Chapter 86 – Cat Dad: “This is Fine.”

Xiaomao had a jump scare. He rushed toward the dark corner and slipped behind a wooden cabinet like a sneaky rat.

Comet followed the movements and pulled the cabinet down. Herbs in the drawers fell out from the drawers and messed the ground. But when the furniture was out of the way, Comet lost sight of Xiaomao.

“There’s an intruder somewhere here! It must be that Cathulhu’s descendant! Find him!”

The maids looked around and helped Comet search for Xiaomao. They threw irrelevant objects and flasks to the side and created light balls to illuminate the room.

While Comet and the maids were looking at the ground, the furball was already hanging on the ceiling like a bat. Xiaomao converted his fur color to match the dirty cement, and nobody had noticed his current location.

Xiaomao held his breath while he crept away from the group. As soon as everybody turned their attention to dark corners, Xiaomao jumped down from the ceiling and hid in a container cart, which Comet prepared to send to his boss.

CRACKLE

Two minutes later, the fire on the first floor caught the oil painting on the ceiling, and the fire reached the second floor.

One of the maids came down to report, “Sir, the fire is spreading. We can’t control it anymore!”

“You idiot! You’re water mages, but you can’t douse the simple fire?! What’s the point of keeping you alive, then?!”

“But sir, it’s the mana fire from our explosive shackle. The fire is eating the mana from gemstones and Yang Marble. Unless we have a Water Sage, or an Archmage, we can’t extinguish the mana fire!”

Xiaomao heard something interesting. He also remembered the terms.

Mana Fire was a type of fire magic, which was derived from a superior spell – Yin Flame. However, instead of relying on Qi like cultivators, the fire consumed mana as fuel. Thus, when mana fire was ignited, it consumed every droplet of mana in the air and its surrounding. And when the fire collected enough mana, it gave birth to flame pixies, and those sprites always attacked anything that contained mana to grow stronger.

Moreover, all sprites were born as level-100 monsters, and they could not be tamed until they evolved into fairies!

Although Xiaomao confirmed that he and these guys were in deep trouble, he continued hiding, not moving an inch.

CRACKLE

Comet’s face was ashen. He stopped bickering with the maids and pushed the container cart, pushing it toward the stairs. He didn’t bother using the makeshift elevator, but he carried the entire cart with one arm.

Coincidentally, it was the cart that Xiaomao was hiding inside. He widened his eyes, looking at the containers’ sizes and calculating the weight. Not including the cart, the containers alone weighed about 800 – 900 pounds, but this guy easily pushed and lifted the entire thing to climb up the stairs.

Comet didn’t wait for the maids. He pushed the cart to the ground floor and rushed out of the mansion without looking back.

The maids also followed Comet and the other bodyguard outside. But as they were running, a flame sprite emerged and floated toward them.

“FLAME SPRITE!”

The maids screamed in panic. They threw everything and ran away from the monster.

The level-100 bodyguard turned around and covered his sword with a blue aura. He swung his weapon at the sprite.

BOOM

As soon as the sword hit, the bodyguard’s body was ignited on fire. He screamed in pain and confusion.

The flame sprite revealed her true body as a small humanoid creature with fairy wings. Her ruby eyes curved up into a sneer before she opened her mouth.

Suddenly, her head grew larger than an entire human’s head. Her face distorted, showing two hundred long fangs and sticky saliva. Her mouth bit off the head of the bodyguard, reducing his HP to zero instantly. The monster took her time, chewing the head and the helmet of the bodyguard.

The maids screamed and ran for their lives. Fortunately, the sprite didn’t pursue. She continued eating the level 100 bodyguard’s mana in glee and slowly grew larger. Her level increased from 100 to 105, then 110.

Nobody, including Xiaomao, noticed how far she grew. They already left the building.

Soon, the orange flame darkened as the gemstones on the pillars and the marble floors provided the flame with more mana. Three more sprites were born.

.

Meanwhile, Shepherd and Magdalene sat in front of a safe box, cracking the codes.

CLICK

It took them 4 minutes to open the safe. When it was opened, Shepherd stored everything in his inventory.

While Shepherd was collecting documents and items, he also grabbed stacks of bank notes. Without checking what they were, he stuffed everything in inventory slots.

DING

<You have obtained Gold Coin Bonds.>

<You have obtained PACT Bonds.>

As Shepherd got everything, he looked out the window. Then, he noticed that the lower floors were on fire.

“…”

<Magdalene tells you not to panic.>

Shepherd nodded. He took a deep breath and pulled out the last chest from the safe box. Again, without inspecting what they were, he shoved them into his inventory.

DING

<You have obtained Spirit Stone Chest.>

The silent fisherman pointed his finger at the window and fired several water bullets, breaking the glasses. Then, he leaped out of the mansion from the third floor and landed on the balcony of the second floor.

As Shepherd was about to use the momentum to leap off the balcony to the front of the mansion, Lucky dashed out to the same balcony with a fire sprite following her. Her HP was reduced to 80%, but she managed to avoid getting burnt alive.

Magdalene got off Shepherd’s shoulders and turned around. She glared at the newborn fire sprite level 100, and a grand magic circle appeared before her.

A water bubble emerged and trapped the fire pixie inside. Her fire was doused, and her HP rapidly decreased.

Shepherd and Lucky didn’t look back. They leaped off the balcony, and Magdalene flew after them.

After they had left, the sprite’s HP dropped to zero. Then, items were ejected from her body, but they flew toward Shepherd, who was the owner of Magdalene.

The flying objects transformed into light and disappeared into Shepherd’s back.

DING

<You have gained 5,000,000 EXP.>

<You are now level 100!>

<You cannot increase your level until you upgrade your character.>

<You have obtained a spellbook, Mana Flame.>

<You have obtained a spellbook, Summon Fire Sprite.>

<You have obtained 10 G1 Fire Crystals.>

<You have obtained 5 G2 Fire Crystals.>

<You have obtained a spirit stone.>

Shepherd raised his brows as the game messages surprised him. He looked back at Magdalene in confusion, but the fairy only gave him a thumbs up.

“…”

The fisherman nodded. He pulled out the newly acquired spellbooks and fire crystals. Then, he used them for himself. All items vanished from his hands.

Lucky glanced at Shepherd.

“Shouldn’t you give them to our master?”

<Magdalene says those items belong to them since she killed the monster herself.>

“Master will be very angry if he knows it.”

Magdalene smirked and tossed a small bag at Lucky. She caught it.

<You have received a pouch of 100g fairy dust.>

<Magdalene tells Lucky to give it to Xiaomao as compensation. It’s an ingredient of an elixir.>

“… If I remember correctly, isn’t fairy dust simply your poop?”

Magdalene burst into laughter while Shepherd facepalmed.
