99 Deformed Wings

Even if he didn’t know what the scream that the bat-like humanoid demon just made meant, only fools would understand it as other than the humanoid demon exposing him hiding on top of a tree branch.

So without further ado, Blake quickly kicked his feet off of the tree branch and launched himself in a predetermined direction that he had chosen as his escape path.

Blake’s response was lightning fast as he had already planned to retreat beforehand instead of doing anything else.

However, it seemed like Blake wasn’t the only side that was prepared to respond to certain situations as the moment the bat-like humanoid demon released the scream, 4 other humanoid demons from the group opened up their wings and started making their way toward the direction that the bat-like humanoid demon had pointed.

Similar to the skeletal wing demon that Blake had defeated before, these 4 humanoid demons that had just spread their wings to the side also had wings that were seemingly unable to carry them to the sky.

One had significantly smaller wings in contrast with its body, one only had one wing instead of a pair, and the other two also had their own deformities that made it so that people would think that they were unable to fly despite having wings.

However, just like the skeletal wing demon that didn’t use its wings to fly, but rather to lighten its body and move fast, the four humanoid demons did the exact same thing with their wings and ran nether through them to make their bodies lighter before taking an explosive step forward towards Blake’s direction.

A distance of more than 100 meters was traversed in a few seconds as their bodies almost looked as if they were flying.

They quickly went past the bat-like humanoid demon and went straight into the forest to catch the creature that the bat-like demon had detected.

.....

Blake had made his escape path complicated enough that only bird-type demonic beasts would be able to easily spot him moving left and right in the forest and follow him from above.

And the four humanoid demons with the wings would definitely lose track of him as even though they had the speed needed to catch up to Blake, they didn’t know where he had gone in just the few seconds it took them to Blake’s last known location.

And Blake would have gotten away from the humanoid demons without having any direct confrontation with them.

That would be the perfect case for Blake who had thought long about his escape plan and path.

Unfortunately for Blake, the bat-like demon also followed behind those four humanoid demons.

Right after the four humanoid demons arrived and found nothing on the place pointed by the bat-like humanoid demon, it had already taken another breath and released another high-frequency scream that was inaudible to others.

But the scream that the bat-like humanoid demons released was more than just audible for it, as it could use echolocation to track creatures, even a running one.

Hence the moment the voice wave returned to itself, the bat-like humanoid demon quickly pointed in the new direction where it had located Blake and instructed the four humanoid demons with a certain scream that they had agreed upon before to instruct them.

The four demons also trusted the bat-like humanoid demon’s instruction completely as they didn’t spend more than a second to quickly went in the direction that the bat-like humanoid demon had told them, resulting in them finally catching a glimpse of a humanoid demon that was jet-black in color, running in a certain curvy pattern amongst the trees.

Blake didn’t have eyes on the back of his head, but he had a pair of ears that function well enough to be able to hear the loud sounds the four humanoid demons made when they stopped running while carrying so much momentum.

“ROBUS! WE’RE GETTING OUT OF HERE!!” Blake quickly shouted as hard as he could.

Robus, who was waiting for Blake very patiently even though he was bored out of his mind for the past hour, was suddenly jolted awake out of his boredom as he heard Blake’s voice that filled to the brim with urgentness.

Just feeling the urgentness in Blake’s voice, Robus wanted to follow the connection that he had with the small humanoid demon and follow after him just in case he was in danger.

But remembering what the voice had actually meant behind the urgentness, Robus held back the urge to run after Blake and decided to run in the opposite direction of where he heard Blake’s voice.

And Robus’ decision turned out to be a correct one since just after his first jump, Robus already felt Blake was moving towards his direction at a great speed.

Blake was still unable to use the method of the skeletal wing demon to completely make his body move dozens of meters in just a second.

But Blake had practiced a little in between his spell creation, resulting in him being able to use the method at a split-second duration where he would get a significant boost every now and then and boost his speed exponentially.

Feeling Blake was near him, Robus decided to slow down his speed slightly and wait after Blake had really caught up to him before continuing to take another jump.

Blake had included picking up Robus in his escape route as he didn’t want Robus to be the one who was trapped by the humanoid demons as it would be more stressful to him to get Robus out of the encirclement compared to saving himself.

And now that he saw Robus running along with him, Blake could finally breathe a little before looking at his back to see whether there were any chasers following close on their tails.

Cursing his luck, Blake finally saw the four humanoid demons that were making loud noises behind him from the very first time he started making his escape.

Blake knew that if they were able to somehow follow him despite his unnecessarily and overly complicated escape route, then he wouldn’t be outrunning them anytime soon.

So then Blake decided.

“Run back home first, I will catch up to you later once I am finished with them.” He spoke to his huge gorilla friend before his fingers on both hands started drawing runes that he held from activating.
