Chapter 35 – Esophagus 7

The two went back to the kitchen and rummaged around but they didn’t find any food. There were dishes, knives, forks and other tableware in the cabinet but it had been covered with dust and even spider webs had formed.

There was only one bag of milk powder which is probably enough for the baby to eat for five or six days.

“Don’t the NPCs here need to eat?” Lian Qiao was so hungry that he was irritated, and paced around in the kitchen like a headless fly. “How can this be? We are all starving… This game experience is too bad, I want to complain!”

Xu RenDong felt dizzy looking at him and pushed the kettle in front of him: “Drink some water to fill your stomach. Maybe the nun will bring us something to eat in a while.”

“I see nothing. “Lian Qiao sat down with a sigh, holding up a cup of water to drink, “You can tell at first glance that that witch is not a real nun. Didn’t she say that there are cannibal monsters here? Do you think she treats us as sacrifices? I wonder if we are a sacrifice to some evil god. After all, the instance prompt was ‘esophagus’…” The more he thought about it, the more creepy he felt it was and shivered.

Lian Qiao guessed right, the monsters in this instance indeed ate people. Xu RenDong nodded but just as he was about to speak, he suddenly saw the old nun standing outside the door and staring straight at them with her muddy eyes. Xu RenDong was startled, and whispered: “Lian Qiao.”

“Huh? What’s the matter?” Lian Qiao looked back when he saw that his face was not so good, he was also shocked.

“What are you doing here?” The old nun walked into the kitchen, her skinny body like a piece of dead wood. They could smell the musty smell on her as she approached. She looked at the two with an unpleasant look, and smiled gloomily, “Want to steal something to eat?”

“Just drinking water.” Xu RenDong answered neither humble nor overbearing. He picked up the baby and looked at the old nun coldly, “What should we do today?”

“As usual, we will attend class in the morning and do handicrafts in the afternoon. “Well, don’t dawdle here. Go and call other little bastards, I’m going to give you your lessons.”

“Lessons straight away?” Lian Qiao asked in surprise, “What about breakfast?”

“You uncultivated bugs still want to eat breakfast?” The old nun glared at him, and suddenly pulled out a pointer from behind, “It seems that I have to teach you well what the rules are here!”

The pointer was just ordinary sized but in the eyes of three or five-year-old children, it looked extraordinarily long and thick. Lian Qiao’s face was unconvinced and he was about to talk back. Xu RenDong hurriedly pulled him and whispered: “Don’t talk nonsense with her, let’s go.”

Lian Qiao picked up the baby and followed him reluctantly to leave.

While going up the stairs, Lian Qiao was still muttering: “What kind of trash NPC is that, it is a personal attack… if you don’t give something to eat, you’re scum!”

Xu RenDong helplessly: “You have time to be angry with the NPC, why don’t you think where the elevator and the button could be?”

“Big brother, you are right.” Lian Qiao piously accepted the suggestion and then thought about it again, “But the problem of not eating is really serious. With our body shape, it is estimated that we will not last three days… …Could it be that the time limit this time is three days?”

Xu RenDong nodded: “It’s possible.”

Lian Qiao sighed, “It’s over, I have to be hungry for three days…”

Xu RenDong’s expression instantly changed.

—If there is really nothing to eat in this world, doesn’t it mean… he might be hungry for dozens of days?!

That’s not even as good as bread and milk every day!

When he thought of this, Xu RenDong felt more hungry and his stomach tingled faintly.

At the instructions of the old nun, the children gathered in the living room. The old nun pulled out a small blackboard from nowhere and started to teach everyone seriously. The children sat on the hard floor and watched the old nun write on the blackboard with chalk and found that the content she taught was limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of numerals from 1-10. They suddenly looked confused.

“Fuck, math?!” The little fat kid exclaimed.

Lian Qiao corrected him painfully: “Strictly speaking, this should be called counting.”

The newcomer in the team asked in a low voice: “We really need to attend classes here? Isn’t this a waste of time, why not hurry up and explore the monastery?”

The little fat kid sighed, “Generally speaking, it is best not to resist NPC casually. After all, anything can happen in the world of ghosts and monsters. Right now she looks like a human but it’s hard to say what she will become if she is irritated.”

An image appeared in front of Xu RenDong’s eyes suddenly of the rabbit turning into the graffiti black rabbit. He couldn’t help but agree.

Although they didn’t dare to disobey the NPC, the kindergarten-level arithmetic class didn’t really interest anyone. What’s more, after entering this world, no one has had a single grain of rice to eat. Not only were they hungry but the ears were also poisoned by the old nun’s grating voice, which was really a torment.

Xu RenDong and Lian Qiao tried their best to stay positive at first, wanting to see if there was some useful information in the nun’s lecture. But the nun talked dryly for more than an hour and she was really only teaching arithmetic. The two of them began to lose their attention gradually and became lethargic.

The only one who took the class seriously was Ye QingLiu. When the nuns announced the dismissal of class and allowed them to move freely, Ye QingLiu said with satisfaction: “This can be regarded as prenatal education, no loss to me.”

After hearing this, everyone felt baffled. Xu RenDong suddenly remembered that Ye QingLiu had said that she happened to be having a C-section when she entered the elevator and his face became a little ugly: “…your child is still in your stomach?”

Ye QingLiu: “Yeah, I was just in the middle of it and everything around me stopped moving. An elevator appeared in the operating room for no apparent reason. So what can I do, I can only enter the elevator with my stomach open.”

