Chapter 38 [Bonus ] CH 36: I AM TOO OLD FOR THIS

While Adam was deciding whether or not he should learn the [Eyes of Truth] or not, the gears of fate were turning in their own unexpected ways.

In the LAPD, Taeko Kirishima was standing on the rooftop of the eponymous police center as he slowly finished his cigarette.

The smoke danced freely in the air as he continued to observe something that did not seem to exist. But he knew that his eyes could never peer through the Veil and this knowledge left him bitter.

He was not allowed to dwell too much on those bitter thought as the atmosphere in the surrounding seemed to suddenly cool down as two people walked up toward him with steady gaits.

The two were fairly atypical young women. At least that was the impression one would get at a glance.

The first one looked to be just out of high school. She was a Japanese girl with a calm look that was devoid of any and all expressions and quite unnatural long silver-grey colored hair. It was really unusually long in the sense that it almost touched her feet.

Even though she had a dangerous air surrounding her, her lack of experience could be easily felt in the eyes of an experienced individual like Kirishima. Just seeing her walk was enough for the man to understand that she was a newbie.

Though the sad truth was a newbie like her would be able to take down a grown adult like him quite easily.

The young girl's body was entirely clad in a deep black colored Kimono that trailed behind her, giving her the air of a princess or a cold Yamato Nadeshiko.

The kimono had a simple yet elegant design with silvery white floral patterns etched on the sleeves. There were slight frills to her dress, around the hem and the shoulders that oddly gave it the look of a maid's uniform. It was an odd contrast of both servitude and royalty that made people wonder just which was her real identity.

Her milky thighs were adorned with white stockings and a tight garter belt. And the parted front beautifully showed off her smooth and plump thighs. finally, a cape was strung on her back as it enclosed around her neck.

The second woman, however, was of a completely different build than the Japanese youth.

A red-eyed woman with reddish brown hair wearing a rather attractive attire modern that would immediately catch the eyes of any passomg male.

She was wearing a crimson red shirt that was almost entirely open at the front and fully displayed her sizeable breasts and equally luscious cleavage. The shirt was so provocative that it barely hid her nipples and sides from view and revealed everything else, even her smooth and flat stomach.

Equally provocative as her upper clothing her greyish brown colored office skirt was as skimpy as it could get and fully displayed her plump thighs and smooth and long legs. Definitely a fatal and alluring combo. She wore a brown colored jacket over her shirt but it was kept open and hung on her arms. She was the very definition of a femme fatale.

Kirishima opened his eyes in astonishment as he recognized the identity of this alluring woman oozing intense sex appeal.

How could he not?

He immediately extinguished his cigarette and approached the two with hasty steps.

"Director, it's a pleasure to meet you."

The red-eyed woman gave a look at Kirishima before smiling thinly,

"I remember this smell. Kirishima, right? You have grown quite a bit over the years. When was the last time?"

Kirishima bowed, "Ten years. I was just a newbie back then. I am honored that you remember me."

"Ten years, heh? Time sure flies fast."

She approached Kirishima and snatched one of his cigarettes before bringing it to her mouth.

Immediately, the silver-haired girl walked up silently and took out a lighter.

Silence stretched for a while between them as the atmosphere grew more and more somber, the Director smoked quietly before she breathed out the smoke and spoke in a nonchalant tone.

"Kirishima. You should understand why I was dispatched, right?"

"The case will be transferred to the LAPPD, I reckon."

The director chuckled, "I really need to punch the one who came with such a simple name."

Kirishima smiled bitterly. LAPPD— Los Angeles Paranormal Police Department.

It was just one letter difference with the LAPD. Clearly, the one who came up with the name couldn't be bothered thinking too much about it.

"So, before I go and receive a bunch of useless paperwork that will tell me absolutely nothing, what do you think of the case."

Kirishima stayed silent for a while, "I believe there is nothing I can say that wasn't already written. The serial killer's identity is still unconfirmed. But from the lack of blood in the victim's post-mortem report, we are sure that it's a vampire. A newborn or one that went crazy."

Kirishima was very careful with his words. One should never make assumptions when it came to the world of the supernatural.

Furthermore, Kirishima was unable to see through the Veil as he was not born with the Gift. As such he did not wish to induce a Director with faulty information and make her waste her valuable time.

"Hmmm… I really hate when vampire creates newborn and don't teach them well."

The current world was not one where supernatural creatures could go rampant as they wished. Laws and orders were created for them to follow and there existed a distinct line that should never be crossed.

This was especially so for the Earthly Supernatural creatures.

"Anything particular to note?"

Kirishima hesitated thinking about what he should say when he found a blade placed right under his throat.

The silver-haired girl was holding a Katana and looking at him impassively,

"Do not lie."

"Stand down."

"Yes."

The sword vanished and all he could see was the girl holding an umbrella. He immediately understood that it was a special sword, a weapon of the supernatural form, and as such, the Veil was distorting his vision.

"She is my student— Makoto. Makoto, apologize for your rude behavior."

The girl bowed deeply, "I, Kaminari Makoto, apologize for my misconduct."

"It's alright. There is no need to bow."

Kirishima's smile was bitter. He was not the newbie of the past. How could he not understand that this was a show of force?

Even if the Director did not ask the girl to act, her action had been accepted by her. Kirishima decided to come clean. Either way, the report was written and they could get the testimony from Detective Smith.

"There is a survivor. We noticed no particular wounds on his body despite him having faced the killer."

The Director's eyebrow rose at that piece of information, seemingly intrigued by this piece of news, "Another newborn?"

"No. He showed no signs of vampirism."

"Hum… Either way, he is suspicious. I will need his information on my desk later on."

Kirishima nodded. There was not much he could do. He just hoped that Adam was not fully implicated and was just a victim. Either way, even if he was a newborn, at least it would be better for it to be discovered now rather than later.

"Very well. This was just a greeting either way. One of the local forces requested a time for them to act. Since I know the old man of that girl, I decided to give her one week."

"Should I prepare a hotel for your stay in the meantime?"

"Hmm…do so. It has been a long time since I visited LA and this cold girl next to me needs to have some fun in her life."

Kirishima stayed on his spot as he watched them leave, the wind brought their voice, as the silver-haired young girl asked,

"Master. Where should we go now?"

The director chuckled and began walking away from her spot, leaving the rooftop and Kirishima behind, "I need to meet my sister. I wonder if she is still alive."

"Sister? You mean…"

"Indeed. I wonder if she regrets her choice from back then."

Kirishima did not know who the director was talking about, but her voice seemed to be almost wistful as she uttered those lines, perhaps reminiscing about a time long lost…

Once he was left alone on the rooftop, he gave a look at the remains of his cigarette and sighed out loud.

He was seriously becoming too old for this shit.
