Chapter 15 Past

Ren Ye had bought two tickets for both him and Ren Jia, and also due to him reprimanding Old Yi not to come out and take human form, making him spend his money on an additional and unnecessary ticket.

The airport was filled with domestic visitors from other provinces, mainly helpers were occupied with them; hence having Ren Ye do all the carrying of the luggage and putting them on a stroller.

Jindao was relatively small and sparsely occupied, compared to the density and modernity of Beikang and Fucheng. But the city had its own natural beauty, it is well-known domestically for its abundant resources and rich history; being that it was one of the ancient capitals of China.

Ren Ye sat casually with clasped hands, observing the visitors with limpid eyes. The little girl beside him was holding a piece of paper and a pencil as she furrowed her eyebrows and focused on outlining the drawing.

She slowly lifted her head and her eyes fell onto a fellow toddler in front of her as he was munching on milk candies. The little boy in the front was completely oblivious of her peering eyes and continued to eat his candies.

Instead of asking her Papa to buy her some and unintentionally making him annoyed by her behavior, Ren Jia glanced at the boy and turned her head to glance at her Papa with her pleading glossy eyes; continuing this back and forth a couple of times.

Ren Ye didn't know whether to cry or laugh, he had noticed her odd behavior at first glance but decided to ignore it; hoping she would learn to ask for something.

He coughed lightly and placed his palm onto her head, caressing her gently, "Don't be afraid to ask if you want something."

'Do I look like a monster or something?' He frowned slightly, thinking at the back of his head.

Ren Jia was slightly taken aback but nodded her head with shy eyes, gripping her dress tightly. She was nervous her Papa would refuse her considering the aloof attitude he had held toward others. She was glad her Papa wasn't like this to her

Ren Ye bought the candies from a food stall nearby, helping her rip open the plastic package and giving them to the little girl who was gawking at the sight of it.

She was feeling quite satisfied as she munched on the candies and glanced at him with her sweet smile, "Does Papa want some?"

"No, thank you," He replied frankly with a deadpan expression. Instead of leaving her Papa be, the little girl grabbed a piece and offered it close to his mouth, giggling with mischief.

"Papa should have some! It tastes amazing!"

Ren Ye pursed his lips and forcibly opened them, biting the candy on her finger and munching on them with a calm expression. The couple next to them started to giggle after seeing the interaction between the father and daughter.

"What a good daughter! Why don't we try to have one ourselves?"

Upon hearing what they were saying, Ren Ye almost choked on the candy in his mouth.

"Has Papa ever been on a plane before?" The little girl suddenly asked him after having eaten most of the candies, Ren Ye was concerned the little girl was going to have cavities.

"I have," He muttered gloomily. He had been on a couple of flights abroad in the past when his father was at his peak but that past has long passed.

"What about you?" Ren Ye asked her with great interest.

The little girl shook her head and replied back, "Never."

"Oh," Ren Ye hummed and gave her a half-smile, "Then you're in for a new experience."

<Attention! All Passengers! Flight from Jindao to Beikang! Please board…>

"Come on, let's go," Ren Ye stood up and extended his hand to her, Jia'er took his hand and walked toward the entrance with her Papa's hand in hers.

"Papa! Hug!" She cried out all of a sudden and extended her tiny arms adorably, her eyes beamed with wistfulness and hope; in an unfamiliar place, she'd rather stay in her Papa's arms.

Ren Ye lowered his stance and took her in one of his arms while holding a bag in his other hand, she laid her head on his shoulders as he walked to the entrance.

2 Hours Later,

They landed after 2 hours of napping on the plane the whole time; he was slightly tired from being woken up by the little girl.

The airport in Beikang was completely different than Jindao's, it was more crowded and filled to the brim with thousands of people fighting to get air; some of whom were celebrities and rich citizens.

Many of them showed off excessively as the camera flashes its lights everywhere, causing Ren Jia to hide in her Papa's arms from the deafening beams from their cameras. Ren Ye's features twitched with annoyance and he glared at them with cold eyes.

"People are trying to get through and these people are standing without any consideration for others!"

"Papa…" She muttered helplessly after her eyes were flashed by the lights, Ren Ye covered her eyes with his sleeves and carried her to the front.

After they left the airport, a blue text suddenly appeared in front of him.

