Chapter 163 163 – The Cruel Fate

"Even as demons, we have a line we cannot cross," I explained. "It was fate that Adrian would die in the past. We don't know the consequences if we change that. As a servant of God, you should know that we can't play around with fate."

Velvet stretched out her hand, about to reach that man, but I held her body.

"Noooo!!!" The prophet's cries grew louder. She tried to escape, but her power was far behind me. "We can still save him!!!"

"He is a person who is quite influential in your life, and you are a figure who has a big influence in this world. I'm sure if his fate changes, then the changes in this world are also big. And again, we don't know the consequences of those changes."

Even when stranded five hundred years ago, I made sure nothing significant had changed. When destroying the elf nation, I already know that country will disappear from history.

And from the information I gather, Adrian is really dead. His body is in the grave. If only the Adrian of the past disappeared without a trace, I might consider not returning him to his own time.

Besides that, if Adrian is still in this time period, he and Velvet may have a relationship. In fact, the rumor that Velvet loves this man is well-known to many people, especially in the government.

No. It can't be allowed.

And killing Adrian wasn't an option either. I don't want Velvet to hate me.

Lexi, already holding a potion bottle, could only stand and cry. It seems that this incident has had a tremendous impact on her too.

Ayre took the bottle gently.

"Just let me do it." The shapeshifter general patted the doctor on the shoulder, then crouched beside Adrian and said to the man. "Drink this, and you won't feel any pain."

That man accepted the vial filled with the dark brown liquid.

"Guys, come down here and bring some undead." I made a long-distance call to my subordinates above.

Velvet's screams continued to fill the room, and I still held her body. That woman hit my body many times, even though it didn't affect me in the slightest.

Adrian looked at the prophet, then took a deep breath. "I don't have a choice, huh?"

He opened the lid of the bottle and gulped down the contents. Velvet instantly froze, looking at her best friend with tears still dripping.

"It's okay, Velvet." Adrian put the empty bottle on the floor. "If it's my destiny to die, so be it. At the very least, I feel relieved because I told you the truth. Take care of yourself and Candice. Give my regards to her as well."

Velvet shook her head. "No, Adrian…. You can talk to Candice yourself... We still have a chance to save you…."

"I'm sorry, Velvet," I whispered into the prophet's ear.

The room's door opened, and a shapeshifter descended the stairs with several undeads. Those lifeless creatures replaced me to hold the prophet's body.

"What are you doing!?" Adrian tried to get up but immediately fell because of the wounds.

"Take it easy." I started opening the game UI, while Velvet could only lie on her stomach while sobbing. "If we were going to do something bad to Velvet, we would have done it long ago."

Ayre repeated the ritual, conjuring a magic circle of yellow light, sticking the large Mythril needle into the floor, and sprinkling giganpoppy extract.

"We can start anytime, my lord," Ayre muttered without looking at me.

This is weird. I feel much calmer than before, even though what I'm going to sacrifice is one of my most crucial parts. Perhaps it happened because I was about to get something I deserved.

I looked at Velvet and smiled at her. The prophet just looked back at me without saying a word.

"C-could we not do this, my lord." Lexi's tears flowed more and more. "Why must you sacrifice your wings to return this human to his time? This really doesn't make sense."

"No, we have to do this." I took off my top shirt, turned my back to the magic circle, and simultaneously faced Velvet. I widen my smile. "I've read about a world that was destroyed because someone messed with the past. I don't want that to happen. Why should I rule a ruined world?"

Well, I just told her about a sci-fi film I saw. I don't even understand why I'm suddenly talking about that movie.

My gaze fell on the [Wings] button that was already highlighted. After taking a deep breath, I pressed the button. A warning popped up, and of course, I pressed [Yes].

"Ugh…." I bent over because my back suddenly felt immeasurable pain. All of my muscles tensed, and I had difficulty breathing.

I felt like an invisible force was tugging at my wings.

"Arrrgggghhh!!!" The pain was getting crazier and forced me to fall to my knees. I can also feel the wet blood starting to fill my back.

And finally, there was a soft thud. It seems both of my wings have fallen to the floor. Lexi rushed over to me and checked my back.

Velvet looked at me with her mouth agape again, and I gave her another smile.

"I love this world too much, so I will do anything to protect it. I will erase everything that can destroy this world, no matter how small it is." I spoke while panting. "That may sound strange to you. After all, this happened because I just wanted to convey my point to you. But that's how it is. This is who I am."

This world gave me a purpose, as well as many other things. Without this world, I would not have the will to live.

Ayre started to chant, and the light from the magic circle grew brighter. I purposely did not check my wings. Those things have become my past.

"So." I stretched my hand to her, enduring the pain that still tortured my back. "After everything I've shown you, do you still doubt me, oh great prophet?"
