79 Nightmare

Shen Yin and Grandpa Lian coaxed the depressed Shen Nian to eat and kept him company until late in the night. Only then did they finally manage to coax the boy, who rarely revealed his fragile emotions, to sleep.

She looked at the time. Lian Jing was not back yet.

Recalling that Zhong Xin had told her to wait for him after work, Shen Yin forced herself to stay awake and lay down on the sofa downstairs, still fully dressed.

She did not have the guts to sleep in her room while waiting for him. For them to be alone, in the middle of the night, with her lying on the bed and waiting for him to come back was too flirtatious a scene. It would seem like a desperate invitation from her.

Shen Yin fell asleep.

After some time, the person who was sleeping on the sofa suddenly frowned. Her hands gripped the pillow beside her uneasily, and her red lips visibly lost their color. She was trembling and muttering something.

“Shen Yin, wake up.”

The man wiped her sweaty forehead worriedly and leaned closer to her half-opened mouth, trying his best to distinguish what she was mumbling.

Shen Yin closed her eyes and her breathing gradually quickened. Her entire body was as cold as ice.

“No…”

In the dream, she stumbled along a dark corridor. Fear filled her eyes and blood dripped on the ground.

The darkness behind her was threatening to engulf her. The path she stepped on turned into sticky blood, and the nauseating smell of blood kept wafting into her nose.

Shen Yin was drenched in sweat, and her hands and feet were stiff with cold. She tried her best to run, but gradually lost control of her legs. Her body fell forward without warning, but she suddenly fell into an even darker abyss.

The eerie scene suddenly changed. The sound of a knife stabbing into flesh was especially clear in the darkness. She opened her trembling eyes and saw the person in front of her violently spit out a mouthful of blood. That person’s previously clear eyes were now cloudy.

She cried “No”, but all she could hear was the sound of the person falling on his knees to the ground. The smell of blood and death invaded her brain.

She struggled to resist, but she was tied to a chair and she could not move. The rope around her wrists dug into her flesh, but she did not seem to feel any pain. She continued to struggle violently.

A bone-chilling coldness crept up her spine to her brain. Shen Yin watched helplessly as the person in front of her fell. A pair of scarlet and sinister eyes glowed in the darkness.

“Ah!”

Shen Yin screamed and sat up. Her entire body was drenched in cold sweat. She opened her eyes in shock and fell into a warm embrace.

“Don’t be afraid. I’m here, Yin Yin. It was all a nightmare. Don’t be afraid.” Lian Jing’s heart ached as he hugged her. He personally poured a cup of hot tea and handed it to her. “Drink some water to calm yourself down.”

Shen Yin drank a glass of water from his hand in a daze, and her wildly beating heart finally slowed.

She blinked and said with rather pitifully, “Why are you back so late?”

“Something urgent cropped up tonight. It’s my fault for making you wait for so long.” Lian Jing sighed and took the cup from her hand. He placed it back on the table and leaned over to sweep her into his arms.

“What are you doing?” Shen Yin had just had a nightmare and was on edge. Lian Jing’s intimate actions set off the alarm bells in her head.

Lian Jing sighed helplessly. “I’m bringing you back to your room to sleep. Are you going to sleep here for the entire night?”

“Didn’t you say you have something for me? What is it?” Shen Yin shrank into his arms. She could clearly hear the strong heartbeat next to her ear.

“I’ve already given it to you.”

The corners of Lian Jing’s lips curled up. He deliberately shut his mouth, clearly unwilling to explain to her.

Shen Yin looked at him warily. From her angle, she could see his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down.

Shen Yin throat suddenly felt dry. She looked away in a panic.

No matter how much she fought against it, she had to admit that this man was very good-looking. Every feature was flawless and seemed to have been meticulously fabricated.

In the past, she had not thought much about his looks when his expression was so frosty. But now that his features had softened and he looked at her with indescribable affection, she could not help but feel confused.

In order to prevent him from noticing that there was anything amiss with her, Shen Yin hurriedly crawled into the blanket the moment she touched her bed. She was like a quail that had smelled danger. “You can leave. Thank you for what you did just now.”

Lian Jing pulled down her blanket in amusement. “You’re really not afraid anymore? Do you need me to keep you company?”

Lian Jing could not help but plant a kiss between her eyebrows when he saw her nodding vigorously. “Good night, my little quail.”