Xu RenDong: “…what about your child?”

Ye QingLiu: “I don’t know, I have shrunk into a baby girl so of course my belly disappeared.” She pointed to the baby in Xu RenDong’s arms, “So I thought this was my baby at first but you guys said it was a teammate. Anyway this baby looks ugly so if you say it’s a teammate then it’s a teammate.”

Everyone: “…”

Lian Qiao glanced at the baby’s wrinkled little face then looked up at the tender and soft baby Xu RenDong. It’s not that this baby is particularly ugly, it’s just that our Boss RenDong is too cute.

The deadly part was the comparison!

After some embarrassment, everyone agreed not to delay chatting and to start searching the monastery.

This monastery has only two floors but there are many rooms on each floor. There were living rooms, kitchens, prayer rooms, confinement rooms and so forth on the first floor alone, so they decided to split up to explore. Xu RenDong and Lian Qiao were naturally a team. Ye QingLiu wanted to follow the baby and joined their team.

Surprisingly, Ye QingLiu’s shocking remarks actually helped her establish a bit of reputation in the team. Two newcomer sisters came over and asked to be in the team with them. The reason was that Sister QingLiu was frank and direct. Rather than being with the old players, who hid everything and looked at people with gloomy eyes, they would rather stay with Ye QingLiu who was also a newcomer. Besides, Ye QingLiu’s team also has Boss RenDong and safety is still guaranteed.

The trick of declaring that he is a veteran player is really time-tested. Today’s five-man team still regarded Xu RenDong as their boss. Xu RenDong took everyone to explore carefully but no clue was found. A mass of little things was stuffed into Lian Qiao’s small schoolbag. Xu RenDong had seen Lian Qiao’s use of skipping rope and sandbags to set traps, and it was so powerful that he no longer dared to look down upon these seemingly useless gadgets.

There were a few children’s bedrooms on the second floor where they lived. There was  also the nun’s bedroom, where the nun was sleeping at this time, and they couldn’t get in. Next to the nun’s bedroom was the study room. It seems that no one has come in for a long time. When the door was pushed open, the room was full of flying dust.

The tall bookshelves were full of books. These bookshelves are too big for the children and they could only reach the third rung from the bottom. Fortunately, Lian Qiao found a small bench in the corner of the room. Everyone pushed the bench together to the edge of the bookshelf. They stepped on the small bench and climbed onto the table. They confirmed that there was nothing but dust on the top of the bookshelf, and then they began to read the books on the shelf.

“Fuck, what kind of language is this?” Ye QingLiu turned a few pages and exclaimed.

Everyone looked at the book they had gotten and all showed a surprised look.

“This seems to be Greek?” Xu RenDong and Lian Qiao looked at each other. The latter immediately spread his hands, saying that he couldn’t understand it either.

“How can we read it?” Ye QingLiu asked.

Xu RenDong said: “There may be an instruction manual on this bookshelf. Take a look at each book and try your luck.”

Lian Qiao nodded, “In addition, I was thinking that the basic rules of the game is that it can’t be unsolvable. If this bookshelf contains important information, it is impossible to restrict us with a foreign language. So I guess there may be a special book here. Let’s look for it patiently.”

The three girls listened to him and immediately began to look up carefully. This kind of careful searching takes a lot of time and even though the five of them worked together, it took more than an hour to search through only one shelf of books.

Turning around, Xu RenDong gradually felt an urge to urinate. Obviously, this is the credit of those glasses of water this morning.

Xu RenDong climbed up and down. He was really unable to hold back,so he had to whisper to Lian Qiao: “I’m going to the bathroom.”

Lian Qiao said that he had been holding back for a long time and went with him. The two came to the end of the corridor together where there was a bathroom.

The bathroom was dirty and smelly, and the tiles and walls were so yellow and black that people did not dare to think about what caused these stains. Fishy smelling and turbid water still accumulated on the toilet and bathtub. It really made people reluctant to approach it.

Fortunately, the urinal is still clean and barely usable. However when Xu RenDong walked towards the urinal, he discovered a very serious problem: he could not reach it.

He is in a three-year-old small body and the urinal is almost level with his forehead. How could he pee in it?

“…” Lian Qiao smothered a smile and proposed honestly, “Why don’t I hold you?”

Xu RenDong instantly supplied the terrible picture of Lian Qiao holding him while helping him pee and his face became extremely ugly.

Lian Qiao didn’t dare to take the joke further and quickly changed his words: “Forget it, let’s go back and get a small bench. Otherwise, I won’t be able to reach it either.”

Xu RenDong breathed a sigh of relief: “Okay.”

So the two of them got a stool from the study. Xu RenDong felt a little embarrassed inexplicably. He held the small bench and lowered his head while following Lian Qiao without saying a word.

A three-year-old boy and a five-year-old boy walked side by side and the old wooden floor creaked. Lian Qiao looked back at him, and suddenly smiled with curved eyebrows: “You look so good. You were so cute as a little boy.”

Xu RenDong : “Aren’t you the same?”

“Different . “Lian Qiao made no secret of his eyes and clearly wrote the word “like” in his expression. He looked at Xu RenDong with a smile, and said, “You are so good and soft, who doesn’t want to hug you and pinch you? Why are you so good-looking?”

“…” Xu RenDong’s ears became read at a speed visible to the naked eye.

He turned away and thought calmly: Oh, turns out that Lian Qiao likes children so much.
