Chapter 67 Head On

After a while, Ethan confirmed what he had thought early. Those memories were of his first battle, his first battle where he had been the sole survivor. Even though Ethan at that time wasn't that experience and had yet to develop his iron will, he fought and continued to fight while chasing the gremlins for numerous hours. Until it reached a moment where he couldn't see anyone following him by behind.

Ethan blamed himself for being so pathetic that he couldn't even protect those who decided to fight alongside him. What a pathetic excuse of a hero… Still, he quickly came to the terms with those deaths. He didn't have time to mourn them and he, and he had to exterminate all of the gremlins. That had been his mission since the very moment.

Slaying them one by one would take too much time, but Ethan couldn't do anything else but chase them. He could only hope that the monsters would lead him to their master. Still, he hoped he betrayed him, and Ethan saw himself surrounded by the gremlins, and behind him, there was a cliff. Something was off. He could tell since he should have noticed that trap a long time ago. However, it was too late to think about that. The gremlins began their counterattack.

At first, the gremlins tried to burn Ethan alive. However, after enduring so many of those same attacks, Ethan's Fire and Heat Resistance had leveled up quite a lot, to the point where Ethan could withstand the power of a massive fire wave for a few seconds. That was more than enough… The gremlins smirked and began to laugh devilish when Ethan disappeared amidst the flames. Still, the laughs stopped when suddenly a piece of iron left the flames and cut down several of them. Ethan appeared covered in burn marks from head to toe. Even some of his hair still was on fire, but that didn't stop him.

Once the gremlins' formation broke up, the winner of the battle had already been decided. Even though those creatures were cruel little devils, they couldn't just attack while risking the lives of their friends. Not even the lich who was controlling them could change that. So, in the end, saw himself standing above a pile of gremlin's corpses. In the distance, he saw a dark point in the sky… which was the enemy Ethan had been looking for: the lich. However, in his current state, Ethan couldn't face the monster. For some reason, the creature didn't try to attack him either. That day, the lich only came to collect intel about the summoned hero.

When Ethan opened his eyes, he was back at home. Sometimes, in the middle of the crazy dream, he thought that his return was actually the dream, and he still was stuck in that world. Although waking up made him feel relieved, it wasn't enough to get rid of that bad mood. Ethan sat on his bed and then drank a glass of water since his throat was dry. Those were really some bad memories if they could affect him that much… Although it seemed like a waste of time, Ethan had to check his status.

"Shit…" Ethan began to massage his eyebrows.

His mood worsened, began his status really changed thanks to the dream. He really obtained experience and coins while Fire and Heat Resistance leveled up. It was obvious that those dreams were connected to his power as an Omni Hero. So those dreams will only get intense and cause him more problems in the future.

"Screw it," Ethan sighed and then got up from his bed. "I won't let those shit memories ruin my future."

Ethan already had experienced more than a lifetime's worth of misery and suffering back on that planet. Whoever or whichever was causing those nightmares, it wouldn't succeed in making him feel depressed, not anymore. As always, Ethan will fight ahead with those who stand in their way, be they nightmares or supernatural beings of the beyond.

Ethan had to choose the new courses he was going to attend to, so after having breakfast with his family, he headed to the school and then began to look for Lyla while he was reading the papers, she gave him the other day.

"No matter which physical courses I take, I will bet that passing their tests will be a piece of cake," Ethan said while checking his options once more. "Still, given that I will have to waste some hours until I learn everything, I should make good of my time and enroll in the courses that might help me in the long run."

Changing his fighting style at that point in time will be more harmful than anything. Still, despite that, Ethan decided to enroll in the archery class. All in order to level up his Eagle Eyes as much as possible and perhaps learn some other skills. As for the magic courses, Ethan already knew which one to take: alchemy.
