Chapter 86 Warm Welcome

After a few more minutes, Ivan appeared. There was no point in saying the same things twice, so he just used his own wristwatch, and in the next moment, all of them appeared in what seemed to be a cave.

"Ian, clear the path," Ivan said.

"Yes, sir," Ian said and then headed to the end of the cave with his hands on the back of his head and while he was humming.

That was weird. Could they just appear inside the dungeon in the middle of Europe just like that? Given that Ivan probably had planned that operation for months, he had the authorization of the government of both countries. Still, if that was the case, there was no need for them to appear in the middle of the place just like that.

"It looks like the Greek government is trying their best to keep the monsters from invading Earth, but since they received a massive damage a few months ago, they can't keep things under control," Emily explained when she saw the confused expression on Ethan's face. "The population protested quite a bit when that happened, and they would protest even more if they learned that the government needed the help of other countries to keep things under control. I would bet that operations like this happened a few times in the past, and it finally came to the turn of our country."

It was a pain, but it made sense. Even if they experiment with the true terrors of war, most people won't change their mindset and focus on their survival unless they experiment with that kind of thing for an extended period of time. As far as Ethan could tell, Greece was attacked by monsters for a few days. Those who survived probably knew that some things couldn't be helped and they needed the help of other countries, but those who didn't face the destruction up close wouldn't be that understanding.

"It is all clear," Ian said after he suddenly returned.

Ethan could sense the smell of blood. Still, he couldn't see any signs of battle in Ian's body or clothes. Once more, he proved himself that he was an assassin with crazy skills, Ethan wanted to see in action just once since he saw Ethan fighting more than a few times, but he would never say that out loud.

Ivan led everyone to the end of the dungeon, but even though the scent of blood was in the air, Ethan didn't find a single monster, not even their remaining's. Although Ian cleared the place in just a few seconds, the group had to walk for several minutes to find the end of the dungeon and a spatial distortion.

The spatial distortion seemed like something Ethan had seen many times in the past, like a portal that summoners could use to bring the creatures of all kind of places to the real world. Some of them would come even from imaginary worlds. However, that distortion was too stable, and the flow of mana was at a high-level and wasn't growing weaker. More important than that, Ethan could see inside the distortion a few images of the world they were about to go into. Considering that, it looked like the trip would be fast.

"From here on out, we should proceed carefully," Ivan said. "The portal is stable, but the more people try to pass at the same time, the less stable it gets. We don't want to separate ourselves as soon as we appear there, so divide yourselves into groups of three. Ian, you and those two will go first."

pαndα`noνɐ1--сoМ "Yes, sir," Ian said. "Come on, it is time for some action."

Although Ethan wanted some independence, it didn't look like he wouldn't receive a single order. That was only obvious, so he and Emily approached the portal alongside Ian.

"The fall is kind of high, so prepare yourselves," Ian said. "Let's go, 3, 2, 1… now!"

After hearing that, those three entered the portal, and just like that, they began to fall. It was weird. They were like one thousand meters in height, and on their sides, they could see several mountains, but below them, they only found a crater… a mountain was supposed to be there as well.

"You see, when the hero failed to save the world, the whole mountain, which was used as an altar to summon him, was destroyed by the portal," Ian explained while they were falling. "That is why the other side of the portal is in midair. Anyway, there are some monsters below us, so let's eliminate them before the others come. I also need to assist them."

There are a lot of trees in the valleys between the mountain, a perfect place for a decent number of monsters to hide. Despite that, Ethan could sense that those trees weren't normal trees. They had too much mana, and they were also emanating killing intent. It was another type of monster Ethan had never seen before. Still, he could imagine what it was considering his nerd knowledge. Those were treants.

Before they could even land, the monsters tried to pierce them with leaves that were razor-sharp. Ethan summoned his new sword, and with a single swing, he blocked all those who tried to hit him. As for Emily, she stopped them all with her Ice Shield. Ethan couldn't quite tell what Ian did, but the leaves passed by him without even scratching his clothes. Regardless, it wasn't time to worry about him, the number of enemies below them reached the hundreds, so they had to be exterminated as fast as possible.

As someone would expect from Emily, she used fire. Dozens of fireballs appeared and were shot simultaneously toward the monsters. Since she focused on hitting as many as possible, the power of her attacks didn't kill them instantly but stopped them.

Ethan didn't even try to soften his landing. He used gravity to increase the power of his attack and, with a single swing, split one of the treants from head to toe. His attack softened his landing a little bit, but he still broke a few of his fingers. Without caring about them, Ethan charged toward the next monster.
