Chapter 731 T.D.O.N.B: On The Trail

Zooming through the city without giving a shit about the red light made the FBI agents behind us turn the sirens on, so they could escort us. We soon arrived at a few flor, tall building, with glass outer wall walls. It was clearly an office complex.

The older guy, quite tall, shaved cleanly, with a ponytail and a stack of papers in his hands was already waiting for us. He was wearing a t-shirt, a leather jacket over it, and dark pants.

- This is everything I have - he communicated as soon as we stepped out of the car, and waved the stack of documents.

- Doesn't matter. Tell me who told you those people were linked to the cartels - I said, getting closer to him.

- Who is this guy? - he asked mister Wu.

- Tell him what he wants to know, and you better not piss him off - he heard in response.

This made him nod immediately.

- I've asked a few people, around the area about this. Police were keeping them around since they saw the whole thing, and I was able to speak a few words with them. I have their addresses - he quickly switched a few papers in his hands and eventually presented me with the one with the proper data.

I took it, then quickly ran my eyes through the text. Finally, gave it to Joseph.

- Anything more? - I asked.

- No - the detective shook his head. - I only was able to speak with them briefly. The police didn't allow more, and they wouldn't really want to talk with them, so...

- I need to speak with those people. Now - I said, interrupting him, and went back to the car.

- thank you - said Joseph, to his employee, and then went after me.

After giving the piece of paper to the driver, we drove off. It took us a moment because we needed to get to a completely different district, but we eventually arrived at a much poorer neighborhood. I noticed groups of kids playing on the streets while being watched by adults, usually older women, who sat in their gardens in old armchairs.

They would knit or sometimes pray on the rosaries, but overall kept an eye on the children. It was a Mexican district, clearly of the fresh immigrants, who were living with their families, to start a new life in the new country.

Our car immediately gathered attention, and word spread. I noticed men popping out here and there, observing us. Some were armed.

We eventually parked and stepped out of the car.

- I need to speak to Ursula Camejo! - I shouted out loud as soon as I could.

? Then I moved towards a single-floor building with green walls, and a dark roof. It had a mosquito net on the door, and next to it was the house number.

A bunch of guys in white wifebeaters, tattooed, blocked my path. I noticed guns behind their belts.

- Who are you, gringo? - asked one, bald with a mustache.

I noticed by how he was moving, that he was gonna get into my face.

- Look fuckers. I'm not in the mood for jokes, so I'll tell it only fucking once. Get the hell out of my way, or bring me Ursula Camejo. Those are the only two options. If you think those petty guns mean anything here, then you will end up with them shoved deeply in your asses - I said, with a surprisingly calm voice, but my blood was boiling.

Some of the essences of the void were slipping through my veins. They had to be becoming partially black, as some of the guys showed a bit of fear showing on their faces.

The baldy pulled the gun from behind his belt, then pointed at me. I grabbed it and squeezed so hard, it came through my fingers red hot from the pressure caused by my grip. He had to let go of the weapon, which I threw on the ground.

I would reap him apart in front of everybody if not for outside intervention.

- I'm here! - I heard a woman's voice.

She came out of the building I was gonna enter after dealing with the guys in white wifebeaters.

- I'm here! - she repeated, and her voice was closer.

I shadow walked past the group, scaring the shit out of a short girl with puffy, wavy black hair. She was busty and had a rather large behind, put in tight jeans. She took a step back with her eyes open wide.

- You saw the kidnapping? - I asked. - They took my family. I need to know everything you know.

Gripped tightly by the fear, shaking, she nodded.

- Calm down. Nobody is getting hurt here if I get to know what I want to know - I said to her. - And you fuckers, who're grabbing your guns right now, please consider that my patience is already gone, so this will end bloody. Bloody for you.

My warning made them stop.

- Y-yes I-I-I'll t-tell you everything - she said.

She had a thick accent. I also noticed a group of kids, ages four up to maybe eight, three of them, popping their heads through the windows of the house behind her.

- Your kids? - I asked.

She turned around, and looked, then gestured towards them to hide. They followed the silent order, but I could still see that they were there.

- N-no - left her mouth, as she turned around to me.

- Don't lie to me - I warned her.

- Y-yes... Please, I'll tell everything, just don't hurt us - she pledged.

- That's now what I meant. You have a family as I do. They took my daughter. Think what you would do if somebody took your sons? Tell me everything, and I will go away - I explained.

She nodded slowly. Then she peeked over my shoulders at the guys still standing there and showed them an angry expression. This made them step back further, almost touching the limo of mister Joseph.

- I'll tell you what I saw - she said, much calmer, but still very nervous.

Fortunately, at least she stopped stuttering.
