or hadn’t wracked his head constantly to think about means to trap, kill, or escape from Systems, he wouldn’t have been able to do much in his present state.

“Indeed, nothing beats experience.” He sighed, further understanding why the Systems chose Hosts from the Apocalypse World.

“Still, Origin Arts are pretty tricky. So, I shouldn’t beat myself about it too much.” He massaged his head.

Origin Arts could be expressed in a few forms: accessories for Trash Martial Spirits, organs for Human Martial Spirits, and catalysts for Earth Martial Spirits.

Origin Arts weren’t just techniques, but they evolved the Martial Spirit further.

So, that meant one couldn’t just learn every Origin Art they came across, for that would mess up their Martial Spirit, causing their cultivation to stagnate after reaching a certain level.

Suppose for a Cat Martial Spirit, if the learnt Origin Art was akin to another pair of eyes, all it would do was burden the cat’s brain further due to the volume of information the second pair of eyes capture and transmit to the brain.

This would cause its reaction to slow down, making it weaker. Similarly, if the Origin Art created a third pair of limbs for the cat, that would also be redundant and would in turn weaken the cat.

So, Origin Arts must be learnt carefully so that they complement the Martial Spirit and benefit it instead of overwhelming it.

This was a pretty tricky concept. After all, once an Origin Art was learnt, it was impossible to destroy its traces on the Martial Spirit.

After all, a Human Martial Spirit would actually grow new organs or body parts according to the Origin Art the cultivator learns.

So, if it’s messed up, the Martial Spirit would become tremendously weak. This was true for all Martial Spirits.

Though, Ranze’s Divine Martial Spirit was an exception, as it was capable of changing forms, allowing him to learn all Trash Origin Arts. He could just attach the respective Origin Art to the suitable Martial Spirit form his brick takes.

This was why Compass Carburettor took so long just to understand it. And here came another complexity. And that was creating an Origin Art.

What he’ll be doing would be similar to inducing cancer in his Martial Spirit. And, through the exercise of his will, he would be shaping the cancer growth accordingly until it attains the form he desires. But, if he failed, the cancer growth would go out of control and cause the death of his Martial Spirit.

And in this case, it meant that he would lose all his cultivation. This was also why Compass Carburettor stopped cultivating.

After all, if he messed up here, there was a good chance his Mind Frog would be killed. Though, he had no plans to be that careless.

“Hah!” Sighing, he closed the last book related to Origin Arts, understanding what he had to do to create his own Origin Arts, “But first, I must have a clear idea as to what I need and then worry whether that would burden my Mind Frog or not.”

“And after that, I’ll have to see which Origin Art would raise the growth of my Mind Frog.” Arriving at this point of thought, Compass Carburettor massaged his forehead, “That’s a lot of thinking. But, if I’m able to induce its growth using Origin Arts…”

He muttered, “What will it take to evolve it into my Personal Fragment?”
