Chapter 32 – "New Magic Bag"

Five days had passed since then. All I did during that time was hunt boars and deliver the dismantled materials to the guild.

It seemed that my dismantling skills were of a much higher standard than those of this world, and the materials I dismantled were sold at a very high price.

Thanks to this, I was able to earn a higher income than if I had purely hunted Dashboas.

However, I thought that a life of hunting only Dashboas day in and day out like this would be tasteless, so I tried to accept a request to gather medicinal herbs once, but then Nicole came to me and said this.

“Rolando-san, I would like to ask you to take down and dismantle Dashboas. For that reason, I have asked the other adventurers to refrain from taking requests to subjugate Dashboas.”

“But I get tired of hunting Dashboas every day. So—“

“Please, I'll be asking for another Dashboa today.”

She seemed to really want me to go hunt for Dashboas, and although she had a smile on her face, I could sense some unexplainable pressure, so I nodded my head, albeit reluctantly.

Well, I know that it is more profitable for me to hunt Dashboas as much as possible because I get paid more than the market price if I hunt Dashboas.......

“I get tired of seeing nothing but Dashboas every day.”

Thanks in part to the purchase of the dashboa material and the commission fee, the amount of money in my possession at present had increased to four medium silver coins and eight small silver coins. In Japanese yen, this amounts to 48,000 yen. (394 USD)

I had acquired a lot of money in the past few days, and I was wondering if it was time to buy new equipment, but I realized that I had to solve a problem before that. That problem is—

“I need a magic bag with a little more capacity.”

Yes, this would mean that the maximum amount of luggage that I could carry on my hands would be limited.

Although I had hunted a considerable amount of Dashboas in the past five days, there was no way that the demand of many others could keep up with the supply of one human being.

Therefore, the price of the materials I was delivering was skyrocketing, and I was thinking that it was time to increase my supply and make some more big money at this point.

“My ranks have risen, too.”

While completing this Dashboa-related request, to my surprise, my rank was promoted from F to E.

The guild's rank was not only an indicator of strength but also of how much one had contributed to the guild.

I believe that my contribution to the guild was recognized by the goods I delivered and played a role in my promotion.

So, to take it up a notch, I turned my attention to a store that sold magic bags.

The city of Rendark was divided into four main sections, as it was called a territory capital.

The residential district contained the homes of commoners, the commercial district was lined with stores, the upper district housed the residences of nobles and wealthy merchants, and the public district was lined with government facilities such as the Adventurers' Guild and the Commercial Guild.

Sectional carriages were running to each section, which was very convenient and available to anyone who had little money to spare.

Today, I took a sectional carriage to the commercial district because I had business in that area.

“It's really just a bunch of stores.”

Rather than a traditional commercial district, it was more like a series of stores lined up along a route centered on the main street.

However, it wasn't as if all of the stores were thriving, with some restaurants attracting many customers, while others seemed to be the exact opposite, with no customers at all, and it was doubtful if they were even open for business.

“......this must be the place.”

I stopped in front of one of the stores.

There was no sign, but Nicole, an Adventurers' Guild employee, recommended this store to me.

When I opened the old door, it opened with an unpleasant sound as if it was not properly set up.

The interior of the store was dimly lit even though the sun was rising at this time of the day, making it difficult to see the entire store. The only thing that could barely be recognized was the wooden shelves lined with items of unknown use.

“….”

There was a person in a robe at a counter-like area in the back of the store, presumably a clerk.

Because of the loose-fitting robe, it was impossible to discern the gender of the person from the entrance of the store.

First of all, I went up to the clerk to see if they sell magic bags. Then, I asked them a question.

“I heard you sell magic bags in this store?”

“Boy, who told you that?”

“A receptionist named Nicole works at the Adventurers' Guild.”

“I can't say no to you after an introduction from that girl. Wait here for a moment.”

With that, the clerk stood up and walked away to the back of the store. The high-pitched voice sounding through the robe was muffled, but one could tell that it was a woman. And, although it was hard to tell from a distance, her bosom, which even the loose-fitting robe could not cover up, asserted the clerk gender as female.

When the clerk came back from the back for a while, she was carrying what appeared to be a magic bag, which she began to place on the counter.

”The first one is up to 50 kilograms. The second one is up to 100 kilograms, and the last one is up to 200 kilograms.”

“How much does each one cost?”

“50 kilos is two medium silver coins and eight small silver coins, 100 kilos is five medium silver coins, and 200 is nine medium silver coins.”

“Can't you do something more about the price for the 100 kilograms?”

The only thing I could afford among the prices offered was, a magic bag with the same fifty kilograms as the one I have now, but if possible, I would like a bag over that with a hundred kilograms.

So I tried to negotiate the price for the 100kg bag, but the shopkeeper insisted.

“Boy, no matter how much she introduces you, please don't bargain with me.”

“I'm running low on cash right now. Can you give me four medium silver coins and five small silver coins?”

“Then it's bad for my business. Even though I will lose a lot of money, it will be four medium silver coins and nine small silver coins.”

“One more call. Four medium silver coins and six small silver coins.”

“Four medium silver coins and eight small silver coins.......”

After subsequent price negotiations, I managed to get her to reduce the price to four medium silver coins and seven small silver coins by offering several kilos of Dashboa meat that I had on hand.

When I offered her the Dashboa meat, she asked me where I got this meat, and when I explained that I had hunted it myself, the clerk nodded as if she was somehow convinced.

“The boy was that adventurer I have heard about, huh? That explains why Nicole sends you to my store.”

“That adventurer?”

“It's the boy, isn't it? There's a rumor going around these days that the Adventurers' Guild is selling high-quality Dashboa meat and other materials. It was said that they were being delivered by novice adventurers, but I never would have guessed that they were being delivered by a youngster like you.”

“Is it really that much of a rumor?”

“People are talking about it all the time these days.”

I had heard from Nicole that the materials I delivered were traded at a high price, but I didn't expect the rumors to have gotten that far, so I couldn't help but be surprised.

After chatting with her for a couple of words, I received the magic bag from her and left the store. I was able to put the magic bag I had been using inside the new one I got, and although it didn't look much different, it greatly improved the amount I could carry.

“Good, now I can bring back more material.”

Thanks to this, or because of this, I had lost all the money I had earned in the past few days.

I was thinking of getting a new bag and some new equipment, but since I had no money at the moment, I headed for the usual meadow to make some money first.