'Why do I feel like this system is also trying to convince me to take up a job as a taxi driver?' He rubbed his chin with an interesting expression, noticing the hidden message in the system.

'I mean it is pretty beneficial for a newcomer like you one way or another, isn't it? You wouldn't be scammed like many tourists arriving here…' Old Yi commented with a humph.

Ren Ye felt something in his jeans vibrate with a ding! Sound, he took his phone from his pocket and glanced at the phone, finding it to be a message from his bank account.

A blue notification popped up on his phone screen.

'This will be enough for one month of leasing, I'd say this system is rather frugal at gifting their host,' Ren Ye frowned with slight annoyance, 'It would be nice if they had gifted me more than that…'

Wu Qi had moved there due to his wife's work and they had a daughter around Jia'er's age as well, making it even more enticing for him to accept his help.

'I must say I was a bit jealous of him when he first got married; my brother was in an arranged marriage with a beautiful heiress.'

'No wonder, he didn't mutter a single of objection the moment his father had coerced him to marry her and give him grandchildren,' He couldn't help but think back to his old friend, a bit speechless of his behavior and wanted to laugh out loud.

Old Yi didn't speak for a long while before mumbling quietly with a bit of complexity in his tone, 'Heh? Don't you have a pretty lady waiting for you as well?'

"Papa! Look at all the skyscrapers!" She glanced out the windows as her eyes widened in wonder, pointing at them with her fingers. Ren Ye joined her and both of them looked out the windows of the taxi.

Beikang was an extremely prosperous and highly-developed city, worthy of being China's financial and cultural hub. The city infrastructure was intricately designed by accomplished designers from around the globe, all of their streets were built spaciously and crisscrossed one another, allowing pedestrians to roam the city without having blockages.

They were both driving through the main financial hub of the city, near the airport, and through the high-rising buildings; signifying their growth in economic and technological accomplishments.

This caused Ren Jia to be overwhelmed with excitement and curiosity as she glanced out the windows with a dazed expression, Ren Ye had noticed this and a half-smile was plastered on his face,

"Have you ever seen such buildings before, Jia'er?" He couldn't help but ask the little girl as her face was clouded with amazement.

"No! This is the first time! Jia'er has seen some but not as big as these!"

"Then we can go around and have fun," Ren Ye lowered his eyes slightly, "After all, we will be staying here for quite a long time."

He wasn't quite certain how long he would have to stay here, there were things back in Jindao he hadn't solved; he was bound to the system's orders.

"Will Papa take Jia'er to an amusement park to have fun?" The little girl turned her and stared at him with her doe eyes filled with hope and emotions, Ren Ye was momentarily stunned and didn't speak; he was thinking of their drawing on a Ferris wheel.

"Whatever you want," He could only blurt out a single sentence; it was pretty impossible to refuse this daughter of his.

After the both of them left the airport,

Among the wealthy countrymen and VIPs, a woman with a captivating figure exited an SUV as she was being led to the entrance of the airport by her highly-trained bodyguards.

The woman emitted an icy-cold aura, shrouding her elegant face with haughtiness and displeasure; she had a call from her mother that her grandfather had been found unconscious on his bed and is currently in the ICU room.

Upon seeing the cameras, she was immediately put in a bad mood and gritted her teeth slightly.

"Jing Xue, think twice before you-"

A handsome man in a black formal suit had exited his Mercedes-Benz as he hastily chased her from her company to the airport; hoping she would change her mind about leaving for France all of a sudden.

"Brother Chen, you don't get to force me to make a choice," She dropped her head and spoke quietly, "My grandfather is in a critical condition, and as his beloved grandchild, what face would I have to face my family if I refuse to go simply because of an offer from some brand."

Upon hearing such words coming from her mouth, the young man was certain he wouldn't be able to convince this young lady to return and take up that offer.

Instead of losing his temper, he attempted one last time, "Jing Xue, this is a one in a thousand chance-"

"I don't care," Jing Xue interrupted him without hesitation; once she had made a choice, it was impossible to change her mind.

The handsome man sighed with regret and waved his hand dismissively, "Very well, you can go…"

"I'll help you handle the situation here in China for you."

"Thank you," Jing Xue had bowed her head with gratitude and turned her graceful figure, leaving resolutely; not knowing she had walked on the same path as the man in her dreams.
