Chapter 2

Thirty-nine years had already passed since “Doomsday”, which was not a very long time. Most of the people who had experienced that period were still alive, and it seemed that suddenly, a new generation of people had sprung up all over the world.

This chaotic period had lasted nine years.

When the federation was established, they established a new way of numbering the years for the sake of auspiciousness, which was called the New Era.

Now, it was thirty years later.

In regard to the survivability of the human race, this “Doomsday” was really not as serious as all sorts of science fiction had described. To be precise, it was similar to a highly contagious flu that had quickly spread all over the world and killed off nearly a quarter of the population.

It was indeed very grave. In all of history, there hadn’t been any other virus as intense as this one. Several countries were caught off guard and those with relatively poor government emergency response capabilities were filled with corpses.

However, this pandemic had not resulted in any regime changes of a global scale, nor had it affected the overall development process of mankind.

Objectively, it had even allowed the survivors to have more natural resources.

The virus was finally defeated after countries all over the world joined forces to fight against the virus.

Within the population of people infected by the virus, a very small number of individuals luckily survived and produced antibodies.

Initially, they were considered to be extremely valuable, with precious data for the fight against the virus. However, after the successful development and distribution of vaccines, the status of this special group of people carrying antibodies became particularly embarrassing.

Obviously, they couldn’t be allowed to mix with ordinary people. Under the terrorizing effect of the pandemic, just the mere mention of them might have scared the survivors of the disaster.

A group of people even suggested euthanasia, but there were also objections raised against this approach out of humanitarianism.

The result of the final negotiation was that these people would be collectively taken to a special area and locked up, where after they would build a high, electrically charged wall, and be isolated from the rest of the world.

This area was numbered 3197 and had been invisible in the world map ever since its establishment.

Later, it became a hiding place for some desperate people who had no way out.

Initially, there had been about 30 antigen carriers placed there. There were regular federal food supplies every three months and there were enough resources for everyone.

The prerequisite being that there were no “outsiders”.

All the people who fled inside were invariably vicious people, making 3197 a complete place of chaos.

Li Xin was one of the children born within District 3197, whose parents were unknown. At the age of six, she was adopted by a woman surnamed Du.

In fact, these newborn children were no longer strictly infectious carriers, but it was obviously impossible for someone to take them away.

This Madam Du had a husband and a son and had a very influential family. The antigen carriers were not euthanized in the end, largely due to the efforts of such families.

However, no matter how powerful you were, you would never be able to compete with the whole world. So, Madam Du entered 3197 without any mishap. Merely that she had family members outside sparing no effort for her, so her life inside was better than other people’s. For example, she had a separate house and supplies, and there were even two bodyguards in the beginning.

Although the two bodyguards died of the virus shortly after they came in.

Madam Du had passed away at the end of October 2009. On her deathbed, she had told Li Xin that if she could escape, she must go and find her son.

She couldn’t even remember the names of her son and husband due to her aging and illness, so she gave Li Xin a necklace with a picture of her baby son sitting on her husband’s shoulder.

This picture had been badly worn and blurred over the years.

In the novel that the mysterious man had shown to Li Xin in her last life, the male lead Lu Zigui was framed for killing his enemy’s child and fled to district 3197.’

At that time, he had been seriously injured and had just stepped into Madam Du’s backyard. Initially, he had intended to kill the people and steal their supplies, however, he had inadvertently stumbled upon this scene. He temporarily pretended to be “Madam Du’s son”, and naturally, moved in and took over Madam Du’s house and supplies as his own.

And when Li Xin was 17 years old, she took on the important role of the protagonist’s harem member as the “pure loli childhood sweetheart and faithful and devoted little follower” character, which greatly satisfied the majority of the readers who preferred the “cultivation system” (1)

In the 30th year of the newly implemented era, the federal government released the first holographic game “Miracle”. Moreover, they vigorously promoted the game and strangely attached great importance to the game, so much so that they put forward many excessive policies. For example, they gave a preferential discount to those citizens who had Federal health IDs in regard to purchasing a Miracle sensor for the first time and would be purchased automatically unless it is canceled by the citizen. Furthermore, there was a special positioning function to provide a delivery facility line, which could be said to be a specialized delivery system that provided its service whenever, wherever, and, however.

Madam Du might possibly have been the only person in District 3197 with a health ID, due to her family outside.

In the last life, this precious holographic sensor was used as the ticket for the male lead to becoming a powerful man. Obviously, he would not have such good luck in this life.

The first thing that Li Xin did when she came back was to take Madam Du’s ID card and necklace, before silently leaving in the night and moving to an uninhabited region where she built herself a shabby little house as she patiently waited for the arrival of “Miracle”.

She wasn’t really incapable of dealing with a wounded man, but she merely felt that the fewer complications there were, the better. Presently, she only had one important objective, which was to accomplish Auntie Du’s dying wish and find her son, who was also Li Xin’s brother in name. Nothing else was of importance.

Moreover, as the “protagonist”, Lu Zigui was a variable character, so it would obviously not be sensible to hastily come into contact with him.

Author’s Note

-I was asked to explain the timeline.

Lu Zigui originally planned to rob Madam Du and happened to see her dying. He had a brainwave and felt that there was another way to go about things, so he went back and observed the situation in secret before coming back and claiming to be her son. There was a short space of time in between both incidents. He was injured all over when he had run away to District 3197 and felt he should observe the situation before rushing in and claiming himself to be her relative.

Li Xin left the night after her foster mother was buried. That is to say after Lu Zhigui came back to carry out his plan, there was no one left so he had no choice but to go back.

There is a time gap in the middle.

-It isn’t right to treat people in such a manner. Advise the readers to read the novel and keep your thoughts to yourself.

-This refers to a kind of game where you cultivate the main character to develop according to your tastes.

TL Note

I would just like to mention that the author started this story in late 2018 and finished it around mid-2019 before the pandemic. :)))
