Chapter 85: Humanoid Demon Souls (1)

Different from other souls that only gave Blake their taste when Blake had actually swallowed them, the brownish demon’s soul already gave Blake a taste when it touched his tongue.

And Blake didn’t expect that the taste would be an imaginably sweet flavor that tastes like his favorite cookies and cream ice cream.

However, different from those ice creams that felt sweet yet there was this certain heavy, thick feeling that could make you grow sick of them after eating a certain amount, the brownish demon’s soul didn’t have that.

As if breathing into sweet-tasting air, there’s nothing sort of heavy or sickening feeling that appeared after tasting the sweetness that the soul had.

With that kind of flavor spreading in his mouth, it was not strange that Blake just kept the soul in his mouth for 10 whole seconds before he finally decided to swallow it.

Blake finally decided to swallow the soul not because the sweet taste had diminished or he had grown tired of the taste, but rather, he wondered whether the soul would give him a taste of something that he had never tasted if he swallowed it.

And expectedly, it did give Blake something that he never had before.

.....

When the soul was in his mouth and Blake tasted a sweetness that he very much enjoyed, now that he had finally swallowed it into his body, the soul also gave the same savory taste that Blake usually had when eating other souls.

But other than the fact that the savory taste was better than the ones that he had before, including the wolf’s soul that had given him 8 souls, the soul didn’t only have the savory taste, the sweetness that he felt before was also spread from the core of his body.

The combination of the most savory soul that he had ever eaten added with the sweetness that didn’t make you sick, the taste that Blake was currently feeling was pure bliss that spread all over his every being.

Rather than just sending shivers down his spine due to how delicious the taste was, Blake’s body just decided to completely stop working as his head went blank and his whole body froze in place.

Just like the first time he had ever tasted a tasty soul, what Blake currently felt was similar to that time, yet it was intensified by at least 5 times.

It was like he was introduced to a completely new world of flavors and tastes that he didn’t know existed before.

The taste lingered in his whole body for about 15 seconds and that was also the time that Blake spent staring into the empty space in front of him and just standing still without even moving his toes.

And when the taste of the soul had finally gone out of his system, Blake was finally able to shake himself to wake up from his stupor.

However, that didn’t mean that Blake was able to completely shake off the feeling that he had just tasted in his body.

Just from thinking back at it, Blake got the same shivers that he got when eating a soul that was worth 7 souls.

It was simply magical if he were to put his earlier feelings into words.

Blake then kept his eyes on the empty air above the brownish demon and squinted his eyes, seemingly trying to find any possible missing bits from the brownish demon’s soul that he could eat.

But of course, that wasn’t how souls work and Blake didn’t find any.

So it took him another 10 whole seconds of staring into empty air to re-accept that already known fact that he had learned from his earlier experiences before he finally released a huge sigh as a sign of his acceptance.

But then Blake suddenly remembered something that he almost forgot because of the brownish demon’s soul.

“There are still 4 of them!” Blake shouted before he started running in the direction where he killed the four other humanoid demons quickly to chase after the brownish demon earlier.

Seeing that his little friend had gone off without saying anything, Robus just stared with a questioning gaze at his friend that he still didn’t understand 100% before he decided to quickly follow in Blake’s direction.

But of course, unlike his little friend that literally jumped around and ran, Robus just took comfortable steps with his 4 limbs and just followed the connection that he had with the little energetic humanoid demon.

On the other hand, Blake, who was running with almost all of his might because he was excited at the prospect of possibly eating more humanoid demon souls that might be as tasty as the brownish demon’s soul, finally cooled himself down a little as he started running and moving his body.

He then realized that he had eaten the soul of possibly the strongest of the five humanoid demons while Robus hadn’t eaten any souls yet despite their efforts being much or less 50-50 in defeating the group.

So when Blake arrived at the scene where the myriad of darkness tendrils spell had done its job and had the four humanoid demons stabbed full of holes and their souls floating above them, Blake just stood there without doing anything after casting the spell to disassemble the darkness tendrils.

Blake decided to wait for Robus and tell him what he wanted to do first before doing it.

So when Robus finally arrived 5 minutes later, Blake quickly told Robus about what he wanted to do.

“Robus, can I please try a few of their souls first? I really wanted to know whether humanoid demon souls are different from the usual souls that we ate.”

“I promise that I will help you get tasty souls later!”

Hearing Blake’s plea, Robus tilted his head for a few seconds before giving Blake the usual nod of affirmation.

Unlike Blake, Robus didn’t really care about finding the difference between the different souls that he would eat.

He just followed his instincts to eat souls to get stronger.

And although he liked eating tastier souls, that was only because he learned through his experience that even after he ate many tasteless souls, his strength didn’t go up.

And compared to when he ate tastier souls, he would feel his strength grow after only eating a certain number of them.

The reason why Robus only eats tasty souls was because of that.

Different from his only friend that actually cared for his palette. Albeit Blake still ate those tasteless souls because he knew that those tasteless souls still add up to the number of souls he needed to level up.

And if Robus also had those numbers displayed on him, he would also eat tasteless souls as long as he knew that his strength was progressing.

So when Blake told him that he would help him find tasty souls for him to eat later in exchange for the humanoid demon souls, Robus quickly accepted the idea as he didn’t lose out on anything.

With Robus giving his affirmation, Blake quickly nodded his head and quickly made his way onto the insect wing demon’s corpse as he thought that the flying demon would also be decently strong to be able to fly.

Blake didn’t waste too much time staring at the insect wing demon’s soul before he quickly snatched it and put it into his mouth.
