Chapter 1: Embarrassing Encounter (2)

She could only use this tablet to watch a movie now. Thinking that she drew the pattern of the lock.

She knew the password of the pattern lock. Also when Han Chuan used it, he did not deliberately keep it from her.

The iPad interface for work only had a few office software, the original wallpapers also weren’t changed, and there were no entertainment apps or games.

Ye Yuqing was too lazy to download the app, so she opened the browser, ready to use the web version to watch the show.

She had just logged into the video website when suddenly a message box popped up at the top of the screen

It was a new email notification.

Ye Yuqing’s fingers accidentally poked the notification, she was just about to quit but suddenly paused her action.

It was a check-in receipt email from a hotel.

“Dear Mr. Han Chuan, we sincerely welcome you to stay at Puyue Hotel —”

She recognized every word, but when they were put together, Ye Yuqing seemed to have no understanding.

Her thought process crashed instantly. Did Han Chuan not go to Beijing for business? How come he had checked out at Puyue Hotel at this hour?

Was his business trip canceled?

But why didn’t he tell her that when they talked over the phone five minutes ago?

Since he is in the city, why did Han Chuan go to a hotel room instead of going home?

Ye Yuqing had a lot of question marks in her head, and her breathing slowed down.

She forced herself not to make any wild guesses of what an email could represent. It could be that a room was reserved by a friend of Han Chuan with his credentials under his name, or it may also be a room reserved for entertaining company clients.

She mustn’t judge him rashly without knowing the details.

Ye Yuqing was no longer in the mood to eat, she changed her clothes and went out of the door.  She had to go to see everything for herself to feel at ease.

Her luck was good considering that the taxi dispatch on the night of Qixi Festival was very busy, she happened to encounter a taxi with the passengers dismounting and got a ride very easily.

When the car drove out, Ye Yuqing realized that in her haste she was still wearing her indoor slippers.

But she didn’t want to go back to change them.

The city at night was like another world, the street view outside the window was swiftly flowing past.

A young couple passing by … A little girl selling roses … Colourful signboards. … The orange light of the overpass section … These minutiae formed the night scene of the city.

Half an hour later, the taxi stopped in front of a hotel lobby.

The bellboy thought she was a check-in guest and came forward to open the door and greeted, “Good evening, Miss.”

Ye Yuqing got off the taxi and expressed her gratitude. Looking at the magnificent lobby of the hotel, she was somewhat at loss.

Such a big hotel, how could she find him?

She was still hesitant, but upon lifting her eyes, she saw a couple walking out from the right corner of the hall. She stepped back and hid behind the pillars in the hotel corridor. As the two people drew nearer, the outlines of their faces became completely clear.

Without a mistake, she recognized those two people.

… The woman who was holding Han Chuan’s arm was Lin Lanyue.

Ye Yuqing’s mind was buzzing again, how could they both be here?

Could it be … they are already on good terms again?

Not necessarily, she denied it again in her heart, after all, they were leaving the hotel rather than going to the hotel together.

Maybe Han Chuan was delayed because of something, so he wasn’t able to get on the plane. It just happened that Lin Lanyue had something to ask him, and thus they arrived here.

After all, they were good friends.

A few minutes later, the man and woman who had left turned back, this time with five or six people.

Ye Yuqing had also seen these people, they were all Han Chuan’s best friends.

Her fingernails were embedded in her palm, as she comforted herself thinking that it might be a gathering of friends.

A group of people talked and laughed, and no one noticed the individual standing behind the pillar.

“Han Chuan, did you dumb your girlfriend just to accompany us to play?”

“How could he accompany you? Isn’t it to accompany this big beauty.”

“That’s right. After all, brother Chuan has loved Lin Lanyue for a long time. There is a saying- Love is not at its fullest if one who lives is unwilling to die for it.”

After those words, their voices became fuzzy and she could no longer hear clearly.

Ye Yuqing only realized that from beginning to end, Han Chuan didn’t speak. He didn’t agree or object. Furthermore, Lin Lanyue was hugging her boyfriend intimately. Her velvet black dress outlined her graceful curves and her crystal earrings reflected the light as she smiled brightly.

This scene kept playing back in her mind.

Ye Yuqing wanted to rush out to argue, but when she saw the group of people who laughed with ridicule, her feet seemed to freeze.

She actually wasn’t the type who was good at quarreling with others. She was afraid her tears would start falling before her words were finished.

Ye Yuqing looked down, she was still wearing indoor slippers on her feet which was incompatible with the atmosphere of a high-class hotel.

Today, because of the festival the hotel was full of couples. This was a public place, and she did not want to be treated as a lunatic.

She could only look on helplessly at the group of people who were talking and laughing while going away. Ye Yuqing had her hand on her chest, she could hardly breathe.

It was the end of August, the weather was hot, but at this moment she felt like she had fallen into an ice cellar.

The coldness drilled up from the soles of her feet and spread to every part of her body. The glass door and the light of the crystal chandelier in the hall became even more painfully dazzling.
