86 Dejected

Lian Jing’s sharp gaze stabbed Zhong Xin. “Whether she misunderstands or not has nothing to do with me.”

Zhong Xin was shocked. After personally witnessing how much the President cared about Shen Yin, he was surprised to hear Lian Jing say such a thing.

Had they quarreled?

When he remembered that this was his President’s first romance, Zhong Xin could not help worrying about him.

He looked at Lian Jing’s expression and deliberated. “President Lian, Miss Shen has never called you so urgently. Perhaps something serious has happened, do you think…”

Lian Jing shot him a look but did not say anything. Zhong Xin heaved a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to pick up the call, the person on the other end suddenly hung up. Then, the ring tone that had annoyed CEO Lian stopped.

Lian Jing’s expression grew even grimmer. He seemed so furious that Zhong Xin did not even dare to breathe. He broke out in cold sweat. “President Lian, I’ll send a text message to Miss Shen to ask.”

“No need.” Lian Jing snorted angrily and looked up at him in disgust. “If you have nothing to do, you can go and help the sales department. Their performance this month is so poor. You can take the opportunity to earn some commission.”

Zhong Xin’s eyes widened. “President Lian, I suddenly remembered that I need to check a contract. I’ll go now.”

What a joke. He was the President’s chief secretary. If he was sent to the sales department, that would be equivalent to exile.

Without anyone to irritate him, Lian Jing’s mind grew even more troubled. His mind was filled with images of Shen Yin drunkenly calling someone else’s name last night.

He closed his eyes and suddenly stood up in frustration and rushed out of the President’s office.

The office door slammed with a bang. Zhong Xin was shocked. Seeing the President’s ferocious expression, he quickly lowered his head and kept quiet.

Lian Jing looked at him coldly and clenched his fists. “Make the arrangements. I’m going on a business trip.”

Seeing that it was time to get off work, the discomfort in Shen Yin’s chest eased a little. She forced herself to stay alert and returned to the car. Subconsciously, she drove to the intersection where Lian Jing often waited to pick her up.

She wondered what he was up to today, that he failed to answer her calls for the entire day.

Shen Yin felt uneasy and increasingly sensed that Lian Jing was avoiding her. Perhaps he had done something wrong and was too embarrassed to see her!

She gritted her teeth and punched the steering wheel. Looking at the empty intersection, she felt strangely stifled.

Habit was really a scary thing.

Shen Yin sighed and drove home alone.

In the rear view mirror, a man with a vicious expression stood at the street corner. Now he turned and walked away.

When Shen Yin returned to the Lian residence, Shen Nian was playing chess with Grandpa Lian. The two of them were having a good time playing with each other.

She did not disturb the two of them and walked up to the second floor tiredly.

Standing alone in the empty corridor, the sense of belonging that had arisen at some point was shattered.

She looked at Lian Jing’s room and quietly walked to the door. She raised her hand and knocked.

There was no sound in the room. Lian Jing was not back yet.

She suddenly panicked. She rushed downstairs and ran over to Grandpa Lian. She tried her best to ask calmly, “Grandpa, did Lian Jing contact you today?”

Grandpa Lian nodded. “Yes. Zhong Xin called and said that Little Jing is going on a business trip and will be back in a few days.”

Shen Nian moved a chess piece and looked up in surprise. “Mom, didn’t Dad tell you? Dad even called me and told me to stay at home obediently these few days and not run around.”

“Oh.” Shen Yin nodded dejectedly.

The Old Master and Shen Nian looked at each other and saw the disbelief in each other’s eyes.

Old Master Lian was deep in thought. He had been wondering why Little Jing had specially asked his assistant to inform him about the business trip. Ever since that child had taken over the company, he had always made his own decisions.

Sure enough, something was amiss.

It seemed that Lian Jing had deliberately neglected to inform Shen Yin.

He looked at Shen Yin’s dejected expression and his heart softened. “Yin Yin, Little Jing will be back in a few days. Don’t worry, everything will be fine. The child might have other reasons of his own. You can ask him properly when he comes back.”

Shen Yin nodded, she suddenly felt ill used. She forced down her dinner and rolled herself under the blanket, but her ears kept listening for movement outside the door.

Unfortunately, other than Shen Nian closing the door, there were no other sounds.
