Chapter 149 Weird Awakening

After that, Ian didn't bother Ethan anymore, but he still looked deep in thought. After all, it was weird for him to show that much interest in any topic that wasn't related to Lyla. The truth is that Ethan probably could count how many years' worth of experience he had thanks to the illusion. Still, it wasn't something that he wanted to recall… he would need to in order to confirm it. He could recall some of the scenarios, but he sealed away the vast majority because he felt that he wouldn't act like a teenager anymore with all that extra luggage.

When Ethan woke up, he checked his status and used his status points all in speed. Things had been a bit troublesome on the previous day because he wasn't speeding enough, but things changed more than a little bit now that his stamina had increased so much.

"Now I won't have to hold myself back that much anymore," Ethan thought and then jumped from his back and then began to stretch his body.

On the bed on the side, Ethan saw Ian sleeping. He wasn't moving a bit, and his breathing could barely be seen since his body was like that… Not to mention, his hands have clapped together like he was a corpse in a coffin. All of a sudden, he opened his eyes, and then he stared at the ceiling for a few seconds before blinking.

"Were you watching me sleeping? Sorry, bro. But my heart belongs to Miss Lyla," Ian said.

"In the small chance that you somehow manage to fool her and go out with you, she will probably run away to another country and change her name once she sees you sleeping," Ethan furrowed his eyebrows.

The city looked pretty quiet, and it was weird that Ethan didn't hear anything during the night. So, he soon looked for his communication device to ask for the updates from his sister. Unfortunately, she wasn't online… so Ethan went to clean himself and change his clothes to have breakfast. Ian did the same, and soon they headed to the lobby, where they met Emily, who looked impatient.

"What is wrong?" Ethan asked.

"It is already nine in the morning… for how long were you planning to sleep?" Emily asked while tapping her feet on the ground. "I wasn't able to contact your sister, so I wanted to ask you if something happened."

"I didn't have the chance to contact her yet," Ethan shrugged.

"... Someone from Isaac's group called my father early in the morning, it doesn't seem like anything happening, and that is what worries me," Emily explained. "I feel like this is the calm before the storm."

Ian was messing with his wristwatch, so the others could tell that he was looking for any information about the other areas. He probably was also talking with his father, but his expression didn't change.

"Everything is the same as before," Ian shrugged. "You are probably thinking too much, and you need to become older to have the right to have something like a woman's intuition."

Emily kicked Ian's leg, and that hurt quite a bit since she had become stronger physically as of late… Regardless, those three left the hotel and soon found that people were a bit busy outside, but they didn't look that nervous or scared. Most of the population had been evacuated already, and those who weren't on the other side of the city. So, only those who stayed behind had experience with fighting.

Those three went to a nearby Cafe and then asked for some pancakes while they were waiting for updates from the people back home. Ethan wondered why one of his sister's coworkers wasn't monitoring them, but maybe they were too busy.

"Ugh… now this, huh," Emily said after she grunted in displeasure.

Ethan looked at Emily's line of sight and then found Dante and Aline approaching. That was quite surprising… their relationship didn't look like they were at odds anymore, thanks to yesterday, but that was quite suspicious. They weren't good enough friends to share a meal.

"Can we sit here?" Dante asked.

"I am not sure, and I feel like those two might fight like cats at any moment if that were to happen," Ethan said.

"I wouldn't fight… unless I am given a reason to," Aline said, and then she smirked. "Besides, the results of a fight would be obvious."

"At least you know your place and also know who would win," Emily said and then shrugged.

"Naturally, the difference between an E rank and an A rank is like the difference between heaven and Earth," Aline also shrugged.

"You must be delusional if you think that the ranking system created by those who don't have mana matters at all," Emily added.

"What did you say?" Aline raised her left eyebrow.

"It is too early in the morning for you too to be this itching to fight each other… how come mages can be so hot-blooded?" Dante asked and then sighed. "Anyway, we didn't come here for that. You should have realized by now that the team working with your sister is offline. I came to inform you all that they are busy since the suspicious individuals appeared all over the world and that unknown returnees tried to invade the database of some countries and stole information about their heroes."
