For a newbie, you can’t go wrong with ‘Swordsman’ or ‘Magician’. The majority of players have either of these two jobs. They have access to a great number of arts and their evolution paths are pretty cool, too.

And if you pick Swordsman, your weapon should be ‘the sword, the short sword, or the greatsword’.

They are the weapons to go to use slash-type arts with.

Or rather, Swordsmen can’t use arts without a sword.

So if I become a Swordsman but choose the bow as my weapon, I won’t be able to use arts?!

It sounds like there’s no point in choosing Swordsman if I use any weapons other than the sword…

Each job has its own job skill, or job ability as it’s called now. Swordsmen, for example, have the ability named ‘See-All’ that slightly increases reflexes.

Archer had a job ability called ‘Hawk’s Eye’, which raises eyesight, so many scout-type players choose it as their second job.

Incidentally, there are magic arts that can be activated without weapons, too.

Swordsman has access to a magic art called ‘Zen Meditation’, and if you activate it while you’re in a sitting position, your HP will recover rapidly. (Is it even magic, though?)

Another example is the ‘Stealth Move’ of the all-rounder job ‘Brave Lancer’. It weakens your presence and lets you sneak up on your opponents.

Well, in this game, equipping rare swords requires a corresponding level of Strength.

Say you have two swords that require 100 Strength each, you’ve got to have 200 Strength to dual wield them.

In such cases, most people would opt to just use one powerful sword that required 200 Strength.

Moreover, when you use an art, it will only be effective with one of the swords.

By the way, I haven’t confirmed this, but apparently, Archers can apply an art to multiple arrows.

For example, if you activate an art while nocking two arrows, you can perform two arts attacks with the MP cost of one. There was some discussion about it on the archer thread.

Well, if you try to shoot multiple arrows at once, their attack power will drop and you’ll be really lucky if even one of them so much as graze the target, so it’s almost practically useless lolol

A short walk away from the town square. After buying and having some skewers on the way, I arrived at the colosseum-shaped training ground and decided to invent a new combat style right away.

“For now, I’ll choose three new weapons, ‘the sword, the greatsword, and the spear’. Press, press, press, press aaand done.”

They were all widely popular and easy-to-use weapons.

Including the bow, which I had chosen during the character creation, there were now four types of weapons I could use their specialized arts with.

“Okay, I’ll save my three remaining choices for after I come up with new ideas. …But the remaining weapons are mostly peculiar ones like scissors and playing cards.”

Both of them were unique, but not very practical for combat, so I dismissed them.

Also, shields were apparently also categorized as weapons in this game. Pretty odd, I must say.

In response to my voice, an eerie slime-like dragon, ‘Forbidden Evil Dragon Cthulhu・Replica’—well, an imitation of it—appeared in front of me.

It was the special feature of the training ground that I always used. Here, you could summon any monsters you had defeated as many as you wanted, though they didn’t yield exps.

The practice-use Cthulhu・Replica raised a cry, as though to say, “Cruel, much?!”

Being able to order the monster like this was also a convenient part of the training ground.

“Here I go, Cthulhu! Skill ‘Arms Barrier’!”

I activated my go-to special skill.

Several summoning formations appeared behind me, from which were visible the tips of demonic swords and holy spears.

“Ng———!”

I immediately called out to the Armor Knight possessing my boots and took high-speed steps to avoid the swarm of tentacles!

“Damn, seven explosions aren’t enough to kill him, after all…!”

It was only natural, in fact. Cthulhu・Replica was a top-tier hidden boss monster.

However, if I had been able to carpet-bomb as I did during the event, I could probably have insta-killed him.

I’d been using monster-buffing arts such as ‘Power Burst’ and they were called magic arts.

Ones that used weapons, on the other hand, were called combat arts. I was going to unleash the ‘Light Slash’ art. It had the coolest visual effect.

It released a blade of light from the sword that cut through enemies in a wide range. It was the best art for a hero!

This was a blunder. I’d shouted ‘Light Slash’ too, which meant my MP had gone to waste.

Even though I had told myself to conserve MP since using weapon arts consumed five times more MP with Battle Maker.

“Ah, sorry, Cthulhu. I made a fool of myself in the middle of our fight…!”
