Chapter 50: Monster of Fire Attribute

After they arrived at the 2nd floor there was no longer a cave, it went straight to the 3rd floor. Since some floors had a troublesome nature, simply passing through took a lot of time and stamina.

They met fellow Explorers every once in a while. But, it seems most Explorer prefer the deeper floor, so the appearance of SDF in the shallow floor was really conspicuous.

After walking for quite a while, fire attribute monsters such as fire breathing lizards, or turtles with blazing shells started to appear.

They ignored those monsters. The group had finally arrived at the 10th floor dozens minutes later.

The area that could only be described as a crimson ravine spread before them.

「Okay, let’s begin!」

The president dropped the huge bag on his shoulder and took out the dismantled weapon from inside.

Maika and Tanaka also took out their own weapon from the bag. Tanaka used his usual short sword and helmet, he added sporty glasses and wrapped a towel around his head.

He is already sweating profusely despite doing nothing but walking.

Maika combined the pole that separated into three parts to form a long pole. Seeing how she was accustomed to do that, Yuuma guessed that Maika specialized in using poles.

Though the president’s weapon was also reassambled, the finished form was a huge hexagonal club.

「That weapon look really solid.」

「Yeah, it’s an order made by my acquaintance. It lack precision but, this kind of weapon suit me the most.」

The president then took a short sword from the back. The same as the one used by Tanaka, it seems to be an enchanted armament.

When the president gripped the hilt of the sword, pale blue light started to appear in the entire part of the sword. It’s as if the sword had tiny, blue coloured blood vessels.

After it shone for a while, the president gave the sword to Yuuma.

「Okay, I have charged it with the magical power of water attribute. Use this for self-defense during emergency.」

「Eh!? You can inject magical power?」

Since there was a limit to the amount of magical power, it would be used up if someone with magical power kept using magic in the dungeon.

「Are you sure? I mean, using your precious magical power for someone li—」

「This amount is nothing for me. It will disappear tomorrow if you’re not using it. but it should be enough for up to thrice attacks. In case you’re attacked by strong monster, use this sword to protect yourself!」

「Y-Yes!」

Yuuma kept the sword on his belt. Though the chance for powerful monsters to come out was next to nothing on such a shallow floor, there was nothing wrong with being too prepared.

「――So, did you bring that guy?」

「Yes, it’s here…」

Yuuma dropped his bag, and took out something from inside.

It also separated into three pole, but it wasn’t a long pole. It would became Yuuma’s beloved “Pickel” once he reassembled it.

「I hear that there’s 『Salamander』 in the innermost part of this 10th floor but, there’s no strong monster aside from that. So your normal weapon should be enough to take care of the other monsters.」

The president shouldered his huge, hexagonal club and looked around as he walked.

「Oh! There you are!」

The ground on which the president looked at had a bump. The president hummed as he raised his club, and struck the ground.

Yuuma was really surprised when he saw something fly off from the bump.

「WHAT THE HECK!?」

It was a small creature around twenty cm long. It had long beard, slit and deteriorated eyes. Yes, it was――

「Fire mole. They can only breath small flame but, they’re pretty tough.」

The president swung his club lightly, and struck the fire mole. The fire mole raised a brief shriek before it turned into dust.

The president heaved a sigh, and turned around to Yuuma.

「Well, that’s how you did it. Listen Yuuma, we’re a pro Explorer. We can’t just hunt any monster. To raise our efficiency in getting magic gems, we have to hunt specified monsters. In short, we subjugated monster that can easily make money.」

Since that was only natural, Yuuma easily agreed with the president.

「And the most efficient monster on this 10th floor is the fire mole. It’s less dangerous and easy to beat. Its location is also easy to find. And most of all, it has a better drop rate compared to the other monsters in this floor. Yuuma, your first real job is to hunt them.」

「I understand, leave it to me!」

「Take it easy. Maika will teach you the know how.」

When he looked at Maika, the latter smiled as she muttered “Leave it to me”.

「Tanaka-san and I will go further down to get a magic gem. The two of you can hunt the fire mole around this floor during that time.」

「Ye~s, leave it to us, president!」

「We will do our best!」

After seeing Yuuma and Maika reply cheerfully, the president headed toward the lower floor along with Tanaka.

「Okay, let’s get started.」

After saying so, Maika started looking around their vicinity. She then told Yuuma that she found several moles nearby.

「To know if there’s a fire mole inside these mounds or not, we can only guess by hitting it. The mole would jump out of the hole due to shock once we hit the mound.」

「Y-Yes!」

「Take a look at me doing it first. I can’t guarantee if I can do it better than the president though…」

Then, Maika struck at the mound with the club in her hands. She raised her club again and struck at the fire mole who came out from their hole with superb accuracy.

When the fire mole leaped in the air, Maika held her club firmly, aiming carefully till the best height.

That moment, the hilt of Maika’s club shone faintly―― It was water magic.

The pale blue light enveloped the entire club.

Maika swung her club lightly, and the fire mole which got hit by that strike turned into dust immediately.

「See! It’s that simple.」

Yuuma was dumbfounded when he saw Maika’s bright smile as she said those words.
