Chapter 328 So Much Like Your Father

Why should Lena care about such things? The people who worked in the hospital were in the wrong after all. They'd been part of the reason this whole issue occurred in the first place.

"If they have any issue with what I do, they can come and talk with me about it. I already had a discussion with the director about how to handle things moving forward. He seemed to be a smart enough man to understand what I requested from him." The princess at least hoped he turned out to be as smart as he looked. If not, things would still not end up well for him at the end of the day. Julian simply shook his head at her as he picked up one of the bowls of soup.

"Really, you are so much like your father I sometimes don't know what to do with you." More like all the time. Lena turned out to be so much like the female version of her father that Julian often wondered if she were not the sister he'd always wished he'd been able to grow up with. Eight-teen years apart and different circumstances between them growing up and yet, Lena still turned out just like Zane.

"I would recommend that you don't say that kind of thing around my father. I believe that he would take it as far less of a compliment than I do."

The princess knew well enough that her father didn't want her to turn out like him. Not in the slightest. Fate on the other handheld different plans for her. The connection being that both of them lost their mothers. Lena just suffered the lost at a more fragile age where Zane at least got his mother until near adulthood. Julian's features softened as he looked in the direction of his brother.

"I think that is something that you would actually be wrong about. I think that your father is proud of what you turned out to be. He'd say that like him, you need to learn to soften your edges. Over all though, you turned out to be the kind of person who watches out for those who need it most." Lena became overtaken by the urge to laugh at this comment. Watch out for the people who need it most? Did her uncle understand what exactly he just said after what took place earlier that morning?

Lena pointed a gun at her own fiancé, no way in any world would that be considered 'watching out for the people who needed it most'. Two more seconds and she might've actually shot the other if he didn't watch himself!

"That would be where you're wrong. I'm not the kind of person who is good at watching those who need it most. I pick and choose but there isn't any pattern as to who they are and why." A lie? Maybe she'd have thought so before. After today though, Lena couldn't help but think that it was true.

After all, her softness towards Samuel ended up only extending so far that when something else caught her attention, it overrode anything else.

"Lena, your father often ended up doing the same type of thing growing up. Sometimes the best intentions we have as people turn out badly. That doesn't mean we don't care about the people that we're supposed to be watching out for. It just means we sometimes don't always do the best job of it." Lena didn't respond to what her uncle said. Partly due to feeling as though he tried to make empty excuses for her that would easy to hold onto and partly because her phone chose to ring at that moment in time.

"Lena?" She didn't even think to look at her before she answered but the princess froze the moment that she heard the voice on the other end of the phone. A brief pause followed the lack of response on her end.

"Erm. I will take that to mean that you're still not quite in the mood to talk. I honestly don't know what to say myself. I just kind of felt the need to call you." Lena let out a heavy breath in response to these comments. Stupid Sam. How could he want that after what just look place between the of them.

"I'm the last person that you should be thinking about calling right now after what happened. You should think about talking to your family instead." Lena wanted to end the call before the other could say anything but Samuel wasn't about to let that happen.

"No! I mean. Yes, I do need to call my family and let them know about this. But really, I want to talk to you right now." Lena's hand shook as she fought the urge to pull the phone away from her ear. Eyes narrowed as she bore a hole into the wall that she faced. This wasn't right. Samuel shouldn't have been on the other end of the phone saying those types of things to her.

"I'm not the person that you should want to be talking to right now. I'm telling you that you should be calling your family instead. We can talk another time. Make sure you eat something as well and avoid doing anything reckless with that cousin of yours."

"Wait-!" The princess didn't wait though and ended the call before Samuel could finish speaking. Breathing heavily through her nose, she muted the phone before putting it back into her pocket.

Stupid boy. Could he honestly not understand that she should've been the last person he wanted to talk with after what took place? The anger on his behalf only ended up making her feel worse.

On top of that, she could tell without looking at her uncle what he was thinking by the way that he stared at her tense back.

She did turn out to be so much more like her father than Zane expected and she would want to admit.
